DC’s Roaring 20’s Perpetual Garden!

I think I caught it early enough, there was only very small little bits of it on 2 of 7 plants and only a couple of the exteriors of the most dense and chunky colas (of course). So on one hand I had to toss the biggest colas I’ve grown to date, on the other hopefully I saved the rest!

I’ve got a couple fans circulating air and a space heater drying and warming the room now and I haven’t detected anymore of it so far.
I jarred up some buds from the first plant felled and the jar went to 80% RH so I still have a couple days of hang time I’d say. I also have a few paper bags in the fridge I’ll be checking on.

Thanks for the words of support guys. I’ll work through this and chalk it up to an important lesson and experience. It has also given me the kick in the ass needed to spend some time on my space and get everything streamlined and dialed in!

Stumbling over the Finish Line
They say some lessons are best learned the hard way. Well this grow has been a string of hard lessons that’s for sure! But on the bright side there is only one direction to go from here and that is up! Inspecting for Mold made close trimming and jarring at least 3x more tedious and time consuming. Morale of the story: don’t get Mold. Nevertheless it’s a labour of love:

Unfortunately after close examination I lost pretty close to 80% of the solid top colas on all Wonder Woman plants and one of the Strawberry Creams. No matter how good they looked at first once I looked close enough and used my microscope for verification I found traces of spider web like Mold, even the tiniest indication anywhere on a cola I tossed:

It’s one hell of a tough pill to swallow after months of effort and care to have to huck some of the most dense colas I’ve grown into the garbage but it’s a lesson I’ll not soon forget.
One of the Strawberry cream plants that was in the back corner drying I just tossed right out.

Conditions change around the seasons and you have to adapt with them. Knowing the humidity was up I definitely should’ve hung them by single branches or even buds on a drying rack with more air circulation! I also believe the dying leaves near the end contributed to the plants being more susceptible. I have to figure out what went wrong for next run if I continue to use Megacrop.

Fridge Dry Fumble
Lesson number 2. Maybe @MrSauga can help me! After a week or so of drying upside down I jarred up some buds and they were just above 70% RH. In order to bring them down I thought it would be perfect to try the fridge method so I pruned them into buds and into a paper bad folded over with a binder clip to keep it closed and into the fridge. After 24hrs I had a look and all 4 bags of buds were dried to a crisp! I threw them into jars last night and this morning they are 50-53% RH! I threw a hygrometer in the fridge to check and it was around 4C and 30-35% RH. What went wrong? Is the humidity of fridges used for this method usually higher?

Hi Dee!
Sorry about the issues you had. I think we all experience mold at least once in our growing experiences. As for the crispness the RH and temps are critical in the fridge. To a certain degree. You also want to have about an ounce of wet weed in each bag. Less than that and the process would be quicker too.

The process is a simple one. You want humidity levels at around 45-50% and temperatures at 40-45 degrees F.

The above link is a summary of the steps I use. My fridge hits those temps and RH levels as part of the normal operation of the fridge so if I had to guess the RH was too low as you surmised already. The temps are cool too so that would jive with the low RH. Warmer fridge temps and your RH should go up.

Got it, I’ll dial the fridge in next time. Thanks Sauga

The curing process has begun, now entering two weeks of spinning lids on and off relentlessly! The RH in my grow room is sitting around 65%, most jars are hovering just over that so I may need to lay the buds out for a few hours to get it down or even try a jar or two open on the fridge for an hour once I get the RH in there dialed in. I can’t wait to have this room sealed up and environmentally controlled for next grow!

The double blind curing study
The only good news about me freeze drying a couple ounces overnight by accident besides being immediately smokeableis that I’ll be able to put cured vs non cured buds to the quality test to see the real difference. I’ve reached out to a few friends who I’ll be giving some samples which I’ll only label sample #1 and sample #2. I’ve asked them to smoke the buds under the same circumstances and provide some specific feedback on taste, high and smell. I’ll get back to everyone next week.

Prelim Weigh In’s
All in all preliminary weight still looks like around 400-500g of half decent bud. Not bad considering I tossed an entire plant and countless meaty top colas! It’ll definitely keep me out of the dispensary and pay for a few buddies help via the barter system! One of my friends is going to detail my truck for an ounce, another is wiring my basement up for me for the same. I also have 4 brown paper bags of popcorn bud and 4 grocery bags of sugary leaf trim ready to ice up some hash when I get time!

Things could be much worse :) Tune in next update for the double blind smoke study results, final weigh in, and smoke report on the strains.

Quick one for you guys, I planted two auto flower seeds outdoor this season. One looks like this... is this a male? It’s got pistils but strange looking “buds”

Also leaves are irregular as well - lots of three fingered ones.

Wait what!? Autoflower planted outside and it reveged...is that a thing lol!?

Yes, I have 2 gorilla Glue Autos outside right now that were both in flower 2 months ago, they re-vegged and now they are huge bushy plants. Hoping they flip like photos in the next few days and go back to flower. In my case it's weak auto genetics (seeds from an OK not great seller) I think.

Cool let’s see what happens!
