DC’s Roaring 20’s Perpetual Garden!

Aren’t those little scopes fun? See all kinds of wild, whacky shit. :cheesygrinsmiley:

I’ve been doing a lot of digging myself. All kinds of stuff from pH balance to EC at what stage and so on. I need to see what all the calmag is doing to the EC, then what MC adds (and if it’s inline with their feeding chart or not. I know what the end result is, and it’s pushing a 2.5EC which is way too high I think for a 5g/gal dose of MC. That means probably too much calmag, which may in turn not be causing a deficiency but a lockout.

I know @bluter has fought a very similar battle, but I’m not sure off the top of my head whether he solved it or not.

Thanks guys and sorry I haven't been by to any of your journals, hoping to slow down a bit maybe by August lol!

Yeah I seemed to fight this same looking issue right from the start, then it was nothing but green for the rest of veg once I dialed the MC back. I stayed at 5g per gallon into like Week 4 or 5 of flower until I started to lose a ton of lower leaves and some yellowing at which point I went to 5.5 then 6 then up to 6.5 and back. Perhaps I ramped up too quick in Ernest to stop it that I overdid it? It was also a challenge to have 2 different strains on the same feeding system. It'll definitely take some more experimenting, and was likely due to my errors but I wish I could at least know what the specific issue was be it calcium or magnesium deficiency or excesses causing lockout. To me most of the deficiencies / excesses look so close to the same except a couple obvious signs.

Either way the buds are looking nice, frosty and very chunky so I am quite happy but it's hard not to get down by wondering how / if they'd be even better!

Yellow between veins was shown at start combined with brown/rusty spotting, followed by brown edges and tips and widespread yellowing that turned to brown dry leaves Usually upward curling leaves. Majority of issues started on top most large fan leaves. Leaves outside of main light and lower mostly unaffected. Lights were at 12 to 13" from plant from end of stretch on until I ended up raising them 4" or so and temps never exceeded 75.

These pics show early onset:

Heading into Week 10, keeping a close eye on them. Still feeding GH nutes at about half strength. Got some good pics of some winners, check out the icing!

I did the same thing and went back to the basics, although it’s lipstick on the pig at this point. With a week or two left to go, it’s more getting them to the end and verifying a few suspicions.

5 / 7 plants are still looking real good so I had to do something before they started as well. The other two may not be pretty anymore but the buds are massive still, they might’ve just been much hungrier.

I think I have enough left to get through the swell. So far my suspicions are pretty much confirmed (good enough for my mind anyway.) First, something in my MC mix just doesn’t want to play nice. I’m not sure what, but my old trio mix has me at a steady 5.7, and 1.7EC instead of 2.5EC. After calmag, I was at 0.25EC, so 1.45 of that is the rest of the mix.

Second, is that the EC with MC was higher. Maybe not detrimentally so, but in this case I think something locks something else out. Whether that’s through strength or what, I’m not sure.

I also switched the single bucket in my 3x3. As she’s just in her 4th week, I think that’s still soon enough to see if maybe for what I’ve been running that it’s just too much. I also am trying to make sure to give a little more calmag in veg than I would have been. I had been matching in ml of calmag as I was feeding grams of MC. Now in veg and the first 2 weeks from flip it will be 5ml/gal and then backing down to 2.5ml/gal for the remainder.

Gotta watch the pH this week still, but maybe I'll be surprised.

The End is Nigh!

Hey all! Another belated update and very close to the last one of this chapter! This week I harvested a plant or two a night on Mon - Fri. Two of seven were trimmed the traditional way branch by branch and hung from a string. The other five were my preferred method of whole plant harvest which encourages a nice slow dry.

The whole plants will hang in the grow room at 65-70% RH, which is easy thanks to the humidity we are having and should result in at least 8-10days before jars which I’ll aim to capture at 70% and burp down to 60 - 62%.

The string lined ones are coming down today, after a couple days hanging, and I’m going to try the paper bag in the fridge method to extend their dry time! I’ll draft up a post this week with lessons learned from this grow! Ive also held off on the next crop to take a few weeks to really get everything setup perfectly in my new grow room.

Without further ado, pics or it didn’t happen!

@MrSauga do you mind linking the fridge dry method for me? I believe you have a guide bookmarked?

This is the method I use. It's tried and true and has not let me down. Remember and try not to let the paper bags touch the back(sides) of a self defrosting fridge. Thee paper will absorb the condensate and of course become wet.

DC, the new grow room is very nice, room to spread out. Congrats on the excellent harvest.

I have awful, terrible news to report. After 10 hours of work at my job, followed by 6 hours of work at my rental unit to get ready for new tenants I got home at midnight and quickly checked up on my drying buds....

I don’t even know how to express how demoralized I am by finding mould. It’s my own fault, the room is too cool and too humid, I’ve been too busy and have a half completed grow room setup. Also the girls were in too high of humidity in their last couple weeks of life with a summer heat wave.

After feeling sorry for myself for a few minutes and staring in disbelief, I poured a big glass of wine because I ran out of beer, sparked up a FATTY and buckled in. I carefully inspected each and every cola hanging, and removed around 5 different branches I detected mould. The two plants I found with infected colas were some of the whole plant hanging ones so I cut each branch separately and hung them in my grow tent with the fan on high to create more separation and air flow over them as well as to isolate them. Here’s hoping I got it all and if any is left it’ll be separated from the rest outside the tent.

2am came and went as I worked away until I finallly collapsed in bed but not to find any sleep. The sheer thought of the effort and time and care expended into this grow potentially being completely for nothing kept me up all night! It will be a lesson not quickly forgotten of what even a couple minor oversights with a dash of carelessness can do. Running a perpetual setup with multiple strains and 10+ plants is a whole new ball game than 2 to 4 in a 3x3.

Tonight after work I will return, with newly acquired dehumidifier setup and multiple fans running I will continue to carefully inspect and separate every branch and every bud. Luckily the already separated and string lines ones were 100% clean as well as the less bulky Blueberry Indica.

This grow has definitely humbled me, I’ll be taking some time to properly finish my room before the next seeds drop - insulated, sealed and environment managed.
