Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Champagne!

These buds are dense! Their sticky and they smell like lemony/resinous/"thai" smell. Nothing quite like it.

I've grown this strain before in super soil. Excellent results then, with some purpling even. Fabulous smoke.

This time, I've got fewer leaves, much larger, much more dense buds, and the plants aren't going purple....triches are also clear, so I may let them go awhile.

Looking like 5+ oz per plant. Double my yield in super soil last time I grew this strain.

I'm finding confirmation all the time:

Pure genetics get a boost from High Brix much more than frankenstrains. I've got a Colombian Gold growing.....should be interesting. Anyhow, the Platinum OG turned out good. It's all gone. People said, "some of the Best platinumOG ever." But I thought it was slightly above average. It's a frankenstrain and should probably be grown in a really good hydro setup.

On the other hand, the Lemon Paki, Herijuana and now this Thai.....well, people freak out on it. It's not like other weed, when the high brix kicks in. The effect is different, as is the smell and taste.

Where's shottafire? He's supposed to review my strains.....

Anyways, here are the pics:

The huge swollen thing has been getting plumped up with Energy and is dense and sticky. The green thing has been betting Transplant and Energy alternating.

The latter is something I'm trying after learning a bit more about energy and how plants react to it. Brix is 13-14 taken with less than an hour's light on them. Not my highest readings....but still quite healthy. It's the damn crackpot experiments I'm always running.....

Hi Doc,

When you go from seedling to bigger seedling and so forth what size pots do you use? How many times do you transplant? I was thinking a .3 gallon for seedling, then when its full transplant to 3 gallon then to 7 gallon. they will be airpots.

Thanks!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Man I would love to have a smoke of the "green thing" it sure is pretty. The differences between the 2 are pretty amazing.

If you could see them in person, you'd want both equally. The bulbous thing as sticky like honey.

If you have to sex them, I like to start in 1.5 to 2 gallons. Once sex is determined, transplant once into 7 gallons.

Doc, I cant believe the Champagne. It looked great a few weeks ago. It looks insane now. The yield is really impressive. I am searching for a crazy sativa. I got a couple maybes growing now.

I see you are playing around with different feedings at different times. Varying the energy, transplant and cationic drench. Do you think you have bettered the standard kit? The different feedings are obviously different by the look of the plants. I love it.

To some extent, it's strain dependent......but overall, following the "book" gives the best results still.....with a few exceptions.

Strains that are known for lots of pistilate growth definitely benefit from the Cationic drench. No question. It's a matter of when to use it.....and in many ways we're splitting hairs at this point, but a good example is this Thai strain you see up there. It forms massive, fluffy cotton candy like colas. Lot's of pistils, lots of air, huge wispy buds.

Well, not anymore! The "green thing" is as tight as any indica strain and the huge bublous ones are more dense than a typical Jack Herer.....definitely NOT normal for the strain.

On the other hand, if I grew the Lemon Paki like this, yield would suffer. So it looks like much of this is strain dependent. I'm workin' on it! But I have to be careful because it often costs me a plant or two!

Oh I'm sure you're right and they both do really look amazing (I blew them both up on my gaming pc :yikes:) I really like how you can basically tailor your harvest to what you desire.

That's the idea! In a few months when I feel pretty solid with all the tools I'm using now, I'll try a few other things, like maybe some guano tea. Could very well be a disaster......gotta get the guano tested for potassium and sodium before I try it.

Right now, everything is fishy ferts.

Whatever it is now is working very well, I couldn't be happier with the results I have been having with your kit.

well doc so far so good using the products on plants in highly mineralized coco! if you get a chance to come take a peek i posted pics last night of how they look and what i have done thus far they have been on da brix for 2 weeksish from how they looked before id say they look more serious about themselves, many iffy looking leaves have changed to looking like they are working for the plant rather than just sorta being there, if you would rather i can post em over here maybe some before and afters, i think i will do that in my journal, but in any case i think its interesting how well they responded its like i gave them exactly what they needed, i think im gonna see some big weights soon too:thumb:

Nice! I'm really interested in how this goes down with coco. I'll be checkin' in.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Update:

Some of everything in this picture post. Champagne is featured, as well as some vegging plants like "Adolescent Female Para-Military Organization" cookie, and Tahoe OG.

There are some clones that are 5 days from being cut with roots. I'm spraying stress at 1/2 strength daily....a very light mist.

There are some before and after shots of pruning during veg for clones and plant shape.

There's a great example of an Uncle Ben topping on a Colombian Gold

And finally some lower popcorn bud I took early, washed and hung on Friday. Pics are of untrimmed washed buds, and the same bud trimmed up.

I think that's about it!

the ladies are looking fantastic doc! i love your politically correct re name for gsc, hilarious! so i had to come post this first here, today my refractometer arrived, promptly opened and examined then i read and checked the calibration with distilled water perfect 0, so i had a few hours to wait for lights on, i went about getting a few tests under my belt first up bell peppers i got 12 on one plant and the second a 15 not bad! cayenne 12,blueberries 15 hell yeah! finally its time to go test the girls in coco high brix, i was only sucessful in getting enough juice for a test from 1 plant the big blue dream thats 34 days since the flip, i tested her twice, first test was 25!!! i was like no way! ran to my gf spiffy and said what does this read? she says um 25....is that good? i was like yeah i think so! :yahoo: so i said its got to be a fluke, i pulled another leaf other side lower down, this time it was 23-24 !! i rechecked the calibration ,dead on 0! so what do you make of this? i tried to get some readings from some other plants but i couldnt get the juice out without having them falling apart and getting all over the prisim, i need to find a better method than squeezing them with needlenose pliers! lol im pretty excited at these first tests, :high-five:

Please post a pic of the plant you tested. I'd like to see a 25 brix plant.

Looking good over there Doc. Gotta find out what the Pam is for.....fingers?

When I trim, my scissors get jammed up really bad. The buds are too sticky.....seriously you need 5 pairs of scissors to final-trim a single plant.

Well, after being cleaned off in alcohol, if you spray a light mist of Pam on the scissors, the resin doesn't stick to 'em. You can trim for like 20 minutes before you need to clean the scissors, and you can get them clean with a couple quick scrapes of a razor blade.

Pam is food grade, so no problem if a minute amount gets on the buds from the scissors.

she is 35 days from the flip

Which leaves did you test? From the second pic?

Here's the thing: When testing brix, you need to take healthy leaves from a healthy plant.

Dead leaves that are half dry will have very high brix....due to low moisture content. Motor oil has brix over 100....

You must take healthy, vibrant tissue to get an accurate reading.

The picture you posted second might have a high brix reading.....but the first and third pics don't look quite right.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

i took a leaf from up top first killed me to take it it was one of the highest 2 on the plant, second leaf was a healthy looking one from the middle of the plant close to a bud, no dry leaves they were very juicy fresh leaves or i would not been able to get any juice i was using gloved fingers for the main part of squeezing, i tried using pliers and it made mush i could not get clean juice from, i had just watered with plain water and no sprays or food for at least 24 hrs, last thing was tea&yucca
