Couldn't Resist A Christmas Auto Grow

Nice moisture gradient (or whatever the cool kids call it these days)!

I'd say your Red Russian is a day away from being in flower but I don't see anything yet on the Skywalker Kush.
Thank you Shed. That's such a cool compliment! ... nice moisture gradient... they do don't they :)
If I’m allowed to have a favorite and as none are my children I’ll put my marker on the Red Russian for the win. I’m not sure what the win is but I just like a little R&R. Cheers :)
Who doesn't like a little R&R :) That's what made me choose this one.

Thursday January 12 Update

RR XXL Auto is plugging on with no material issues.

A smaller leaf got squished as you can see. It's gone now. The branches are not wanting to bend outwards They both began to crack at the joints when I tried them.

SK Auto

SK Auto is giving me a couple of problems. The height between the third and fourth node has now grown to 14cm. Unfortunately after placing thee hooks over the top branches, the plant grew in height and squished her new growth. I don't know if it will die off or grow back so I am watching it closely.
Important Question: Can the main stem be super cropped? It is going to achieve apical dominance if I don't do something. Suggestions anyone?

Thank you for growing with me.

Your main stem is gone so do you mean the unsquished new top? It will definitely be the apical top since it's the tallest thing on the plant. I've never supercropped an auto and I can't recall seeing it done. Doesn't mean you can't give it a shot and see what happens!

Also, I'm not a carhook expert but I think those hooks would be best moved to the growth tips of the branches (that's what I do with my pipe cleaners). That's where the plant most flexible and also the part to keep flat.

Your main stem is gone
I'm referring to the trunk of the plant. It is longer between nodes 3 and 4 than it is from the ground to node 3. Surely it cannot remain like this if I am trying to get an even canopy? Surely it must be bent in half or something?

I'm not sure which carhooks in particular you are referring to. Do you mean all of them, or the top hooks on one or both? If I move those top hooks on the SK Auto the branches split. That is why they look the way they do now.

FYI, long internodes usually indicate either stretching for more light or wide temp fluctuations between day & night. Some strains, especially Sativas, naturally have longer internodes, as do males. You can train the plants down, but may still want to look at lights and temps to help shorten the internode distances.

Thank you Mr. Krip. This is definitely a genetic thing. My other plant has good internode spacing. The temperatures are not fluctuating because we are in high summer. It's a fem auto Skywalker Kush Cut. I super cropped the trunk. That should do it :)

:bravo: on the decisive action!

I still want to answer your questions though:

The idea would be to allow the 3rd node branches to come up to the level of the 4th and keep them flat from there. Having all the branches at the canopy level evens the light distribution and stimulates growth of the nodes on the lower part of those stems.

I meant the ones on the outside of the top node (you don't need them close to the trunk as they get longer). But that's a moot point now. :cheesygrinsmiley:

With all this talk about the luck of the draw with autos it’s made me nervous about them again. (I’ve never tried one)

And yet even with possibly early flowering and the accidental retopping your making it look effortless.
The plants are literally reaching for the light.
The leaves are consistently at attention 🫡

Very nice so far!

That sounds a lot gentler... I hope I did the right thing lol

Hi Carm, I'd supercrop anything that will. Meaning that the stem isn't too woody yet. I haven't figured out how to get that done . The bark splits and there's too much rehab in my opinion to do it. Go for it! It'll tell you. If it splits, stop bending and have some tape ready to give a wrap. That fix won't take too much to recover from.

That gave me goosebumps ! Perfect!

Thanks so much Lootz! I am still not quite ready to call flower. It is close so maybe tomorrow :) The plants are loving the swick and that's what is giving them that gorgeous angle, for sure.

Thank you Otter! :) It was becoming a beanstalk!

There are a many ways of getting to the finish and that supercrop job you did is exactly what I would’ve done if it were my plant. The very first autos I grew I didn’t top but I did a supercrop on them just about where yours is. They were some of my best yielders.
Fun times ahead now.

This is so amazing to see💕💕
Thank you Lexi, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next with these two :) They are growing quite quickly now and I am seeing more pistils.

Thank you Nev, it definitely seemed the right thing to do :) Some of your best yielders, that sounds worth hoping for!
