Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Dugan, "week 4 FROM pistols"? Not from the start of 12/12? I shot Doc some pics in an earlier post showing early flower formation in week two and inquired about doing CD the following week and he felt they were far enough along to do so. I'm really interested in your and Canucks experience with doing a CD later in the cycle.

Canuck: do you wait until the fourth week from pistol FORMATION regardless of what week of flowering you're in?

Thanks. (Again, this is my first grow so I'm learning as I go....)
Ive waited until i felt the buds were completely set and the soil was ready for it. Like dug said, it looks like theres a ton of resin but no bulking. Ive also found that in some strains its better to give a weaker cd solution but by no means at 3 weeks from flip for any strain. When i feel the flowers are set and about a third of the way into bloom (after first pistils!!) ill give them a good soak with water then make another observation and decide from there whether or not the next feeding will be just water or c.d. Personally i do just water too, no 1/4 transplant. If theyre ready ill give 3 ml of c.d. and again make an observation of the flowers and soil and if alls well ill give a full feed of c.d. the next time (maybe 6 mls rather than 5).
Oh and dont be afraid to just water in between drenches. We know now that hb growing takes a lil longer than other conventional methods of growing. Those waters between drenches are vital imo. Drenches are just that...good soakings! Waters can be on the light side (depending on finish pot size) like just a gallon.

Yes medman., if you go back a ways and read the post by graytail he explains his take on what the C.D. exactly does.Doc has also explained it in detail as well.If you give the C.D. too early it can stunt the growth somewhat. From what i understand ,after reading lots and using the C.D. it's best to give it when the flowering process is well under way and soil energy is way up! Flowering process has a curve if you know what i mean? Give it to them when they are really pushin the pistols out fast and plentifull. Not when they start flowering. Some people give it too early after pistols start.Wait till the END of week 3 or 4. It takes about a week to 10 days after the C.D's for the flowering to start rockin again. When it does the buds will continue to grow and bulk up normally but with way better resin production due to the different form of nitrogen. Anyhow ,hope this helped .Doc will prolly chime in here and give you his take on it all.He da man! Cheers.

Ya Canuck, i think medman gave way too early.Doc says 3 or 4 weeks in from pistols not from flip.I gave mine at the end of week 4...from pistols. If you saw mine before C.D. some would say i waited too long...i don't think so!It's just a matter of getting used to the "kit" and how it all works together.Cheers.

Some pics. Everything is ready for harvest ASAP, with the exception of Willie Nelson, which has another month or so. I've cut back the photoperiod to 11:15 minutes, down from 11:30, down from 11:45, down from 12:00. This took 5 weeks.

The Wille went completely limp and dry, but has bounced back and is starting to green up again. Bud formation didn't let up. The plant is incredibly large, but this time we're going to make it! Willie Nelson +2, Doc Bud almost +1.

Beautiful stuff, Doc - congrats on the Willie - she's definitely a wild thing, but it looks like you tamed 'er! :thumb:

Wow...nice green.Close call on W.N.? She looks about right eh.I'm gonna say she'l top all your previous indoor, single plant yields! No problem.Talk to me Doc...Are you giving her lots of "sunshine". I would let her have a 1k all to her self:) How big a pot she in now?Are you gonna go bigger for the last 4-5 weeks ...or chance it? How's the trich production now? Sorry for all the Q's.I have more!:)Cheers.

She's under 2 1000wat HPS bulbs. 7 gallon pot. I'm not gonna go bigger. I have to water pretty much daily and I'm drenching with 1.5x feed I normally would. So far, so good. I was especially happy to see her green back up.

There's not much resin yet, but the smell is fantastic. The resin will come up in the next few weeks, but these are tiny Sativa triches...not great big indica triches.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

:headbang:Ya ,whenever i make bubblehash with sativas it's easy to tell when you clean out the bags for glands. They are much smaller and go thru the first few bags before stopping at the 45 micron and smaller! Indica gland heads are indeed ,much bigger! You know what they say?..."sativas are a true smoking marijiuana...indicas are for hash" She looks great and will be worth all the extra tlc!Nice Doc!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Wonderful high brix buds! This is my first post. I have read every word of this thread and many pages of other threads and will request Doc's kit definitely. The only way to get pro mix where I live is to have it shipped in. I'm getting prepared...

Tora Bora Regular

LA Confidential x X18 Pure Pakistani

Indoor
The Tora Bora is a peaceful meeting of a pure Pakistani and a pure Afghani! This cross is a mix of two legendary strains; the LA known for a slow veg, modest yield, and Great Powerful flavor; and, the X18 known for stretching in the first month only to slow down and finish pungent and blueish with her buds dense and rock hard. The mix of the two provides a quick vegging, early finishing strain having dark green buds with blueish rock hard nugs incrusted in crystals. Average yields for the Tora Bora make her a great plant for small as well as large gardens. LA & X18 are strong medical herbs and both have a history of relieving pain and helping patients with insomnia. Altogether, the Tora Bora is the knock out!! A must for any one who considers themselves a "heavy" or "high tolerant" smoker!

Parentage: LA Confidential x X18 Pure Pakistani Indica/Sativa: 99% Indica : 1% Sativa Yield: 450-550g/m2

Indoor flowering 8 to 9 weeks

I think this genetic might have Great Potential ? Have a good 1, Bulldog

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hey doc...what do you think of a 2'x4'x14" raised bed with 50 gal of your mix indoors, enclosed under 600watt hps cooled??? How would you recommend me to do...would I follow the directions as they are or is there anything else I need to consider??? Any tips??? Would I be able to squeeze 6 plants in there???

You might be able to squeeze 6 in there.....but 4 would work better. I think a setup such as you describe would kick serious ass.

:cheesygrinsmiley: I've considered filling my concrete room with soil a foot deep - 20 cu ft or more. But I wonder about competition in the soil. Wouldn't it be better to divide it into compartments?

I think if the ROOTS was in abundance there wouldnt be an issue...might actually be beneficial for all the plants

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

duggan and canuck, appreciate the comments and advice. I know we're all learning - and I can get pretty anal about this, but it is a little confusing when there's differences of opinion. I know you two are "out there" on the leading edge of cannabis cultivation and are in a position to experiment, but trying to incorporate Doc's instructions, your experiments, etc., can be frustrating at times.

canuck: would you elaborate on this comment? "When i feel the flowers are set and about a third of the way into bloom (after first pistils!!)" Please explain your version of when the "flowers are set". How do you determine "a third of the way"? Time-based? Experience?

duggan: you stated from Doc, "Doc says 3 or 4 weeks in from pistols not from flip", but yet the latest instructions I have says the following: Note "used right when buds set (week 3 and 4)" There's also multiple references to giving CD during weeks 3 and 4. Maybe I don't understand this. Does "buds set" mean first pistols emerging or a handful? I take it to mean when the pistols really start to form. Yes? I always assumed this meant week 3 and 4 of flowering. Maybe it would be better stated, "week 3 and 4 from the formation of pistols".

Doc: would you please define "but set" as you use the term?

"**Cat(ionic) Drench: This is used right when buds set (week 3 and 4). It is strongly reproductive in effect and if used at the wrong time will result in stunted growth and lower yields. Used at the proper time, unprecedented resin formation takes place. It is used twice in a row (no water in between applications). Using Cat Drench late in bloom may increase certain flavors and smells, but it also results in a more "gamey" flavor in produce."

I do see how everyone's approach is similar and varies by a matter of degrees. When I entered week 3 I sent Doc some pics of bud development and he did recommend that I wait until the end of week 3 (and 4, of course), which I did. Sounds like I should have waited a little bit longer.

Again, thanks to all of you for your willingness to share and educate us newbies!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

This is my most recent plant to get cat drench. In this pic it got it for the first time....

In this pic it got it the 2nd time(watering 3 times in between the 2 drenches) the day before the pic...
