DIY Stealth Cab, Hydro, LED & Multiple Strains in Small Space - Oh Boy!

BROTHER BLUE WAS RIGHT! (DID YOU EVER DOUBT?) :)

Hey Mr. Krip! Sorry the weight was low but I don't think there was much you could have done, they are what they are. Growing right next to my ak which was just solid buds, the bagseed, lucy & the bubba kush were all airy too. I think it's the genetics of the seed you got, or it wasn't totally happy with the environment...

I'm VERY happy to report, you were correct, Blue!

I was checking on the girls and noticed one of the haze's smaller lower buds resting against the wall of the cab. I tried to adjust it to get some space between the wall, but it just sprang back into position.

Well, I didn't want to risk budrot and since we're only two weeks from harvest, I figured it was a good time to start taking samples, so I clipped her.

It was a small bud from a lower branch:

So, I trimmed it up:

And, it was obvious that this was a real nice, dank & DENSE bud just covered in trichs. VERY different than the airy buds harvested on the AK.

I was so impressed I had to grab a flashlight to give you a better picture of what it looks like under some better light:

I haven't sampled it yet - it's drying right now, but the buds do smell fantastic! Very floral/skunky as opposed to the hashy/diesely smell of the AK.

So, some very good news is that there appears to be no issues with the LED light for flower! :yahoo:

Some more good news is that it looks like the haze will have some very nice nugs.
However, the bad news is that it means that, most likely, the AK pheno I have is cursed and, although I wouldn't guarantee it, it would be a pretty safe bet that if/when I grow out her clone (the hempy AK), it will have airy buds, too.

So, once again, I've been forced to re-think my grow strategy.

I'm now soaking some rockwool cubes so I can take clones of the haze this weekend. As much as I hate the extended flowering time, if the meds are as good as she looks & smells, I may have to grow some sativa for a while! :)

In addition to my left-over PE seeds, I do have ONE Lucy seed, a Big Band, and a Power Skunk seed left, but I'd like to keep some of these strains going with clones for a while, so for now, it looks like it's gonna be the PE and the Haze.

More updates soon & happy harvests!

K

P.S. Blue, you're my hero! :adore:

That's great news Mr Krip :woohoo:

If I were you I'd try defoliating the hell out of that ak clone at 21 days of flower and see if that helps the buds tighten up any. But in general I unfortunately agree with you, she's going to be pretty much just like her momma.

SettingSun did a side by side of an HPS and LED PPP grow and they were pretty much identical... so it's definitely not the light. They had big fat hard colas and it's why I ordered a PPP seed.

Can't wait for your smoke report, I've never knowingly smoked a sativa. :peace:

Thanks again, Blue. If/when I grow out the clone, I'll definately be MUCH more agressive on the defoliation. But, with these other strains around, I have a hunch she's gonna get culled soon. :ganjamon:

WEEKEND PIC UPDATE

I spent a lot of quality time with the girls today.

First, I transplanted the Hempy Haze to a 2.5 gallon hempy bucket, gave her a SERIOUS thinning out, and took a couple clones from her. She's gonna go into flower in a couple of weeks when I harvest the Waterfarm Haze.

Here she is after the transplanting and thinning:

IMAGE_754.jpg

And, here's her two clones:

IMAGE_755.jpg

The four PE clones are doing great, but I'm gonna need to cull a couple of those eventually to make some room:

IMAGE_756.jpg

And, last in veg is the AK clone that, as I mentioned to Blue, will probably get culled since her mom had some realy airy, but potent, buds:

IMAGE_757.jpg

So, now here's what the veg side is lookng like:

IMAGE_753.jpg

The PE in flower just had her 2nd night of 12/12, so not much change to report yet. It's tough to get her complete picture since I did the LST cuz' now part of her is hidden behind the Haze:

I did the final nute change on the Waterfarm Haze today. Next weekend will be a Clearex flush followed by a straight water diet until chop. She's really starting to feed on herself, now, and I keep cursing myself for all the time I talked about tossing her to make more room for the AK. She smells awesome and she has some of the most gorgeous buds I've ever seen. I still haven't tried that sample bud, but that's scheduled for tomorrow. :grinjoint:

Here's three of her larger colas that are all tied to the bamboo stake:

Here's a couple of her "mid-sized" colas:

And, here are those gorgeous buds I was referring to:

Happy Harvests!

She's awesome Mr Krip! You shoulda pitched the AK to give her more room lol. Too bad she goes so long but what can you do, she's worth the wait. I still see a sog in your future, you could have a few of those taking forever while you've got other shorter finishing strains too. It amazes me how many plants you guys can cram into those cabs... :goodjob:

Nice pictures, as usual Mr. Krip!:)

The replacements are looking good too. Do your thumbs glow green at night?
They must. I'll be growing an AK soon, hope it doesn't take forever like yours.
Still don't know what's up with that?

Any how, things are looking great! :yahoo:

^These good guys said it well^ :bravo:

Beautiful plants and pics my man :high-five:. It would be interesting to see you do a hempy/waterfarm comparison grow with some of those PE's clones :). It, in no way, has anything to do with the fact that I'm growing PE's and want to see the best way to grow them... no way at all . I'll do the soil test!

GREAT JOB! :adore:

Blue, I agree with EVERY sentence in that post! :thumb:

Thanks, OMM! I'm hoping they start glowing green cuz then I can work in the flower cab at night with just my thumbs for lighting! :)

I hope your AK not only takes a lot shorter to finish, but also gives you some much denser nugs! :goodluck:

That being said, they are curing very nicely...actually much more noticable a difference than I anticipated, with this being my first harvest/cure.

The chlorophyl taste is gone. They smell on the hashy/diesely side, but once they're broken up, it changes to a piney/diesely smell. Taste is smoothing out and the high is fantastic. I'm looking forward to seeing what another couple of weeks does!

That would be a good test! It appears to me, without any "scientific" testing, that the waterfarm plants mature much quicker than the hempy's and ultimately cost less on nutes and, IMHO, are a little easier to maintain.

The waterfarms can get a res change every week or two while the hempys need topping off every couple of days, although, I think watering the hempys is easier (for me!) than changing the waterfam res's due to the size of my cab.

However, I'm finding that due to the size of the veg cab, it may be tough to get a waterfarm back in there with all those other plants.

I'm thinking about moving to a "staggered" harvest, which is essentially, what I'm doing now. So, when the PE is about four weeks in flower, I'll move the next plant in, then when the next plant is about 4-5 weeks into flower, it's be time to harvest the PE and move in another plant. This way, I can harvest every 4-6 weeks, or so, and I don't have two huge plants in the cab at the same time. When one is ready to harvest, the other will only be about 4-5 weeks in flower, which is still post-stretch, but at least not with all the buds fighting for light & space.

This is good info! I've been trying to come up with a schedule of perpetual sorts, this gives a helping foundation!

OK Mr, I figured it out... build a bigger cab .

Love the staggered harvest idea, and as far as the test, just wait for the smoke test and do what you do :thumb:

Always a pleasure to read the Kripipedia and see the Kripileaks :).
:high-five:

Hey Mr. K! Sounds like you've got some great smoke and some kriptastic ideas for a perpetual. But, alas, I'm confused about something I'm probably just a bit too high to recall -- are you sticking with the waterfarms or just hempies? Or... just waterfarms? I probably just confused myself. If so, carry on!

As you know I just built my little DIY bucket with airstone in the bottom and the waterfarm plumbing kit - I'm so in love with that little thing already! It seems like the combination of drip/DWC is pretty effective at least for the stage I'm in (early veg). I'm definitely going to make more of those at some point if it continues to work so good. I'm just worried a bit about res changes on them when the plants get big - is it as difficult/tricky as I'm imagining?

Take care K!

Thanks, DIME! I had considered staggered harvests on my first grow, but someone recommended I grow them at the same time so I didn't have to maintain two seperate nute schedules and risk screwing things up. This was probably good advice, but I think I'll be able to handle the nute schedules without any issues, especially considering it's only two plants I need to track.

Kripileaks and Kripipedia are hard at work to bring you the best info on MMJ cultivation and worship!

Hi Mr. Krip. :)

Love the smoke report.......sounds really great! :)

I see no problems with the plan to do a continual harvest, if fact it sounds like a really good idea! :high-five:

Thanks, OMM! I am very happy on the smoke and yield for a first harvest which was a little over 79 g. dried in total. Although the buds are a little airy, 79g's is 79g's and it's definately potent.

Now that it's been curing, the taste keeps improving and I've started "dipping in" pretty regularly! :grinjoint:

I was going to post these pics in my upcoming update, but since I have plenty of pics to update and you mentioned it, here's the bud I've been sampling yesterday and today (again, I had to use a flashlight to get some of the details visible):
