DobeWan's First Grow! LA Confidential & 24K Gold - LED - 3x3 - Coco

Chocolope...another strain I want to grow.

The lemon og kush was a great plant to grow. Both plants were almost identical. Very strong stuff. Smelled like citronella. The buzz is not my favourite, but I would grow it again.

I love the taste and smell of DNA stuff. How was the Lemon OG Kush? I liked their Super Lemon OG a lot and would definitely grow it.

I love the DNA stuff too. I've got a fresh pack of Sharksbreath (Great White Shark x Jamaican Lambsbreath) waiting in the wings.

The gals are looking great Dobe, really stretching up, hope you don't run out of room!

Hope you had a Happy Canada Day, I decided to take a little trip to my folk's place to celebrate the July 4th with my 87 year old dad, my mom passed a couple years ago and he is still at the home place doing his thing...also gives me a chance to look for my old High Times mag's!!!:laughtwo:

I bought a automatic watering system for the coco gals so I could do this, run it a couple days before I left and it worked well, if I don't return home to a complete disaster, will probably try to incorporate it to a full time watering system!

All of my plants were starting to show some stretching before I left, all were confirmed ladies showing a good amount of pistils except one, so hoping when I get back Tuesday evening I will be in awe!:jawdropper:

Keep up the good work, your gals are looking super!:thumb:

I found their Super Lemon OG and Lemon Skunk the same - really strong lemon smell and taste from both, I don't remember that spicy OG taste on the OG at all, just lemon. Better buzz from the OG than the Skunk, I preferred the balance and it was pretty strong as far as hybrids go. Both were nice but the OG had more of that wow factor I associate with DNA.

I've heard good things. I definitely want to do Kosher Kush at some point. I might grow Sour Kush too, I vape a lot of it, it's a go to for early evening for me.

Thanks! Down to the last few inches on the LA1! I have a couple more inches grace on the others. But we're reaching the end of the line, and it's going to be really close.

I have a grandma right around that age who is still going strong and living at her own place. Doesn't drive but she has great neighbours. Enjoy your trip and holiday!

I'm going away next weekend and thought about this too - ultimately decided to try watering and leaving water in the trays, and hoping for the best. I'm only away Friday to Sunday so I'll feed Friday morning before I leave and and again Sunday night when I get back. But I had the same thought as you - maybe I could get something as a precursor to using an automated system regularly. I have a longer time away in August so we'll see what happens and judge accordingly for next time.

We forget how fast they're growing when we see them every day - bet you're going to be blown away! Feel free to share some flower pics, would love to see how they're coming along!

Ugh... have not been feeling great. But luckily the ladies are going strong. These are intended to give me afternoon / evening (24K Gold) and nighttime (LA Confidential) relief when my stomach is in rough shape.

Unfortunately LA1 has hit its vertical limit. Stretch should stop any time now - but it may be too late for LA1. The light can go no higher, and it's right at the 24" threshold recommended for the light. She's looking pretty good all the same - lots of good development from the side colas. And her Christmas tree profile has allowed both her to get light down lower, as well as her neighbours to get better light penetration. I've all but resolved to grow LA2 and Kushy Kush in the Christmas tree profile with minimal training in round 2.

LA2 has a couple more inches of leeway, but not much. Her flowers / top sites are less developed than 24Ks - another reason I want to try not topping her in round 2.

24K1 continues to show the most burning on the tips but the flowers are coming along nicely.

24K2 has less burning on the tips and looks otherwise very happy. Flowers are coming along nicely.

Overall, really happy with where things are.

Bonus: veg tent. 17 days in for all 4 of these. LA2 is the cutting that rooted more quickly, and it looks like a healthy plant now. 24K2 didn't root as quickly but I believe it has, although I'm still waiting on that burst of vegetative growth to really prove it. Both Chocolope and Kushy Kush look almost ready to be potted up, about 3-4 days behind where I had the seedlings under the LED with the stronger-than-intended nutes. This T5 setup will serve me fine for now, but it's only a matter of time before I get a second regular sized tent and LED for veg. I'll probably pot these ladies up tomorrow, although it'll be tight for 3 gallon Smart Pots in the veg tent, so I'm thinking of buying some smaller plastic pots and waiting to pot up to the 3 gallons.

Thanks for following along!

I think my LED is 12" from my Cherry Bomb right now (and doing okay, can't get mine higher either). You should be plenty fine at 24" I think. I run my hand down from the bottom of the light and there is a noticeable temperature change on the back of my hand. When it gets to a comfortable point then your plants shouldn't be any higher than that point.

Looking good Dobe! Still very nice and healthy I see. If you have to, you can supercrop but only if you have to. Defol should also slow them down a bit. Stretch should be almost done by now. I noticed my plants stopped stretching after about 18 days 12/12.

Thanks Ase. My issue is that I did get light burn on my LA1 during veg, so I know she'll burn if she's too close. I guess during flower they might not be as susceptible, but I don't think I'd want to get any closer than 18" or so on the LA1. I haven't seen any issues whatsoever on any of the others so I think they'll be OK.

Good news is at lights on tonight there wasn't a ton of stretch - everyone but LA1 is still in the safe zone.

Very little stretch tonight so I'm hoping I'm about done. I did a little defol as well so I'm hoping I'll be good on all but the LA1.

What's tricky with the LA1 is that the discoloration from the light burn might be masking other issues. Maybe I'm just being overly cautious since the others are all looking fine, but LA1 has been a unique animal.

Hope you are feeling better, your gals are looking great!, wouldn't worry to much about the tip burn especially on the older leaves.

Are you using the cables that are about 12" long that came with your light? if you are and using all 4, you can eliminate 2 and run them criss-cross and gain 6" of height, or you can measure the mounting tabs and subtract 2" if you are using the clips that were supplied and go to your local sporting goods shop and pick up some 10" 60# fishing leaders and gain a full foot of height from your ratchet carabiner that they hook to.

My gals really shot up while I was gone and my auto water for the coco gals worked great! All and all it was a great mini vacation except for the windshield time!;)

I did not find the old High Times magazines I was looking for but I did find this;
seeds_0031.JPG

Some 35-40 year old seeds that I saved for my outdoor grows way back then...pretty sure they are Panama Red, Maui Wowi, and a Gold strain...Colombian, Acapulco, or possibly Jamaican:lot-o-toke:

I will be putting up a journal tonight or tomorrow that will be a combo of my cloning attempt, finishing my current grow, and trying to pop some of these seeds so keep a eye out...that is if I can figure it out!:surf:

The frost is starting on the LA Confidentials! They have a shorter flower time so I'm not surprised they're the first to show some.

I'm out of town this weekend and going to try watering and leaving the pans full with the runoff on Friday morning before leaving, and then getting back Sunday night for regular watering. I'm hoping they'll be fine. I'm away Friday morning to Monday morning one weekend in August, so this is something of a test to see whether I'll need additional prep for the August weekend, or whether this will be enough to get me through. I'm guessing I'll get through this weekend, but that I'll see enough to tell me I need some additional solution for the August weekend.

What a find! It would be amazing if you could get some of these going again. Who knows, maybe between the sealed darkened bottles and a bit of luck, you'll find some magic. They're incredibly dark looking considering their age - my older bag seeds all had that bleached look.

My issue with the light is space - I don't have enough clearance from the inline fan, nor enough room to move the fan and make any meaningful difference. The 3x3 is a tight squeeze.

I look forward to your journal!

Very nice. I love old seeds! I still have seeds that are 15 years old, in fact my current grow is 10+ year old seeds that i kept in a drawer in a box in a bag in another bag in the garage lol. They still germinate at a rate of 90%.

I see what you mean, the only place to mount the fan is the top...looks like you might be looking for a bigger tent or shorter ladies:thedoubletake:

I have a good feeling about the seeds, I cut one of each in half this morning and they are not dried out, I don't know how they should look but the inside was off-white and kind of wax like.

I ordered some GA3 (Gibberellic Acid) which is supposed to wake up old seeds, so with luck I may be able to pop some:thumb:

Nope, same as fresh seeds. Peat pellet, set it, and forget it. Lol! Or just plant the seed directly in the ground, my personal favorite method.

I wish these would be that easy, I have a feeling these might need some help..when they fail to crack or sprout like I have researched, tossing them in simple soil, watering once a week in the window sill may be the best method!:laughtwo:

Just make sure you try to germ a few not just cut them in half! I almost had a heart attack seeing that pic!
