Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

What DB has said/written in the past is that 7gal is about the minimum size for maintinaing a thriving soil community fairly easily during a grow. Bigger is better for that. Some more experienced growers are having success in smaller pots, but that feels like a kinda advanced step to me. I’m trying it with some autos - very experimental.

In terms of cooking, the advice I got is that its best to mix n cook a whole batch at once - you can split it into 2 bales/totes to cook, but not smaller amounts than that or the cook wont work so well. But best is cooking all at once, thermal mass i guess (and simplicity).

That’s what I know about it :ganjamon:

:Namaste:

Hey Dutch! Small batches are not reccomended, I think the smallest that was reccomended was 1/2 batch. Doc says final pots should be at least 7 but there are a few that do smaller pots with good success. Are you joining the Brix Crew?

:passitleft:

Well right now I’m on the edge of joining the Brix crew... I’m reading in depth about it and I’m finding there may be some things to hold me back.... example pot sizes.

I’m in a 4x4x7 tent and trying 4 7Gal would be a tough grow! My 5Gal and 7Gal girls maxed out my tent already

BUT!!! That being said that’s why I’m asking the questions about soil size and cooking.

So next question if I cooked the entire batch of “soil” could I only use a portion of it to begin with and let the rest remain in the tote for storage until the next run?..... but here’s my issue with that... what about the amendment for 2nd and 3rd run soils. If using them I wouldn’t need to go back into the tote for a while.

Maybe I’m thinking about this process wrong. I still have lots of research to do before clicking the order button I think

This is what I’m doing.

I would use the 1st run first. if your using four 5's (not reccomended, ha!) then you would get a run of soil from each 1/2, not quite with 7's. Amazing job filling that tent! Is that four 5's? I started with HD buckets, moved to 10 gal fabric, now I use 15 plastic but have yet to do 4. I actually have 4 7's in my veg tent now. I have 2 4x4's. Keep the questions coming!

Here is what is just chopped yesterday.

Dam ween lookn good what is that strain?

@weenmeoff

That is only 2 plants ween. One is in a 5Gal and one is in a 7Gal.

That’s where I’m coming from though I couldn’t fit 4 plants in my tent of this size lol so that’s where limiting how much soil I use will be my first hurdle.

If I run a round with first batch empty my pots and store that soil again in a separate tote. Use more fresh soil from the 1st cooking until it’s all ran through once then dress the used soil with second amendment and begin process on second crops?

Good morning to ya Dutch! If you switch over to Doc's gear , i promise you , you will not regret it. As far as our soil and cooking. Best way for smaller grows (like most ) is to cook the entire bail and only use what you need. The rest will keep indefinitely. No need to keep it moist or give it attention after it's original 'cook'. I would suggest using the biggest pots u can. I am presently helping another member out with his first 'kit' grow and i recommend he use four , 10 gal. pots in his 4x4 tent, just like yours. I also recommended he use two kits , in rotation so he always has another batch of DBHBB soil , ready to go. Using tens will maximize your yield in that tent and let you relax somewhat and enjoy a stress free grow with a fantastic yield and very 'top shelf' bucket of produce.
Welcome to this neighborhood Dutch.....BTW....you are very lucky to have found this place , as everyone around these parts are passionate about what we do and will help you at every turn and you may even make a friend ....or ten, a,long the way. Cheers

Thanks Duggs! I’ve been reading about Brix for a while now but with these girls being my first plants ever and me still learning I hadn’t really thought about hibrix since I’m still learning the basics !

I’m using promix as my medium though so when I see that I started looking more into DBHBB

Y does it have to be doubled if dunking? but not doubled if watering from the top Im guessing?

It's doubled for dunking because not all of the nutes make it into the pot. Much is left over in the "dunk bucket".

Also, I realized the per soil & per water calculations to work out almost identically ASSUMING that you water with approximately 15% of the pot size, which is what mine take when they're dry.

For example, it takes about 1.5 gallons of water to soak my dry #10's. So, 1.5 ml per gallon of soil works out to 15 ml and 10ml per gallon of water is the same 15 ml. As long as the pots are dry, the dosages should be close enough, either way you calculate them.

Wow, that is amazing Dutch! How long did you veg? You must have done some serious training! Lots of people do 4 plants in 4x4s, heck even more! @overlord just did 9 plants all in 8 gal pots! If you can fill the tent with 2, more power to you! Did you harvest those yet and if so, what did they yield?

Duggan speaks the truth! He's pulling over 2lbs in a similar size space! It's not all about quantity though, quality is more important! Wanna smoke the best, smoothest, tastiest weed ever? Click that buy button brother! :high-five:

Looks like more of that FAKE stuff ! NOT ! . beautiful Ween, beautiful............:peace:

Thanks Rooster! Doc Buds kit strikes again!

:passitleft:

I haven’t harvested yet they are on flower day 42 today. I vegged for 82 days before flip them put a trellis net in spread them out flipped and here we are today.

I heartily recommend cooking the entire bale.....and reluctantly recommend cooking half the bale. No less!

As for container size, tent size, etc. We're all about quality in High Brix. IMO---and I know something about this stuff---7 gallons is the minimum sized pot for achieving High Brix. Bigger is indeed better.

If you're more focused on numbers of plants, smaller containers and so forth.....I think salt based ferts or hydro is better suited. You can grow more weed per square foot with hydro than any other method.

But, if you desire the highest quality product and can realize that 4 Seven gallon pots will grow more and better produce than 6 five gallon pots.....well, then High Brix is for you!

Quality is the number one, two and three most important goals for High Brix. Pot size, LST, scrogging.....these are way down the list.
