DIY Stealth Cab, Hydro, LED & Multiple Strains in Small Space - Oh Boy!

Just lurking in the background, Mr. Krip. Lots of fresh pistils would suggest that you have many weeks to go. BTW, how are the temps in the grow space. At a glance, it would appear that heat could be a stressor.

Munki, thanks for the input! It's not too bad in Flower...about 84*F which is a little warmer than I'd prefer, but I don't believe (maybe incorrectly?) that its causing any stress.

I hope it's not too many weeks, cuz' like I said, she's been in flower for about 110 days now, but I'm willing to wait it out, if needed. She is on a water diet/flush right now. Do you think I should I go back to some nutes?

TRAGEDY STRIKES - ROOKIE ERROR!

I'm sorry to report that tragedy has struck in the veg chamber due to my being semi-numb from the neck up!

I was checking the girls over the weekend and noticed the huge hempy haze mom was a little droopy. Keep in mind, that last week I moved her to a larger hempy. She looked like she needed some water, so I gave her some more nutes. By yesterday, she looked like she was dying! :thedoubletake:

So, I pulled her out of the cab, and started checking her out, and here's where I screwed up pretty badly...

Her new hempy is a 2.5 gal bucket that I sat in another 2.5 gal bucket to catch the run-off. This worked perfectly on the smaller hempy's without taking up too much additional space. But, the smaller hempys were two different kinds of containers that didn't "nest" tightly and left plenty of space for drainage.

With the larger hempy, the outside container was too snug and preventing the water from draining from the hempy.

So, yesterday, I have her two Clearex flushes and refilled with a 1/2 strenght nute solution. I let the run-off drain for a couple of hours before putting her back in veg. She still looks like crap today, and I'll post some pics later, but this is a mistake I'm sure not to make again any time soon!

I was planning on putting her into flower once the waterfarm haze was harvested, but at this point, I'll be happy if she lives, which is really horrible cuz' she was healthy, huge & beautiful just a few days ago.

Luckily, one of the two clones I took has rooted very nicely (I tossed the other that had wilted) so I'm still going to try to keep the strain going for another grow or two.

damn sounds like an easy mistake, that sucks.. hope she comes back around.. im havin problems myself, im startin to see little tiny tiny balls on like 3 of my best plants, i hope i get atleast one female soo i can make clones atleast, never done it but i gotta start somewhere, just like i've never topped or fimmed and look at me now, 2 of my plants already have 12 tops and their not even big yet, been toppin and fimmin like crazy, i've been cuttin every new growth and they come back everytime as 2.. lovin it!!!!

No. Thing is I still see fresh pistils which is pretty weird for that long of a flower time. If you can muster it, I'd recommend cutting back the light cycle ... maybe 10 on, 14 off. This will help signify to the plant that winter is approaching. Your strain may think that a constant 12/12 with 84 degrees F temp is not "finishing weather". The reduced light period would help kick it in the pants. Also, ensure that the dark period is COMPLETELY DARK.

Oh no! What a bummer Mr. Krip - that really sucks. Sending you positive vibes in hopes of a really big recovery. Hang in there - hopefully she'll pull through. Congrats on the clone...

Man, that sucks when stuff like that happens. I've been there. All that love, and then this. :goodluck:

Really great suggestions Munki. :thumb:

There's a reason I sub to your journal, Munki, and it's for nuggets of wisdom like this. (And those great looking plants!)

Nicely done, and +rep for the great suggestions you gave brother Kripster.

Sorry for your troubles Bro, but great growers always recover, and you are definitely a great grower, and getting better all the time, not to mention you listen well and know how to pick the cream info from the low fat that gets us all in trouble from time to time...

:peace:

Munki, that's a great idea! +Reps!

I'm guessing the PE won't mind the extra dark as long as she's getting a full 12 hours (or more) of uninterrupted dark, she should stay in flower and NOT hermie, right? The PE is only a week into flower and the cab is definiately light proof.

Thanks MacG! I appreciate that, but actually I do consider myself knowledgable, but at least a few harvests from even being experienced, let alone great.

It's all in the difference between reading the info and growing the plants, and my latest mis-hap is a perfect example. I had the knowledge that the hempys needed to drain well, but not the experience to tell me that the buckets could be too snug and not allow it to drain well! Again, a mistake I'm not likely to make again any time soon. :)

:420: provides a fantasic forum to learn from other truly great growers who've already made and learned from many of the same mistakes. I imagine I have a lot more mistakes to make before I become "great" but the compliment is certainly appreciated!
:thankyou:

If it's any consolation, Mr. Krip, I nearly lost my NL auto sprouts on Sunday. It was purely a rookie error too.

I had the sprouts in 1" rockwool cubes, and set them on the soil surface of another pot. I had no idea that rockwool transfers water as well as it holds it. I came back 2 hrs later to find the little buggers wilted over, the cubes bone dry, and the soil beneath the cubes now held the moisture.

Three days later, they seem to have grown a little, but they are still green, :phew: and I learned something too. Almost reminds me of a Fat Albert & the Cosby Kids episode...

Attitude is half the battle, and learning from experience requires not only a great attitude, but the will to turn mistakes into future accomplishments.

The more time I spend on these journals and reading tons of info the more I learn that reading and study is all good, but getting your hands in the dirt, so to speak, is what it's really all about and hella fun!:)

My harvest is complete. They are in day 5 of drying and I hope that will continue for awhile.

I can't speak to younger plants in the flower room as I have not done staggered harvests from one continuously running. I'd still say give it a shot as you have a lot of energy committed to that older plant, so it is worth more to get it done.

Well, I'm not the kinda guy that feels better because you had problems, too, but I guess it's good not to feel like the only bonehead in the room! :)

However, if it makes you feel any better, some things kept me away from the grow room for a day, and I think the one good clone I had of the haze is a gonner too, from a dried out cube. I should have moved to the hempy, decided I'd wait a day, and then couldn't make it back in time to mist the cube...Oh well! RoorRip

Thanks, MacG! Nice job on the HUGE harvest! :bravo:

I'm glad I don't have to trim that!!! :welldone:

Munki, thanks....I actually reduced the lights by an hour a day starting a couple of days ago when you gave me that great advice.

My understanding is that for the plants to flower, and not hermie, they need 12 hours of uninterrupted dark. Interrupting the light is no problem, but the dark period needs to be dark. So, my assumption is simply that by losing an hour of light a day on the PE, I'm expecting about 8% slower development but not any real problems.

Pics coming as soon as I upload them and, again, appreciate the input!

PRE-WEEKEND FLOWER UPDATE

I apologize again for lack of updates over last few days, but life has been challenging as of late and keeping me from fun.

Here's a peak into the flower side today:

IMAGE_813.jpg

It does look like the haze has continued to pack on weight this week. It occurred to me that one of the "signs" to harvest was to wait about a week after the buds stopped packing on weight. This was a mistake I made. I really gauged the difference in development between the AK and the haze, considered the timeline, and estimated the harvest date instead of letting the plant tell me what she needed. So, I've most likely cut off her nutes a little too soon, but when she's ready, she should certainly be well-flushed! :)

Here's some of her colas:

And some bud close-ups:

IMAGE_821.jpg

When I checked her under a scope, the trichs look about 25% amber, which is a little deceiving, since it would appear she has at least another week or two to go. But, I don't want to miss the "window", so just to be safe....

SAMPLE TIME!!!! :yahoo:

I cut a small bud:

And trimmed it up:

Here's a couple of shots of the trimmed bud with better lighting:

So...that's quick-drying now, and hopefully it will give me a better idea of when to harvest her.

The PE is looking good, still in her first week of flower:

Happy Harvests!

Well I can see I'm WAAAAY late to this party! 80 pages is some reading! Hope you dont mind me dropping in Mr. K., just thought with all the time I'm saving now I'd cruise around and show some love in others' journals. Hope you find yourself well, and I'll do some skimming to get caught up. Will you be doing another run in the near future??:peacetwo:
