DIY Stealth Cab, Hydro, LED & Multiple Strains in Small Space - Oh Boy!

Ahhhh! The good old Beetles song Lucy in the sky... I got ya. I wasn't sure on the strain is why I mentioned the ruderalis. It does bring the auto-flower gene but it is also a very stunted plant. Not knowing the genetic makeup it was worth asking.

It was a good thought, Hose! Your input is always welcome here! :)

Hi Mr. Krip!

Pictures of the PE look great, but I'm sure sorry you've had so many problems germing your Lucy's. I germed two, and they both germinated fine, but one of them has been a bit deformed and funky so far...

Sorry for the bum luck on the Lucy's --- that sucks!

:bong:

Thanks, Bro! We'll give her some time (like the last one) but, unfortunately my newfound experience tells me she'll be getting tossed! :bong:

LUCY, the strain I've heard so much about, is actually a name for Senore El Esdee??? WOW!! Just realized this, this is one of my faves ,both to smoke and breed with....a note, I've had my best luck germing them in 50-50 FFOF & FFLW in cups with a humidity dome..

Correcto! Lucy es Senor El Esdee (con un sex change!) :)

let's face it, seeds dont fall off a plant and land in a rooting cube, no, they hit dirt, get slightly covered, and with just the right moisture, and a strong seed, comes life...most would be surprised at the germination rate if they went and broadcast a bag full of seed in the right location...

What's dirt? I don't have any of that! :)

Hi Mr. Krip. :)

By all means...send an email with pictures, so they can see what your talking about. My Lucy's were 5 of for 5 for spouting. So something happened to yours, I'm sure. OMM :yummy:

Thanks, OMM...I will...I still have some pics of the other Lucy in my gallery, but can't find the one next to the measuring tape. However, the pics I have definately show how small she is relative to the cup she's in and next to the (now harvested and almost completely smoked!) PE seedling.

I figure I'll wait until my next order, then send them the pics. I'm just concerned since everywhere on the site it says they won't discuss germination at all, so I'll be sure to let everyone here know what happens.

Don't know about the 'tude, but Single Seed Ctr has a similar message, and I did send them an email about a whole bum batch I got from them, and it went completely unanswered, I'm guessing because I mentioned "germing" them. FWIW.

On that note, not sure what happens always, but I had a bunch of issues a couple of orders ago where only 1 of about 8 germed. I know it's not me, because in addition to the seeds I bought, I germed a bunch of 3-4 year old bagseed and some 2 1/2 year old bought seed that germed just fine... The only ones that didn't were my pricey new seeds, (only one Blueberry germed). If anyone has any connections at SSC, let me know! In fairness, I've had a lot of success with other orders from them.

That was a bummer... I'm guessing something similar happened to you - you got a bad batch somehow - possibly irradiated somewhere in the process?...

PIC UPDATE

I haven't been able to write much in the last couple of days, but have still be around "Liking" everyone's journals. Here's a quick rundown of what's going on here...

First, I did get the power supply for the LED, but, even though I'm pretty technically capable and understand exactly how to do it, I told BlackStar that I'd be more comforable if they did it.

The reason is that I have an older version of the light and, instead of the power supplies being held in by clips, they're actually "cemented" to the housing. I didn't want to mess up the light by prying out the power supply, then risk them blaming me, so I'm gonna send it in.

Since it will probably take two weeks to get fixed and shipped back to me, and I'm now 5 weeks into flower, I'm gonna keep the LED in the flower chamber, only running 1/2 the lights, along with the supplemental CFL's until they finish.

Then, I'll send the light back for repair and, hopefully launch a new journal and modified setup for the next grow. :grinjoint:

Here's a shot from veg with the Power Skunk seedling on the left, Pineapple Express bonsai mom in the center, and the bonsai's 2-week old clone on the right:

The PS seedling was starting to show a slight N deficiency, which you may be able to just make out from the pic (look on the right side), so I have her a dose of 300PPM grow nutes today:

DSCN06873.JPG

I figured if 300 PPM's was good enough for the seedling, it was good enough for the clone, too. She's got a little yellowing in some tips, but this was her first dose of nutes:

The bonsai is still looking healthy, and I'm getting much better at understanding how to best prune & shape them:

DSCN06893.JPG

Here's the bonsai's most recent clones taken last Friday. Still no roots out of the cubes, but they look healthy & I removed the humidity dome on them today:

And, finally in veg, Little Lucy, appearing healthy, but considering she sprouted almost a week ago now, she's definately both stunted & runted:

Here's some flower shots from today:

Yeah, your experience sounds similar, and like SSC, Attitude states right on their contact form that they won't respond to questions/issues regarding germination, so I'm guessing SSC has a similar policy.

I figure emails and letters leave a trail (and, are somewhat anonymous), so my plan was to place an order and then call them by phone, give a quick explanation, and ask them if they can help.

OMM (I think!) and one other person had mentioned the name "Jodie" at Attitude as being helpful to them, so I'll ask for "Jodie" mention she comes highly recommended for helping with issues, and hopefully she'll help with mine.

Maybe if you call SSC, mention that you sent an email but that you also understand why you didn't get a response, you can get some help by phone?

IMHO, it will just help if there's another order on record they can just add the replacement seeds to!

:goodluck:

Based on some of the other stories here related to "mail order" seed purchases, it looks like the problem with X-rays and other forms of "Scans" that damage the genetic structure of the seeds is far more common than I thought it was!

When my "DutchSeeds" purchase showed distinct signs of being irradiated (dead seeds that never sink in water, germinated seedlings that were slow to sprout and were later found to be deformed etc.) I chalked it up to the amount of security scans this package must have gone through from Holland to California, but it appears that even seeds shipped within the USA are arriving with the same issues.

In light of what is starting to appear as a COMMON problem, I would suggest that anyone buying seeds online scrutinize the return/refund policy of the bank you are dealing with. If they are not willing to stand behind their seeds and offer a refund or replacement guarantee in the event of radiation or other shipping related damage, I would take my business elsewhere.

Kind of makes a good case for clones doesn't it? IF you can get them of course! ;)

QUICK UPDATE & SICK TRICH DEVELOPMENT!

Not too much to update on the veg side. The two week-old clones haven't wilted but still don't have roots showing out of the cubes. I'm anticipating I should see some this weekend. And, there's been almost no change in Lucy. Still small but alive.

The Power Skunk clone is coming along nicely, and although you won't see it in the pic, the fan blowing on her has created a nice firm little stem. Another node or two of growth and I'm gonne give her an Uncle Ben's Topping and turn her into a Bonsai mom. When I do, I'll clone her top and see if I can get a Power Skunk in flower sometime relatively soon!

Here's the Power Skunk:

The Bonsai Mom is doing well and ready to give up more clones, but I'm gonna see if I can let her get a little bigger so she can throw off more clones, if needed:

And, here's her clone that's a few weeks old now and already well rooted:

I'm real excited for the next grow, since I'm gonna be changing things up a little to help increase yield. My plans will remain a surprise until my next journal, but they are well under way! :)

In the mean time, the two Pineapple Express girls in flower just finished their 5th week of bloom. I'm gonna up their PPM's one last time on this weekend's res change, then, next week, we should be ready to start them on Overdrive and start lowering the PPM's till flush.

The tricome development has been just amazing this week! :yummy:

I have to say that the fully cured PE buds from last harvest, which are now almost gone, are just fantastic! I really do love this strain and it looks like this round's harvest will be even better.

Here's some shots I took of her trichs a few minutes ago:

VERY nice MR K.!! You got me all twittered thinking about what surprise may behold us in your next journal!! Not sure if I told you, but all that info on bonsai(ing) has me really excited! I'll have to do some real work to make it happen, but the bonsai and breeding concept have had me reeling for quite a while. I've already been semi-obsessed with the idea of making seeds, and breeding, but now I'm stoked!....How's about I just let you lead the way you 'ol pioneer!:high-five:

Is this your second run of PE? Looks nice. More frosty than mine. Are you using secret ingredients?

Twelve, yes, I harvested the Mother to the two PE's currently in flower a couple of months ago. Those were the pic's a linked on your journal earlier today!

My "secret" ingredient is Emerald Triangle's "Snow Storm Ultra".

I haven't done any side-by-side experiments for comparison, but I've had such success with using it, and it's so low cost when used only as a foliar, I just keep it in my regime.

Thanks, Quix! Yeah, that "Bonasi Sultan Method" has had my mind spinning, too! Unfortunately, the next grow is NOT the breeding program, but it should get me a step or two closer to it. So, I'm happy to offer you my "Daniel Boone Cap" if you'd like to be the pioneer on this one! :)

Talk about a snow storm Mr. Krip......you have one! :)

OK! Since your still alive.....I'll use my Snow Storm Ultra as a foliar next grow.:thanks:

Oh yeah! I'm still alive & doing well! I do have this 3rd arm now growing out of my back, but I'm pretty sure it's no the SSU! :)

No doubt! You've got some SERIOUS trichome action going on with those flowers Mr. K! :thumb: Especially considering that you still have a few weeks to go before harvest time right? Do you usually chop around week 8 with that strain?
