Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

The hardest part of the kit, is letting it do its thing...without owner intervention :)
Just follow instructions, watch what happens when soil, plant and foliars sync...
Doc, what do florals do with the kit? Roses, and other very fragrant flowers must be insane...

Hey Ziggy, your soooo right about just letting the "kit" do it's work.I was tempted, my first time to mess around with things but Doc convinced me to just let it happen. If people follow directions to the letter ,the results speak for themselves!Cheers!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hey Doc, I've been thinking about your long flowering sativa issues and found some links I thought I would share. The first is an interview by Jon Frank of Mr Lynn Hoag, who uses the Ellen White Fruit Tree Planting Method.

Audio Downloads - Free Downloads | HighBrix Gardens - click the link in the middle of the page "Fruit Trees On Steroids"

This method involves digging a hole, roughly 3' x 3' deep. At the bottom, either drainage tile or a drain pipe is lain to aid in transportation of oxygen to the roots. Then, a 1 foot layer of "rich soil" is compacted down, on top of which a layer of rocks is laid. This is apparently an integral part of the process. Lynn admits to not knowing the why behind it mattering, other than saying that it affects the electric charge of the soil.

About the "rich soil" they mention using. Although they are growing with the interest of high brix, what would you think about using your high brix mix with this method? The next layer of soil, 1 foot deep, they mention to use is "plain soil" which I would equate to plain Pro Mix. Then a third layer, also 1 foot deep, is "rich soil" again, or high brix mix. On top of this they mention to use a 1" layer of compost, as an alternative I was thinking worm castings would work. Then there is a 3" layer of leaf mulch, which I think we all can provide. Even if it is leaf mulch from the yard, that would suffice. On top of this, 250-500 worm are added.

Although the diagram in the pdf shows a layer of rocks on top of the layer of leaf mulch, Lynn only uses this for cosmetics, as the leaf mulch gets eaten by the worms and needs to be replaced about every 6 months. A grow season for a long flowering sativa is almost approaching that, all depending on the strain.

Here is the second link, it is the method that Lynn Hoag is talking about, the Ellen White Tree Planting Method.

I hope you found this information at least entertaining, perhaps even beneficial. I believe you would be able to pull something like this off quite well.

What are your thoughts?

Hey GK,

I am quite familiar with everyone you mentioned above and the method. I'll be using a variation of the EGW tree planting for outdoor/greenhouse growing.

BTW, Lynn is teaching a "Hands on" ORGANIC high brix seminar in a week or two, I think.

Doc, did you ever use or do you think this would be OK along with 6-5-3 ?
TeraVita SP-90 Humic Acid 100% Soluble Powder

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

We all made noob mistakes bro. Your first harvest looks light years better than my first...Seriously!!!

To be fair this isn't actually my first harvest. I had a 1k hps I grew with a few years back when I lived in the north east. Using the full line of AN and fox farm soil I was able to grow some nice big fat buds (like the size of my arm buds) but the potency was never up to par and they always seemed to get nanners twards the end. I really had no idea what I was doing, since it wasnt exactly legal I only did research at a friends house and stayed off the forums. This is the first bud I have ever grown that is as good as the dispensary and its not just as good it blows it away! Not to mention the kit costs a FRACTION of what I spent on AN and fox farm :thanks:

Then there was the autoflower debacle but I won't go there, lets just say they didnt turn out well and went in the garbage. If your interested in learning what not to do the link is in my sig :P

Now that everything is setup and working correctly i'm really excited for my next batch. I cant freaking wait to see what these things can do when I am not making life difficult for them by jacking with their photoperiod and feeding them super hard water (although the plushberry might of actually liked the hard water not sure) Plus it took the first couple months of this grow to get my temps and humidity nailed down, it was kinda all over the place while I figured out when its best to run the lights and when I needed to set my thermostat for what temps to keep them in the right zone. This grow started in the middle of summer when outside temps get over 115 so getting the AC set just right was not easy. Turns out my thermostat likes to buffer so if its set at 78 during the day and then you switch it to 72 for lights on it starts changing the temps about an hour early so its at the right temp when it hits the programmed time. This was not to hard to adjust for but if you manually change the temp the buffering turns off so every time my wife touched the thermostat the temps would get to hot when the lights first came on since I had it programmed to kick down an hour later. This all took time to figure out plus I bought more lights in the middle of the grow so that changed everything all over again lol.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I have no doubt my success this time is due to being able to do research and learn from you all and most of all Docs Kit! If I can grow good buds with the kit anyone can. I screw everything up that doesn't involve a computer :P

Hello Amigo
Yes the kit cant be improved !
No bat shit etc, the only thing might be to add a couple
of inches of earth worm castings to the top layer, soak gently
with a mister spray bottle until wet, i did this about one week
after going into flower mode and they went Bursurk !

Have a good 1

Most of us already do that. And yes, it works well!

However, I'm now top dressing with "Rescue soil" which is my used soil, trimmings, Roots and occasionally some new ProMix or some EWC. Pretty much Curso's idea.

Hey Doc, my leds have two settings, veg and bloom. Never grew with them yet. I was wondering if I grew 12-12 from seed, should I turn the bloom setting on as well whenever I see there starting to flower? Appreciate your input!

I would start them on veg, and when nodes start alternating, pre-flowers have formed and the plant starts to stretch (bloom) switch over to the bloom setting.

I'm gonna do the same thing here in a couple days. Got two 600 watt LED's I'm going to put over a 6x3 tray.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Anyone going?

Sadly, I'm not able to make it. But Lynn does classes in CA all the time. The only thing I'll say is that he is NOT interested in our crop. Ellen G. White (the tree planting method) was the founder of Seventh Day Adventist's denomination. They are super cool people, but not exactly into weed....although they do agree it is medicinal. That's why I handle the cannabis aspect of High Brix growing via IAl.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

My interest in the method is it's potential application for long flowering sativas. I'd love to see some Willie and/or Columbian grown in the EGW method. Eagerly looking forward to your greenhouse/outdoor season. Please take lots of pics!

I usually don't take many greenhouse pics. Here and there, once in a while. You can guess as to my reasons, but the greenhouse is owned by 2 people on land other than my own....

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc, youve done full grows with just CD. Have you tried using all 3 kit drenches, starting w Growth, Transplant, Tea, and small amt of Cat, then increasing % of Transplant and Cat while decreasing amt of Growth as it goes into flower. Then hit hard with Cat, then with a Growth soak when buds need plumping? Water in between feedings.. Foliars stay same
