Couldn't Resist A Christmas Auto Grow

You have to or you'll run out of room with all those plants.

lol my avg height is only 3 ft at chop. sometimes a touch more. in stupid tiny buckets. we used to grow rows of plants in five gal pails with no topping and just some lollipopping. i really miss trimming a plant as tall or more than me.

edit : i'm still confused by the 8 node alternate branch thing. i've never seen anything like that at all.

So the bottom line is that stressing an auto plant can send it into flowering. That I'll buy!
If it's stressors then I can't imagine what it was that did it. I find it hard to imagine how self-watering from a perlite wick is going to stress the plant. Quite the opposite I would think. I can see how up-potting could be a stressor but my plants didn't faulter when upcanned. I've read so many growers saying autos are too temperamental and should not be trained, usually new growers. Then I read the responses from more experienced growers who practice topping and training and insist it is good practice for autos.

I often find that I can find the very first pre flowers right at node 5. Almost without fail but I also grow them out to 10 modes before filming them (yes I'm greedy) they are usually still symmetrical at that stage. Winter (12/12) plants will start to flower most often at 5 or 6 nodes.
Just my observations of mostly landraces and 9 out of 10 times pure sativa.
Have a lekker weekend lovely people

Have an awesome weekend LR. The weather couldn't be better today, certainly here. No wind but a slight breeze to take the intensity of the dry heat off the body and than you for your observations.

Hey Carmen, sorry to hear your girls may be flowering too early. Hold out hope though I have faith it will be okay :)

From what I've read about pistils showing it's not uncommon at all on autos early on, mine did the same (although my results may still suck lol) and mine grew a LOT between showing the pistils and now. Crossing my fingers for you that everything will be sweet :)

My best auto's were topped right before 21 days and for as many nodes that they could make in that time. They grew great! My issue is some auto's are so small I can't get in to top them in that time.
Which node do you generally snip off? Mine are both at 7 inches today, which is two weeks of age.
I started training mine today with Carhooks amde with thick and gentle plant wire which can't hurt the plants.

I've also read that so I don't want to be too alarmist about the pistils at this stage. The training has started, so that makes me feel encouraged :)

Woot woot!!! Happy again :)

i've topped and trained autos before. i'd never recommend learning on them though. most autos i've had were just grown alongside a photo grow in the veg room, left with no topping, and just a little defol / lollipopping.

generally cut between nodes 4 and 5 losing 5.

edit : i'd be tempted to let those just run as they are showing so strong

Too late I took off node 5 on both and stripped the lowers already. I have heard quite a lot of conflicting stuff but I feel confident that what I have done is right. The branches on node three are picking up pace and I managed to hook all four node 3 branches down. I have a good feeling that I will do better with these two autos than my previous two.

nodes occur in pairs. it sounds like you topped between 4 and 5 , culled 1 and 2, keeping nodes 3 and 4. it's a classic quad line if you have.

I wish I could be of some help but i’m still on my first grown and they are photos, but early preflower or not, i’m rooting for your success. You’ve got this😊
Thanks Lexi. I am feeling more confident than yesterday. I think I've finally got my wicking plates wicking right. The plants have both grown a couple of cm overnight and they are stretching themselves up into the air. They are definitely growing and I'm not seeing a lot of pistils so holding thumbs that they will spread out for me :)

Carmen I want to apologize for stating that your plant was in flower as it plainly is not. I should have said something to the effect of preflower stage:laughtwo: That is not a bad thing but yes it is earlier then what I personally prefer but have no choice over. I’ve had the best luck with the ones that start showing at 21 days.

I started training mine today with Carhooks amde with thick and gentle plant wire which can't hurt the plants.
Looking good with those brilliant Carhooks complimented with the luxurious thick and gentle wire covers.
Shes going to be a beauty. Your going at this perfectly no fears!
:bravo:

Yes that is what I've planned. I meant that I had hooked down branches at nodes three on two plants. They look good to go. I am hoping for a burst of growth :)

Thank you Nev! I shall be led by the "fickle finger of fate" 😃 and some damn good tips and hacks from the 420 community!

The thing about autos is they will flower on their own timetable, stressed or not (though often earlier when stressed). Boo has grown monster POTM autos as well as smaller ones that produce a few ounces, so there is variation even among folks who do it well.

The most consistent autos always seem to be grown under ideal environmental conditions in a tent.

Woot woot! Nice training with those CarHooks®. :welldone:

Hoping this grow brings MUSIC to your ears Carmen!

Thank you GDB, What they have done in two days has made me hear celestial flutes. They are such beautiful plants and they have taken to swicking from birth like dagga plants to water :cheesygrinsmiley:
