Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I did mineralized soil first, and I recommend you skip it, if you want to try Doc's kit. :cheesygrinsmiley:

You end up spending just as much on a bunch of stuff you'll have no use for later. The kit is cheaper and works better. :slide:

That's what I am hoping Doc says as well! Haha I would absolutely love to try Doc's kit, I don't want to overstep my bounds ad try to get involved in something I haven't earned the right to use, but I sure believe I am more than capable of growing High-Brix.

Hey Doc!

I wasn't sure where to post this or whether to send you a P.M. but this thread seemed like the most reasonable place to start. I am interested in getting my feet wet... or should I say "soily?" with High-Brix.

I have been contemplating and have had other experienced growers suggest I start with Mineralized soils before going straight to High-Brix, but as I have found out through research, that would involve me buying all sorts of ingredients and will leave me with extras I don't need. So I am kind of leaning towards your High-Brix kit not only for its proven effectiveness but also the ease of assembly.

What would you recommend for someone in my position?

It's pointless to "start" with mineralized soil. The 6-5-3 (my invention) was an attempt to create a high brix soil, and it failed. Sure, it's an improvement over an organic grow, but compared to actual high brix soil it just isn't any good.

The cost of the kit is less than the cost of all the ingredients to try to make your own, except the kit really works.

PM headed your way.

Ok so mixed up 2 of the bales. I noticed it was easy to mix water in as you put dirt in its cooking container than it was on top then mixing.

Hey Doc! :ciao:

Stumbled on your threads when reading up on "supersoil" recipes, I saw a few threads using your method and I am sold.
I got the October 2014 instructions for using the kit from the forum, I am just wondering how/where to order it? Any info is greatly appreciated thanks in advance!

*I attempted to send this in PM but I don't have the post count yet, apologies!*

hi doc, I have a question about your room controller. I noticed it is in the room with the plants. I take it the led lights don't hurt your dark period. I just bought one and was going to mount it outside my room because of the led display. whatcha think:smokin:

I have no issues with it. Also, I use a fairly bright LED headlamp with white light when I'm working in there during the dark cycle. My plants don't seem to mind.

Huh crazy I thought the white light can confuse them??? I've never tried but don't doubt it coming from you. I have 2 cfl green lights in old light fixtures above my bloom room and use a green led head lamp.

Well in that respect guess I'm guilty as well. My lighted microscope gets used in the dark just never thought about it cause it's so small

Exactly. The tiny amount of photons emitted for a short duration on only a small portion of the plant isn't enough to trigger a "sunrise" event in the plant's physiology. Weak light is the key, and LED headlamps with AAA batteries fit the bill, given sensible use.

Yeah that makes complete sense.

Dutty panty . The seeds I have are from reeferman. From bc canada
F1 hybrid between Vietnamese Black and Highland Nepalese.
Doc loves it. I figured why not..sometimes its good and wise to follow your doctors suggestions :)

I'm addicted to genetics like Whitney was with crack. I'll be getting some willie nelson genetics asap.

I think people are over anal about brief light periods for work, opening a door, using a flashlight, etc.

At the same time I've seen some light leaks that made me really shake my head.

"you didn't think that ray of light for the last 2 months was a big deal????"

fairly certain all your instrumental LED's are designed to be in your darkroom, harmless. I've seen people use scotch tape and foil to make little flaps over them, but probably not necessary.
