Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I'll probably start with a CA one first, if I do it. I've been told "Yes! Do it!" and "No! Waste of time! It's all politics." We'll just have to see.

But I can tell you that every plant I grow is supposed to be the best one I've done yet. It doesn't always work out that way, but more often than not each harvest is better than the previous.

Doc I think if you wanted to win that cup you would. Look at what Kyle Kushman's doing with his vegan stuff. It's close to what we're doing just missing rocks and some other goodies. I think if you ran whatever strain it was you choose to run for it under the led's. Nobody will touch you. Not on their best day.

Shit doc pretty sure last year you were saying your lemon paki would give everyone a run for their money. Imagine her now. CA cup would be sick but need to have cali med card to attend right?

Really wanted to go to the seattle cup this weekend, but funds are a bit tight for excursions like that as well as I have no one to tend the garden.

I've heard mixed reviews on the cups, but as a sheltered hawaiian on his first weed trip, I'd be psyching.

Next year.

Bro it costs $1000 and 40g's to enter...lol

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

The problem I have with it is that I heard it's 100% political. I'd have to make a really large "donation" or but a bunch of ad space from the sponsors of the cup if I was to have a chance.

Of course, just because I heard a couple people say that doesn't mean it's true.

Yeah I've heard about the same thing. That "entry fee" basically gets your name on the list....

Bro I not wasting my money on that! I'm the only judge of my weed who's opinion matters! LOL

I wanted to go so I could hit the breeder tents to scoop beans, and concentrate makers so I can dab my self into oblivion.

Tickets to the cup were $100 for both days plus you get a bunch of shwag. And free dabs. Hello!

Very reasonable.

Doc, you ever, or hear of anyone refrigerating their herb to either chill it and or dry it? Do sugars exists in the ripe bud? If there is, chilling it may keep the sugars sugar. With amazing local summer corn, and potatoes, I found that not chilling the corn as soon as possible, the corns' sugars converted to their longer sister, starch..same for potatoes..a refrigerated potato becomes sweet., but not a sweet potato :)
When making fries, i want the starchy russet potato.

Im going to try a few buds in the fridge, both chilled and possibly dried, and get back here with results. :)

I think it's a matter of personal taste. I like to have a day or two of photosynthesis occur in my newly harvested, plumped and washed buds. That builds up sugar, with nowhere for it to go.

Drying in a cold environment will probably produce a different flavor profile.....which is very cool and something to experiment with!

As in yOu keep lights on them during the first few days of drying?

When I brought some Paki into Harborside they told me I'd be a contender for sure....but other people have told me that it's pretty much decided who is going to win ahead of time, and they're usually seed companies that already have beans for the winner ready to go, with "Cup Winner" labels already printed up.

Doc...if I may...i'de like to just mention a few tips and pointers to members about their electrical uses.Got thinking about this stuff today for some reason.Anyhow...a lot of people out there think that just because the circuit breaker says 15amps,they can draw 15amps from the circuit.........wrong. An example is this....most electrical heaters say they are 1500watts on them, that's because that's the safe limit for a 15a breaker. First ,test your house to see exactly what your incoming supply is.It could be as low as 110 volts,or as high as 120volts...it matters! So a 1500w heater at 120 volts will use 12.5 amps of power. That's the limit for one circuit.Even though there still appears to be room on it!The electrical code states that no circuit shall be used at 100% capacity.I believe it states 13.5 amps as a ceiling. That's about 85% . A good practice to get into is trying to limit the "draw" to 1 kilowatt per circuit or 1000watts.I know you can go to 1500watts (or 12,5 amps),but if you keep it at ,or below 1000w ,you won't ever have to worry about overloading a circuit causing a fire of premature circuit failure! Another safe practice is to have all your motors (fans ,D.H.,etc) on a separate circuit from your lighting. For an example....my filter and exaust fan combo is on a separate feed with circ fans etc. This serves two purposes, first ...my filter is way important...more important than even our beloved lights.Without this combo many of us just couldn't risk growing!Good idea to keep these separate. If your worried about your "room" draw going over 1000watts....bring in another feed from the panel. It's worth the pc. of mind. When I go away every winter to Jamaica, I leave with the comfort of knowing iv'e done all I can to make my place safe ,electrically.A buddy looks after the girls and doesn't have to worry about anything !So please everyone ...don't push your circuits too far past 1000w for safety and pc. of mind.Hope I just saved someone from a possible disaster. Cheers all!

Thanks Duggan! I've been thinking of dropping another circuit in my office. What would you say is safe wattage on a 20amp breaker?

750w for bloom
100w for veg
100w for mom tent
A/C I think runs about 500-600w
And a couple fans although those are fairly low wattage.

I better get on that extra circuit

Great stuff Duggan!

I had my stuff professionally wired for the reasons you mention above and a few others. I use 220 as much as possible and have my lights on two 60 amp 220 breakers.....lot's of headroom.

Also, found that loose neutrals and crossed neutrals pretty much ruin any type of Auto-restart on AC's and the like.

"Garage fire engulfs house and threatens neighbors in SmallTown last night. Investigations are ongoing, but initial reports indicate the homeowner was growing marijuana indoors and faulty wiring cause the fire."<<<<------don't let this familiar headline be about YOU!

Great stuff Duggan!

Agreed that is good stuff. These lines right here are one of the major reasons for my lighting situation change....

Yes ,you better! That's too much for one 20a. circuit, not to mention ...you shouldn't put it all on one circuit anyhow....if it ever tripped ,you'de lose everything at once...not good!Split it up as equally as you can.And BTW ,if you have a 20amp circuit (120v) all the receptacles on that circuit have to be 20 amp as well....those are called "t-slots" .they are configured differently than a 15a .T slots look a little different so you can plug in ,either a 15a. device or a 20 amp device (which has a different looking "male" plug.)Back to your question....if it was me....I wouldn't want any more than about 15 running thru a 20 amp circuit. Why is it 20 and not a standard 15? just curious. For you here's a good way....put all the lighting (950w) on one circuit and everything else on another (designated of course). Remember too...when all your fans start up they will draw way more than their nameplate states (current inrush) until they come up to speed. Another thing to remember as well...a circuit is only as safe as the connections. If any are done too lose or not good ...that will be a "hot" spot and will be where the problem starts,if and when it does.Hope this helps a bit Tav! Please don't hesitate to ask....any q's.if you have more. Cheers!
