DIY Stealth Cab, Hydro, LED & Multiple Strains in Small Space - Oh Boy!

That ak is a beast Mr. Krip! You're gonna love the yield from her.

The good thing about flowering 2 plants is you have a choice of which to keep or try to keep both, if you only have one and something happens or she's a runt you're kinda stuck.

Blue, this is true. Having two does "hedge the bets". And, it's not an issue taking another clone to grow another plant, so not like spending $20 on a seed that you can't take full advantage of. My point was purely regarding maximizing potential yield in my space configuration. Although, perhaps a 6 plant SOG in 2 liter bottles would be best, so I may try that at some point, once I get a little more growing experience.

There we go again with the thought process similarity, I'm leaned so far towards a SOG next grow I should just lay down. :)

I'd say you are more than ready sir.

LOL...thanks for the kind words DIME, and please, lay down before you fall over! :laughtwo:

I built the cab with the intention of only flowering one plant at a time, and hoping to get 2-4 oz. of high quality meds per harvest, for personal use only. So far, for the first grow, it looks like I'll fall somewhere in middle of that range, so I can't complain at all.

It's interesting (for lack of a better word!) how all of us growers are constantly re-examining our rooms, equipment, and techniques, always trying to make it just a little better and squeeze out another .001 g/watt from the next grow!

If you lollipoped 6 plants you could expect to yield between 3 and 6 ounces in a sog, if I have read correctly in the past. What do you think you could yield with just one plant in there?

Actually, about the same. But, I'd have to veg a lot longer (which really isn't an issue at all, since I'm in a perpetual setup) and if I lost the plant do to some issue, I'd lose the whole crop.

I haven't calculated nute costs, but I suspect they'd be lower with one plant in the Waterfarm (weekly res changes on 2 gallons of nutes) than it would be with topping off 6 2 l. hempys every two days or so.

I will have better information at the end of this grow. The one concern I have with growing the bigger plants is the LED I'm using for flower.

While I believe the LED is proving effective, the big question is how far it will penetrate into the canopy, which is why I added the CFLs that originally were intended to side-light one single plant, but with lack of side space, are now supplementing the top-lighting for both plants.

So far, I'm pretty impressed with the LED, and I have some nice big colas, but the next few weeks will tell how well these buds really develop. I may find that, using the LED, I MUST keep the plants shorter to get effective use of the light.

Hi Mister Krip. :surf:

To me it sounds like you have thought of all the possible scenarios for what you can actually do. Just my opinion, but I would do what returns the best yield.
The heck with anything else. :high-five:

Thanks, OMM! That's exactly my plan! Just trying to see how to maximize yield, but whichever way wins, is the way I'm going.

BTW, I thought that surfer might be you, but for some reason, I picture you on a longboard! :)

A long time ago yes!:surf:

PIC UPDATE

It's been 54 days of 12/12 for the AK and as much as I was hoping to be able to start my "3-week countdown" to harvest this weekend, I think I'm gonna end up waiting another week.

So, according to the breeder, she should be done in two weeks but I think it's gonna be at least four.

She's definately got some pistils starting to turn amber, but she still has a lot of big white pistils showing and hasn't really started feeding on herself yet.

Here's another pic giving an idea of how big she is right now:

And, here's a bunch of her different cola buds. Please let me know if you agree I should wait an extra week on the Overdrive, giving four more weeks (or more) to harvest:

Yes...all those are different colas, and that's not all of them, but it is a good representation. :)

Here's the close-up bud shots looking nice & frosty:

They're due for another SSU foliar tomorrow, then res changes on Saturday. But, unless there's any real disagreement and you guys feel differently, I'm gonna wait until next weekend (hopefully!) to start the Overdrive.

Thanks for everyone's help & happy harvests!

Hi Mr Krip. :surf:

From the pictures, I don't see many cloudy, I think your doing the right thing, waiting another week. Probably asked you this before, but do you have a microscope? They have a good one at Radio Shack for 20 bucks. Then you could be sure when they are ready. :surf:

I think you would be ok to wait another weekor so before starting your overdrive. It looks like you still have a lot of white pistils.

Ahh, the "dope-scope" It's only around $10, I just picked one up yesterday, accidentally smashed old one. Blended right into the carpet, I swear it was camo'd in. I agree with Oldmedman, they still do look clear. Good call on waiting an additional week.

OMM...yes, I have a microscope and I'm really not worried about being able to tell when they're ready. I need to be able to tell when they're THREE WEEKS BEFORE being ready.

I have to change nutes two weeks before the week of flush.

So, I know they're not ready now, but by NOT changing the nutes this weekend, I'm basically saying that it will be MORE than THREE more weeks before they are ready.

Beautiful Krip... beautiful. :goodjob:

I particularly like the AK that resembles the Transamerica pyramid in SF. They're all filling in very well and time is being kind. The AK certainly does like to make a late and flamboyant arrival to the party! It's been great seeing how all the late filling and fattening occurs. Just when you think things are great... they get better. I can't help but think about how our grows will be doing in year's time. More learning, more yield. :thumb:

Yeah...I have a similar one I picked up real cheap on eBay, but it's not easy to take pic's thru so I'll probably pick up one of those, too, to see if I can pics any easier.

Hey Mr K!

I dug these pics up last night and then forgot to post them oops!

I've been thinking for a while now that our ak's don't really look that alike. Mine never had tons of cola leaves or pistils, mostly just buds on buds. I don't know if we have different phenos, or it's an environment thing but yours has always looked more like most of my other plants have.

Still I think you're on the right track and can't wait to see how the harvest turns out.

Thanks, WnF! Yeah...she definately has me on my toes trying figure out her timing but enjoying the show the whole way! :)

I'm hoping to do 4 harvests this year with the perpetual grow going, so in another year, we should both be experts in the field! :high-five:

Thanks, Brother Blue! I agree...they don't really look alike. At first, I just thought it was because you had basically one big cola and I LST'd the sh!t out of mine. But you're right...you really don't have any cola leaves on yours and I have a TON on mine.

That being said, I keep referring back to page #37 of my journal (the only page that I know what I'm gonna find!) to see the pics of your AK. Those have been EXTREMELY helpful as I keep deciding to wait another week before starting the Overdrive.

If not for them, I'd probably be stressing about possibly harvesting too late, but knowing what to look for and the amount of time yours took, I'm doing just fine! :surf:

:thanks:
