DIY Stealth Cab, Hydro, LED & Multiple Strains in Small Space - Oh Boy!

Hey Mr. K! Sounds like you've got some great smoke and some kriptastic ideas for a perpetual. But, alas, I'm confused about something I'm probably just a bit too high to recall -- are you sticking with the waterfarms or just hempies? Or... just waterfarms? I probably just confused myself. If so, carry on!

As you know I just built my little DIY bucket with airstone in the bottom and the waterfarm plumbing kit - I'm so in love with that little thing already! It seems like the combination of drip/DWC is pretty effective at least for the stage I'm in (early veg). I'm definitely going to make more of those at some point if it continues to work so good. I'm just worried a bit about res changes on them when the plants get big - is it as difficult/tricky as I'm imagining?

Take care K!

Hey, XLR8! First, let me tell you again that my thoughts are truly with you on the basement flood issue! I'm glad I could at least bring a smile to your face with my post. I was hoping you woudn't take the joke wrong but knew you had read enough of my posts to get my sense of humor! :)

I have NO intentions of abandoning the waterfarms and, I agree with you, the plants just love them. But, since I have only two waterfarms, and numerous plants & clones in a very limited space, hempy will need to stay part of the equation. Now, that I have the multiple plants in veg and have been starting them in the hempys, I just need to figure out how I get the Waterfarms back in the loop! :grinjoint:

I think part of the answer is in getting down to two strains and the staggered harvests. This will give me better control of when to take the clones and how long they veg.

On the first grow, I was given the clones, just as the PE seed was sprouting. So, the PE and hempy haze were both vegging for over two months while the waterfarms were in flower. By the time the AK was harvested, BOTH the PE and Haze were just too tall to put in the waterfarms.

So, the plan now is to flower one plant at a time and maintain the PE and the Haze. Each strain will essentially get its own Waterfarm for flowering.

The way I'll handle this (or, today's plan to handle it!) is:

- A week or two (depending on flowering times) after the PE goes into flower in WF#1, I'll take some clones from the haze and start them in hempys.

- Then, when the haze clones are four weeks old, I'll transplant the best one into WF#2 and move it flower.

- A week or two later, I'll start clones from the PE in hempys.

- Four weeks later, I'll harvest the PE from WF#1 and move the best PE clone to WF#1 and put WF#1 back into flower.

- A week or two later, it's time to start haze clones in hempys.

- From there, it's just "wash, rinse, & repeat"!

Res changes are not that bad, at all, and IMHO beats replacing a 35 gallon res. Some tips are:

1) If your buckets are elevated, you can use the drain tube to drain into a waste bucket, then just refill the nutes through the top.

2) You can also set the lid on an "extra" bucket while you clean and refill the original bucket.

The only "setbacks" I see to the Waterfarms is that they're not really conducive to doing a SCROG unless option #1 above is viable for res changes. And, especially because I run higher temps, I am very religious about maintaining a clean system, so every week when I do res changes, I also pull and disassemble the drip tube and soak it in bleach, then rinse thoroughly. I would say that it's this drip ring maintenance that's the biggest PITA, but as you noticed, the plants love it and we all do crazy things to see our plants happy! :)

PIC UPDATE:

I figured I'd wait a few days between pic updates so I wasn't "overdoing it" on the pics, but so much has been changing, its just resulting in more to update!

OK...so a few posts ago, I posted the pics of the sample AK bud from the batch that's curing now. It's not the most flavorful bud, but certainly not harsh or homegrown tasting and the effects are top notch! :thumb:

It's caused me to create a new term for smoking my own home cultivated meds. I call it "getting Krippled" and wish you all could come by for a good Krippling! :grinjoint:

Here's what the flower side looks like today:

The big news to report is that, after only a handful of days of 12/12, today marks Day #1 of flower for the PE! :yummy:

It's a little tough to see the small hairs in the pics, but she's now starting to throw off some pistils:

The Haze is about ready to harvest. In fact, over the last couple of days I had been contemplating moving her to a flush right away, instead of waiting until the weekend, so I could harvest a little earlier than planned. But, I didn't want to cut off the Overdrive and know I can flush in 3-4 days using Clearex, so I've opted to wait. But, her buds are looking great and she's really been using up the stored nutes so now has a lot of brown leaves.

Here's the cola shots:

Kripileaks, Kripipedia, Krippled....

the only thing that can stop you now is Kriptonite :cheer::cheer::cheer:

Nice one Blue!

Next journal --- wait for it... wait for it... "Tales from the Kript"

Thank you so much for the tips on the waterfarm buckets Mr. Krip - really appreciated, and +rep if I can (but I'm guessing I've repped you too recently).

Also, I appreciate your thoughts in regard to my recent setback. Like I mentioned in one of my posts -- I'll just get another X-mas, hopefully this time without a Grinch at the end! :)

Posting it here first, I actually just spotted female pre-flowers on my little auto! Surprised, but I guess it's right timing-wise, it's not her fault she's a bit stunted. Doh!

Edit: Nice plan on your perpetual, btw, and dammit, it won't let me +rep you again yet...

Not overdoing pics???....YOU???

You are like me... A bit of a pic whore :). I say post em as often as you feel like, mainly because they are awesome and I love seeing the "Pink Beast"... Get your mind out of the gutter Mr. ;)

Great work and I'm lovin the plans you laid out! :thumb:

Thanks, XLR8! No problem on the WF tips and I appreciate the +reps! Congrat's on the pre-flowers! Looks like we'll have another harvest together soon! :high-five:

Nice job Mr. Krip! Glad to see you getting some relief from all your hard work!:thumb:

Thanks, MacG! I am quite relieved! :grinjoint:

Although, I have to admit that it's at least as much fun as it is work!

I'm hung on post 1159. That just looks great. My address is...... :Rasta:

Thanks, OMM! Not bad for a "first-timer", huh? :)

It looks like the haze might be even better! :yummy:

I'm happy to share with you but you need to make it here. Then, I can meet you out there for a Lucy Luau! :grinjoint:

Hey, I was young and I really needed the money!

Oh...you mean "pic whore" as in I like POSTING the plant pics...sorry...I thought you were talking about something else!

WEEKEND PIC UPDATE

Happy Memorial Day weekend to everyone. In addition to our soldiers and veterans, I'd also like to take a moment of silence to remember our good friends who've fallen in battle here on 420....:roorrip:

OK...Update time!

I gave the WF Haze a 30 minute final flush with 20ml/gal. of Clearex then did a final res change to straight PH'd water.

While she was getting flushed, I snapped a couple shots of the PE, who already looks like she's taking up the whole flower side of the cab and now has me wondering if I'll be able to sqeeze in the hempy haze in a couple more weeks.

Here's the PE enjoying the flower chamber herself:

IMAGE_795.jpg

I supercropped a couple of her colas to try to keep her height in control:

IMAGE_796.jpg

Her bud sites are now much more visible than a few days ago and popping up all over the place:

Here's the two plants back in flower after the haze got her flush:

IMAGE_806.jpg

As for the haze, in some respects, she really looks ready to harvest, but in others, it seems she could use more time.

She's got lots of browning & yellowing leaves going on:

IMAGE_802.jpg

And, her colas look nice and fat, but I would have expected a higher percentage of red pistils and the white pistils haven't been fully absorbed into the larger buds, so we'll see what the next week brings, but I may end up flushing for longer than just a week.

Here's the rest of her photo shoot:

Just lurking in the background, Mr. Krip. Lots of fresh pistils would suggest that you have many weeks to go. BTW, how are the temps in the grow space. At a glance, it would appear that heat could be a stressor.

Nice and fat - woo hoo!

IMAGE_804.jpg

Looks like it needs more time, but it's getting there. :thumb:

Thanks, XLR8! I agree, she does look like she needs more time, which is pretty amazing, since she's been in 12/12 something like 110 days now!
