Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Mornin Doc! Just a little update on my MK Ultra's. Well ,you know about the bigger pots but i'de like to share a couple other things I've learned this time round with your "kit".First off, they are in week 5 now of flowering(6-1/2 since flip) and look way,way healthier than last run in all aspects,no burnt tips ,no yellowing, still shiney and drinking lots.Even the big fans look good.I can, however see that i'l need to give a little more epsoms ,just a little with the next drink. The things I did differently this time was ,of course bigger pots ,giving the recharge 3 weeks earlier and top dressing with way more w.w. ewc's. (2inches on top) and as well not soaking as much between feedings, but just enough to keep the soil moist.I feel that all these little tweeks are resulting in much healthier plants in general!I am getting a nice feel to using the kit and would just like to pass these tips on to "the gang" Cheers everyone!:allgood:

Sounds like you're moving right along the learning curve....congrats!

I'm working on a new drench for these hydro strains that will negate the need for Epsom. I don't have it dialed in just yet...but I'm hopeful.

When growing more pure genetics, the epsom isn't needed and in fact should be avoided. But these salt lovers need just a wee little boost.

Woot! Finally caught up in this journal. So much great info here. My soil is done cooking and my environment is complete, High Brix here I come.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

:welcome:Hey Medman...hang in there bro...it's a little confusing at first but you will catch on...we all did.Your right in saying we are all learning.Doc has done alot of research ,work and trial and error to get where he is today.I'm just glad he shares it all with us!As far as the C.D. goes ...after the pistols are starting to form little clusters of buds, this is when you start timing your C.D.This is the "start" of flowering. If you are patient ,wait until they have been in flower for 3 to 4 FULL weeks ,then give them a good soaking as per Doc's instructions with the C.D. From what iv'e gathered from Doc, Curso,Graytail,Canuck and a few others ,it' (C.D.) works best when flowering is nearing it's most productive stage...when they're really rockin,if ya know what i mean.I gave my present run of MK Ultra 4 full weeks of flowering before the C.D.,NOT 4 weeks from flip!! After 4 days they got another full soaking of it.Now it's just water and tea twice ,then i'l get right back to growth energy and the program.Curso and the gang here all seem to be doing it a little different but with one common denominator...we all wait 3-4 weeks for the first C.D.Cheers bro and welcome to the world of H.B. growing. There's nothin like the quality of herb from this method!

Thanks, man. The more discussion, the more understanding! I think I'm starting to get it! LOL!!

After this discussion, I reread Doc's instructions regarding Week 3 and 4 for the CD. On the surface I took it as 3&4 weeks from the flip, but I can see now how it could have been read and really means 3 & 4 from the actual production of flowers.

There's a lot of forums out there where everyone (well, many) are very stuck in their methods. "If it's not broke, don't fix it" is fine, but it's all about growing the best bud and that means tring different things/methods, etc. this forum is great for that and the willingness of all to share sure makes things easier for us newbies.

I took Doc's advice and gave them Energy (and another week). They've responded nicely and bulked up a bit. Sunday is harvest day!

Thanks again.

yo doc.. ladies are getting a bit better.. unfortunately could not find caco3 raw and used the dolomite.. ive been seeing improvements, but after reading this thread i understand why not to use the dolomite.. luckily i found how to get the raw caco3, just wondering how much i should top dress with or dilution rate for caco3... im using 150gal bags and 200 gal bags... thanks again for all the help.. much love

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

exciting NCR, what you got ready to grow?

Let's see, I have the following in 2 gal Geo pots:
4@ Swiss Gold(high cbd)
2@ Ac/Dc(high cbd)
2@ Trainwreck
6@ Canna-Tsu(Cannatonic x Sour Tsunami)
2@ Gods Gift
2@ Girl Scout Cookie
2@ Pineapple Express
2@ Grape Ape
2@ Sour Diesel
6@ Cannatonic in solo cups(a week old from seed)

All are female clones except for the Cannatonic. I also have 3 Banana Kush outdoors that are about 8' tall in 45gal Geo pots with no pre flowers showing yet, they are going to be monsters.
Welcome aboard NCR! You will soon be a High Brix snob like the rest of us.:welcome:

Thank you, I'm looking forward to it.:thanks:

You can usually find directions for how much to add based on container size, etc. Epsoma has that info right on the bag. Perhaps you could look up one of their labels and figure it out. Based on your mix, I'd seek to raise pH by 1 point.....IE from 5.5 to 6.5. That will put you in the ball park.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Old school goin on here ladies and gents...white widow, bubba kush and ak47 :)
All high brix of course! Going with an 8 week veg cycle. Using cfls until i feel theyre ready to be blasted with 900w of led. All 2nd run soil btw so stand the f#@k by lol :)

i have top dressed with dolomite #10 which is a bigger granule.. probably break down slower.. im not receiving the caco3 until the 14th-15th had to order it... but my question is when it comes will i be ok to give some caco3 top dress or should i give it some time and see what the dolomite does.. could you add too much caco3 and make the soil toxic? the dolomite 10 has 49% caco3... i know the raw caco3 i ordered is 90+%...

Hey Canuck...nice choice for strains! I envy your AK grow. Have always wanted to run it.Now that i'm dialed in with Doc's kit I may just give it a go! Good luck with your "second run".Oh,wait...luck has absolutely nothing to do with it.Cheers bro!:yummy:

I have no idea. You're best served by finishing your current grow and starting fresh with the right soil.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

i figured id better get over here for you to have a look DOC!!!

room temp day: 78-85
night: 65-70
RH: 45-60%

under 3 LEDs total of ~400 actual watts.

The plants went a bit dry when i was gone and for 2 days they got into the high 90's when i was gone.

In high brix soil following directions like all the other plants ive done in HB.

I have since raised the lights to about 30" and turned one off since i dont know quite what is going on....is it LED light bleaching or heat or nute prob?????

they leaves are turning yellow at the base of the fans and working its way to the leaf tip where it looks like its being burned?

That's weird! I don't think it's lite bleaching. It could have something to do with them drying out and getting hot....remember our plants cannot feed themselves without the microherd.

Give them a good soaking, preferrably by letting them soak in a bucket. 15ml Tea and use 1oz Transplant per gallon of water.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hi Doc, I have a question about my plushberrys. They seem to keep having the bottom most leaves brown up and die off. This is not happening at an alarming pace but it seems to just keep working its way up the plants so it is concerning. The rest of the plant looks perfectly healthy and happy and are about a month and a half old at this point. I ran them on 12/12 for a couple weeks early on to sex them and then put them back to 18/6 to veg more. I plan on flipping them this week or next. The first time around they were the only two plants I was growing highbrix so I thought I was doing something wrong. This time I also have a couple world of seeeds amazonia landrace and they are doing great with no leaf die off. Is there anything I can do to make the plushberry happy or should I just give up on it and stick with the landrace strains that work better in your kit soil?

I am using pretty hard tap water that I let sit in a bucket for at least a week (no bubbler) to make sure the chloramine is gone.

I appreciate any input.
Thanks!
Smokey

Hey Smokey,

Anything and Everything grows in the kit soil. I hope no one has the impression that only landrace strains will grow well. Nothing could be further from the truth! Certain strains that really do best in a high salt medium still grow great in kit soil....they just don't smell or taste the same. All plants will grow great in the soil.

So....are yours rootbound? I'll bet that's the problem. The first two weeks of 12/12 features very vigorous root growth. What size are they in?

It shouldn't be root bound. Its in a 3 gal air pot and the plant is pretty small, I think the plushberry actually started to flower and going back to 18/6 seems to have stunted it. I will get some pics tonight when they wake up. Like I said 98% of the plant looks perfect its just the bottom most leaves will brown up starting at the tips and just die off, once I remove that set it goes to the next and all 3 plushberrys I have tried have done this. I got the landrace strains because I wasn't having much luck keeping the plushberrys happy the first time around but had a couple beans left so I figured I would give them another try.
