Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc I feel like I am beginning to sound like a broken record.. I think in my last 5 postings or so in your journal I at some point end up thanking you for the knowledge you provide us... This post is no different...

The fact that you are taking time out of your day while your on vacation to monitor my journal and offer your advice is amazing to me.. Then to top it off its not like you check once in a blue moon.. No, I post and within a few hours you like my post or comment... That is A1 customer service.. Your time management skills has to be some sort of legendary(if you dont know he runs a practice, nutrient company, is married, has children and still makes time for us knuckle heads).. I think I speak for many others when I say thank you. I just hope that one day soon when I come out there for a cannabis cup or something that I can at least shake your hand. Have fun and enjoy yourself...

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I drove across Uruguay today and am staying on a friends 10 acre "farm" which is really a lovely house, a large pond and a mowed Polo field. Still no Mota, but my chances have gone way up now that I'm close to Punta Del Este. I met a kid on the plane who will likely hook me up, but after viewing my pictures on the computer he began apologizing for the quality of herb and wants me to meet his dad and uncle.

My dad taught me, "Excellence opens doors." Who knows? Perhaps my passion for Ganja will open some doors down here in my favorite country ever?

Why do I check in on vacation? Because this is my passion. It gives me great joy. It makes me happy to check out what everyone is doing with my gear.

Wait till you all see what I'm harvesting when I get back.....

At this point of my life I am in a state of transition, but once I am more established I am hoping to attend a few on the West Coast.. I have do one in Cali and either one in Seattle or Denver.. There is one here in Flint, MI at the end of July.. They could have picked a better City to host it in, however, I would argue Michigan's summers are some of the best in the country.. You just have to know where to go

Please stop all foliar feeding immediately!

That's a huge source of salt buildup as foliars are 60% more absorbed than root uptake....so the plant must flush itself out in the form of exudates. My soil used to get too much salt on run 4, and the lab advised limited foliar feeding after the second run.

I think if you cut all your amendments so you're using about 30% as much as you currently are you'd be in the ballpark.

Remember, the stuff we add to the soil isn't readily available to the plant. If the soil is too hot, the foliars won't help and the plant will struggle.

Make the soil much more mild, and between the foliars and what the roots/microbes can bring in, things get in balance. It's always a temptation to use more of things....but it doesn't always help.

Like I said a few posts up, using my kit, the actual amendment for an entire bale of Promix is 1 cup total. Compare that to how much you're using (and how much I used to use back in the 6-5-3 days) and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Less is more when things are set up right.

In your case, I'd follow the flush with a very light feeding of Calcium Nitrate and beneficials. The Calcium Nitrate will keep the soil energy up and give the plant 2 things it needs and it will help fix your EC.

Another technique that helps is how you feed. I've adopted a method for the light eaters like this:

Alternate feed and water. On feed days, first flush the pot with 2-3 gallons of water. (assuming 7 gallon pot). Let it sit after the flushing for maybe 20 minutes, then gently pour 3/4 gallon of feed-water as a chaser to the flush.

For water only day, just water slowly until it comes out the bottom for a minute or two....maybe 2 gallons total.

Wow Doc!! Thank you! I really appreciate you, you truly are the DOC for caring for us like patients :) always got the right solution to the ailment!

What you say makes perfect sense, and I definitely see how giving the plant what it needs at the leaves, limits the need for the roots to draw in nutrients. Foliar feeding has been stopped currently. Do you think I should maybe hit them with just 1 last R/O and epsom salt foliar thought to help the plant push out those exudates? or just leave em be completely from here on out? (around day 55 flowering)

So when you say limited foliar feeding, are you doing it 1x per week about 1x per 2 weeks, or do you change based on phase of growth?

Each run I have been reducing the amendment amounts slightly and it does seem to improve my quality each run, so I will try it next soil mixing, reducing my overall amendments even more and seeing what happens.

Thank you so much for your advice, and always pointing out what I need to change or address, I really appreciate it and my plants do to!

I hope you enjoy your vacation...and really hope you can find some seeds :)

Peace

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I foliar feed about every 10 days, sometimes I'll let it go 14. Remember it takes a while for the soil to develop to its full potential. Once it hits that benchmark, the soil and plant take care of themselves.

Yep. Remember in "real life" the soil is getting rained on during the winter, which flushes salts, etc. Ideally, the soil is such that a good foliar is NEEDED every 1 to 2 weeks. The foliars signal the plant.

I will have to reduce my foliar feeding frequency on future grows. I was giving them a PGR/Amaze/Carboload/yucca foliar every week. I think I i will reduce it to every other week :)

You guys rock!!! thank you so much!

When I get back, you should get some Brix from me. It's got all that stuff and more....perfectly designed for what we do. 1 quart is 18 dollars I believe? Please don't quote me on that....it could be 14, I don't have my price lists in front of me. But it's mixed at 1 oz per quart of RO and that quart easily sprays 20+ large plants, so most home/hobby growers use 1/2 oz per feeding.

Doc, I gave the Cat Drench to the beautiful tomatoes :)
Re: question for the best plant on Earth. Its been said the soil is the engine.. So we're cruisin at 65 in growth with Growth or Transplant, and Tea. We then slam it into reverse with Cat Drench(CD)? Has anyone tried slowly 'changing gears' using a dose or 2 with a dilute CD than usual?

I don't know.....but certainly that something worth doing. Let us know how it goes.

Funny you should mention that DrZ, I have been planning do exactly that with the CD for my grow just because I've always believed in the less is more mentality.
