DobeWan's First Grow! LA Confidential & 24K Gold - LED - 3x3 - Coco

They are looking great Dobe, keep a eye on LA1, she is really reaching, looks like she wants to be a tree and could pop the top of the tent by the time she is done!:thumb:

OTM, looking awesome. I'm surprised the PK is growing so vigorously, from the nature of the stone / bud I always assumed it would be a low, bushy indica. I'm going to have to grow it before long given how well it has worked for me, but I'll wait until your photos push me to an impromptu seed order! I've been staying away from any pruning whatsoever since the flip. I'm going to wait until later in flower. Awesome news on the upcoming cloning. Biggest tip from me - get a humidity dome on them right away, and keep the dome misted as often as you can for the first few days.

CKS seeds lised the PK gals as 75% Indica and the Widow gals as 60/40 Indica/Sativa, when I compare some of the characteristics against yours, I think they marked the packages wrong, I just received them in a mini zip-lock with no original packaging, they were soaked in individual glasses that were marked with the strain, and sprouted on separate plates that were also marked. When they were put in rooters the little marking sticks were made and have followed them into their final destination, so I know I didn't mix them up.

The Widow gals have broad leaves and bunchy tight inner growth while the PK gals look much like your 24K's with more bud sites at the top, skinnier leaves and more spacing between nodes...maybe the person that shipped them was not in the right state of mind? I may have to send then a e-mail and ask!

Ase's comment got me thinking - my original goal was 5 oz of quality bud. I think I'm on track on the "quality bud" side: the genetics are good and I've kept 3 of the 4 pretty healthy. The light burn in veg on LA1 is the only real exception, and that probably won't impact the quality of the high. Still have to get through flower but I'm happy to this point.

But I have no idea about the "5 oz" side. I based that goal originally on how many watts the light draws and estimating 0.5g/watt. When is a good time to get a rough ballpark idea of expected yield? I'm thinking week 3-4 when stretch has stopped?

I think that after 6-7 weeks your question will be answered, and if you can expose as many of the potential sites to as much light as they can get you yield will go up, may have to do some tying and moving to spread them out a bit...kind of train as they grow.

Your goals are more realistic than mine, I was figuring a pound a plant based on what I could grow outdoors years ago...now I am thinking maybe 8 oz per with the PK or Widow? gals doing the bulk! I think I am going to start calling them the right side gals and left side gals till CKS sorts this out.

Looking good mate, im just in time for the show  subbed in, will catch up a bit later today :high-five:

:passitleft:

Thanks for stopping in Feral! I'll try to do your descriptions of the 24K smells justice but you set a high bar. :biglaugh:

(Feral journaled his 24K grow - and it basically smelled like armpits and rotten oranges until the end of flower!)

Her size is crazy but the 24Ks are reeling her in - I wouldn't be surprised to open the tent any day now to find they've caught up fully. They definitely have a big stretch advantage - but LA1 had about a 6 inch head start when I flipped!

Either way you'll know for sure in a few weeks - since one should have a whiter look, I expect. I've never grown either so I can't say. But PK presents a pretty classic indica body stone so I'd be really surprised if it grew like the 24K.

I was trying to avoid too much training at this point since I find it "harder" in a way - the height of the plant gives me no choice but to anchor to other stems, or to the side if the tent. But I've been doing it the last couple of nights for this exact reason - trying to get more light on some of those lower sites now in an effort to get them stretching to the canopy.

I enjoy the time with the plants but it goes by fast - it's nothing to spend an hour with them, watering and training.

Man, the full tent is looking great..your girls are getting huge! Have you been able to control the ant issue? I was thinking about getting some of those sticky trap stakes for my pots.

Thanks! No more ants in the tent since that one, and really very few in the house upstairs. I think it was just a fluke and not a sign of an issue. Nothing in the sticky traps either.

My logic was, if there are ants, they're eating honeydew from other bugs. But there's no sign of other bugs, and no more sign of ants. I'll continue to keep an eye out when I open the tent, but I'm not going to sweat it too much.

Sorry guys, was away and missed some comments, and I'm behind on everyone else's journal too. I'll see if I can do some catch up tonight. Hopefully I can get some photos posted so you guys can see the progress.

Hey Dobe... check your tap water. Mine suddenly swung 3points up on Saturday. Yeeesh!! City must be doing maintenance or something.

Crazy - I don't need to pour any tonight but I'll keep a close eye in the next few days. Mine usually comes out at 8 or so.

I'm not sure growing this stuff will ever be as therapeutic as consuming it, but there's something to be said for how anxiety melts away when you open the tent after lights on!

They've probably grown 6" since the last shots - and it would have been more had I not trained the longest tops to the sides of the pot.

They will be taking over your tent soon, I have seen the same thing happening in the last couple days, the scrog is allowing me to move the buds over to spread them out, and the next day again over to the next opening, so I have a fairly level canopy yet with a few more bud sites popping up to the light that I wasn't seeing before. As soon as lights are on, I am spending 1/2 hr watering the coco gals and the rest of the time moving buds!:slide:

I see that your fan leaves are getting huge, much like Canada Guy's are, are you still doing some tucking/tying?

A little - I'm doing it very low impact, just basically moving things around to try to get leaves out of the way of top sites. The only exception is LA1, which I'm doing some training on - I even tied some tops onto some fan leaves to get them down and to the side! You'll see shortly - I just took some pics and will post them up soon.

10F!

The stretch continues - it's relentless. I have about 10" of vertical space left for the 24Ks before they get inside the light's comfort zone of 24". Only 6" on for LA1. I'm a little worried. At least with the 24Ks I can maintain some additional control with training, but with LA1 I'm not sure I have any options other than risk more light burn, if it comes down to it. Hopefully the stretch slows in the next few days and that doesn't become a worry.

Otherwise with LA1 I've used ties and pipe cleaners as well as some tucking to try and expose as much of the lower growth as possible. It's working well so far.

LA2 has no such worries given all of its trials and tribulations in veg! It's none the worse for the wear though - the tops aren't as vigorous as the 24K but it's still looking like it can finish off decently.

No close ups on LA2 unfortunately - they all came out blurry. But the growth on the mature tops looks really nice, comparable to the nicest 24K tops.

The 24Ks have nice tops in abundance! That said they are still showing burning on the very tips of many leaves. I'm going to move down to a 1/4 nute dose tomorrow night. I knew these ladies were sensitive but this is more than I expected. No signs of any deficiencies at this point, but I'll keep an eye on that as I take the nutes lower.

These ladies are hard to tell apart at this point - I think there's a good chance I only got 1 of the 3 phenotypes but time will tell.

24K1 has some reasonably strong tops lower down the plant - I'm going to try to get them a view of the light so they can stretch up to the canopy a bit.

24K2 has those 5 strong, mature tops, and they're all looking great. I've managed to open up the middle a bit too.
