Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc I got a two part question for you...

You advised me to soak my plants with a 1/4 of transplant the next time my ladies need water, well I was planning on transplanting to the 7 gallon pots this week as it has been a little over 30 days from seed and they are getting big and drinking up the water pretty fast...

The question is about watering with transplant after the transplant.. The directions in the kit say to thoroughly soak the medium and I was thinking of giving them a gallon each.. Is that too much?? Second question is about how much transplant to mix into to water. My thinking was 1 oz of transplant was all that was needed for 6 plants regardless of the amount of water given, but after rereading the directions I see that I am to use 1oz per gallon of water.. How does all of this sound??

First of all, let me apologize for not updating the instructions in a timely manner.

There isn't a need for "Transplant water" with the new Roots product. Just give them a normal drench......1 oz for all the plants.....if you're feeding with transplant, growth energy, etc.

The 1/4 oz. thing is something I do EACH and EVERY time I water or feed. I add 1/4 oz of transplant to all feed water.....usually 1./4 oz per 5 gallon bucket.

That sounds good to me..I watered with energy last week so this week was going to be and RO week with 1/4 TP. I vaguely remember you saying we no longer needed transplant water with the new roots, so my apologies for not doing my homework..

Don't feel bad bro, until you asked I had no idea...;) Good looking out on asking good questions :high-five:

do you think this can be broad mite damage.. i am using a 100x microscope but not seeing any eggs or mites even on the most wrinkled leaf...

I don't see the tell tale signs of insects sucking juice, but you've some twisty leaves for sure.....something not right with the roots is my guess.

What do you feed it? What's it planted in?

im in 150 gal bags... top soil/ mushroom compost/ manure 40/40/20 blend...
whats crazy is im using same shit in my other garden but 200 gal bags and im not experiencing the same problem..
but im feeding fish emulsion and floranova veg... the fish emulsion is 1 yr old... but i stopped feeding and top dressed some calmag on top.. very light watering.. on my other garden my leaves arent growing to there full potential and my buddy said it was prob to hot on nitrogen

Too hot on ammonical nitrogen most likely. That's a very hot manure blend you're using. I'd stop with the FloraNova right away, top dress with a bit of limestone and feed the fish fert every now and then. There's no reason why the plant's can't recover from that, especially early in the season.

But excess nitrogen is pretty much the same thing as root damage.....they go together.

bad ass brotha.. thanks for the advice... hope to post pics soon of my recovered girls... have you heard of broad mites? or seen the damage they do?

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I'm happy to report I haven't had any experience with broad mites. Bud worm, aphids....I'm more familiar with that kind of stuff where I am.

i got ya.. well ya i took samples from various plants and strains and def no bugs or eggs (maybe one small white egg) but def not like the crazy looking broad mite eggs.. the plants are still looking deformed up top... im starting to notice little rust spots at the tips as if it were nutrient burn, but not yellow, just rust looking.. i want to top dress with a little dolomite tomorrow and keep giving little water... it sucks bc the garden im having more probs with i started june 1st out of 1gals.. my other girls were out may 17th out of 7gals.. and those are fine, at least no deforming tops, but the leaves are not growing out to there full potential.. shits been a bummer, but i do feel a tad bit better that im not finding anything crawling around underneath the leaves..
do you think i should lay off top dressing with anything?

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

i also sprayed with nuke em at 4oz per gallon do you think that could have affected the tops? the only thing is i got some girls that i did same thing too right next to the ones that look upset as well as everything in my other garden that arent showing any of those signs or symptoms..

Waaaay too much! Just water til theyre straight. Sounds like youre using way too much of everything to me. Id give em a real good flush then go from there

Yes, I think you should top dress with Limestone. Not dolomite....CaC03....limestone. A manure mix like that is going to greatly acidify the soil and could very well burn the roots. The limestone will help keep that pH in range. Dolomite does other stuff I don't like. Limestone is much better in a biological system.

Signs of rising Brix:

Landrace strains grow better in High Brix soil, as their roots systems are fully adapted to microbes and minerals, while some hybrids are better adapted to NPK and salt. Both will grow, but the landrace strains will grow /QUOTE]

Doc, regarding Landrace strains in HB: You've stated the above at various times through out this thread. Is your opinion pretty well set on this? Have you written anything separate (from this thread) regarding Landrace strains? Is there a diff. growing landrace Indicas vs Sativas in HB?

I'd like to give a true landrace strain(s) a try, but being fairly new at this, could use a suggestion on a strain or two as well as a source(s) for LR strains. It seems from what I'm reading that many of the LR strains have long flowering times, especially the Sativas. Could you recommend a strain - maybe one that is "mostly" pure, that would keep the size and flowering time reasonable?

It also seems that some seed shops advertise strains as "Landrace", but one wonders the accuracy of their claims.

Thanks in advance. BTW - I harvest my first (HB) grow next week. I'll include some pics before I harvest. Have to say I'm pretty pleased with your method Can't thank you enough! Kudos

Hey Mike! I'm glad you like High Brix gardening. I think you'll like your produce.

I'd say Pakistani, Afghani and Thai strains work VERY well in high brix soil. Some of the Sativa's that take forever need gigantic containers and greenhouses. But the Paki/afghan stuff is just fantastic. True Kush's rock as well.

I don't know much about that strain. Generally speaking, the more pure a strain is, the better it will do in High Brix. Strains that have been made famous in hydro, like OG Kush, don't come out the same. Other strains that may not be "good" in hydro can really surprise when done in good soil.

The bottom line is find stuff you enjoy smoking and growing and stick with it!

They all grow very healthy, the taste is just different from what we're sometimes used to. I think a good afghan or paki strain is a perfect choice.
