DobeWan's First Grow! LA Confidential & 24K Gold - LED - 3x3 - Coco

Thanks for the positive comments guys! I look forward to opening the tent every evening, I just hope I can keep them happy for the rest of the ride.

Thought I'd post this over here too:

After 10 days in rockwool my clones don't have any roots popping out of the rockwool yet.

I removed the dome entirely last night and watered the cubes as well as the leaves. This morning there was some droop, but no wilting.

They're about 6 inches from 2 T5s, and the rockwool is moist. Getting 18/6. Temps around 82 at lights on and 73 at lights off.

Should I take any action, like putting the dome back on? Should I keep misting the leaves or just focus on keeping the rockwool damp?I'll feel much better when I know these have rooted and can transplant them to coco!

Keep your cubes moist. I leave the dome on till I see roots. Shouldn't be long now man. A couple more days...
24 hrs light may help as well.

Over in the AUA thread they suggested dome off, but keep the cubes moist - like a seedling basically. Someone recommended 24/0 too.

I'll have a look at 8 and make a call. I'm thinking dome off, check the cubes before I head to work. Tempted to try 24/0 although I'm a little nervous about switching potentially stressing my 2 seedlings a little.

Seedlings are looking good, although a little slower in their progress than those in my first run under LED. These are under 2 T5s at the moment, and I've been thinking of adding 2 more to the fixture - I likely will this weekend. The fixture can handle up to 7 lights.

Looking at the clones at lights on, it feels like they shouldn't be under the dome. They were under it for 10 days. They've had longer times exposed to air in the last few days, and 24 hours since last night. They haven't shown any signs of wilting, only a bit of droop. The stalks are bent but no more than they were the first day they went into the rockwool (I should have staked them immediately), and they're actually solid - I fear if I try to stake them now, I'll end up ripping up roots. 24K #2 (right) stalk looks worse than it is due to the perspective - it's actually about a 60 degree angle from the surface of the rockwool. The tops are both reaching up to the light. The leaves have that kind of wide v at the stem, and they look pretty healthy considering how wilted everything looked on the first day when I didn't have the dome working correctly. The LA #2 leaves (left) took on that gnarled look when they recovered from the initial wilting, and LA2's stems on that lower node look droopy, but actually held into that position as if they were trained when they did that initial recovery. The rockwool was pretty light, so I gave them some water (with 1/8 nutes) to keep them moist. I think the light cubes are a really good sign - suggests the roots are taking the water out of the cubes. Tent humidity is around 55-60%, and again at that lower humidity they're not wilting. All in all, enough evidence to suggest they're drinking from roots, and to talk myself into keeping the dome off.

As for the flower tent, everything is looking great. I've positioned the plants in to try to get some lower tops up to the canopy - we'll see if it works. Only about an inch of growth on LA1 too, so its stretch at least is slowing down.

I saw a root poking through the rockwool on my LA2 clone! 24K2 clone seems to have rooted as well although nothing came through - there are other signs. I decided to put both into solo cups to get that out of the way. LA2 looks noticeably happy this morning. Hopefully 24K2 does soon too. It's surviving, but not yet thriving.

Looks like my second set of plants in flower will indeed be LA2, 24K2, Kushy Kush and Chocolope. Managing height and feeding should be fun! :cheesygrinsmiley: At least it'll force me to create the excel tracker I've been thinking of making.

I have all but LA1 on small containers to boost them a couple of inches. It has helped to even the canopy, and the stretch last night was insignificant.

With LA1 I'm trying to tuck top sites and leaves to get the best exposure. Some of them seem to be benefiting from the additional exposure.

I'm not sure if LA2 is better or worse equipped to yield, but it's definitely the healthier looking plant.

24K1 is as sensitive as ever. Looking great except for the burnt tips. Any suggestions? I've been taking the nutes lower and lower. I think it may be pH sensitivity and the only way I'm even going to solve it completely is to get a RO system.

24K2 is looking awesome. Can't wait to see where it ends up.

Thanks for following along!

Thanks millertm and blaze. I'm really excited about the prospects for 24K2. Worried she'll throw monkey wrenches but loving the potential. If my pheno(s) is as couch lucky as Feral's it'll make a fantastic early start evening option.

I'm really upset that I had problems getting my 24k gold to sprout. Anything that anyone could recommend to help me better germinate next time? Used the paper towel method only thing I can think of is to leave the seed in the cup for more then 2 days maybe 4 days to a week and the put in soil Instead of seed starting and not seeing anything to moving it to a solo cup with ff soil

That sucks Jdub. I'm not sure what to tell you - my 24K Gold germed like anything else (I only germed 2 but they were fine).

This is how I do it, but I'm still a novice. You could always ask in the Ask Us Anything thread?

1. Fold a large number of paper towels over until you have a wallet-sized piece that can fit between 2 small plates
2. Label the paper towel with the strains corresponding to the seeds. Careful not to use something that will run.
3. Place the paper towel on one of the plates, folded over like a wallet
4. Open it up and place the seeds inside, a couple of inches between each
5. Close over the paper towel
6. Water with plain water, ideally distilled, and pHed to the eventual medium (coco - 5.75ish), to the point the paper towel is damp through.
7. Place the second plate over the top of the first, facing down, to form a mini dome
8. Wrap plates in a towel or two to block light and keep humidity in
9. Place in a warm location that can maintain humidity - I like to put it in my entertainment center on top of the receiver.
10. Check several times per day for germination and keep paper towel damp through. Should see germination in 24ish hours.
11. Once the shell opens the seed can be planted, but I like it to come a couple of centimetres out of the shell
12. Watch to ensure the taproot doesn't start rooting to the paper towel. If you leave it too long, it will. In that case, cut out the paper towel around the root and carefully plant it as well. If you separate the root from the paper towel the seed will likely die.

Such beautiful plants Dobe. Nice vibrant green. I need to run some DNA genetics gear again soon. They have long been my favourite breeders.

Thanks Blaze! I'm going to be 3/4 DNA the next time in flower - clones of LA2 and 24K2 and a Chocolope seedling in the veg tent. I love the taste and smell of DNA stuff. How was the Lemon OG Kush? I liked their Super Lemon OG a lot and would definitely grow it.
