Cottage 420's Organic Perpetual Indoor Garden

Hey Bob you're using the Sohum soil? If you are how did you get their soil? Tried ordering through the website and it states delivery unavailable. Tried calling the number a few times, no one picks up, left a message. Finding this all a bit weird. Can you tell me how your experience went?

I never tried the Sohum soil, I think that was Drcanabi... he's been MIA lately likely due to family issues. His father was very ill. :Namaste:

My latest soil in a bag I've been working with and amending is Biomax from Premier. They also have another one that is good.

I can source the Biomax locally at several Garden centers/nurseries here locally (east coast). It's good ... but needs some amendments for a 70+ flower cycle. I use as part of my humus portion of my soil mix and it's organic.

Here's a link where you can get it - I pay like $8 locally for a bag.

PREMIER BioMax 3-in-1 Garden Mix, 32-qt. Bag

Here's another good one that you should be able to source locally. Premier is the very very good company out of Canada. They are THE source for soil and amendments.. top of the toppers in my book - look around this website - yer going to be in heaven:

Thank you, I knew it was you or Dr. lol I contacted him too, sorry to hear about his dad. I'm trying to set up my next grow with the autopots, but want to do them with sohum. But after my trouble they finally called me back, they were at a convention and was also having website troubles. They still haven't reached out when I can actually order it and get it delivered but they did reach out, so that's a good start. I'll keep you posted how it goes too. I'm hoping it's true that all I have to do is add water. That match with the autopots, I'm hoping for some freedom and back to traveling. lol

I mix my own soil mix .. for AutoPots it goes like this - there's a screen then on top of that I put about 2" of clay balls at the btm of the AutoPot and then my soil mix on top. Walk away.... My summer run I was out of the country for 6 WEEKS (4 weeks consecutively back then back on the road) of the 9-10 week flowering period. I had my BEST yields... do date.

Automation takes attention to detail tho for sure. I'm not new to this. Murphy's Law.. plan for it.

Thanks, Bob. Question... do you mix your soil with perlite mix or soil with clay ball mix, or is the clay balls just at the bottom? I ask because their website makes it sound like you should mix the soil with something, either perlite or clay balls so, was wondering which you were using if any. Cause I'm trying to decide which one to use. I'm assuming you can reuse clay balls but not sure how good it is to mix with soil, not just for the bottom. Any thoughts?

Also, what lights do you use?

Layer of clay balls at the bottom of the AutoPot... then my soil mix which has perlite in it as aeration. The clay balls do several things, the main thing is help wic water up into the soil. The roots won't grow into the clay balls much when there's soil there so they grow fine white root tips that dip into the clay ball layer so the plant gets to drink.

I've been messing with the AP system lately. One thing I noticed for sure is the plants drink A LOT more water than what I was giving them hand watering. Like 2 - 3 times more water. Also this system it's likely impossible to over water. My grow space stays nice and humid too.. when the plants are getting ripe they transpire a lot of moisture. Hand watering my RH was low this time of year 20-25%, now it's perfect 35-45%.. in the summer its a tad higher @ 70% but manageable!

Some of the literature on the AP website is geared towards folks that use chemical (non-organic) fertilizers. Some of the info crosses over... and can be confusing until you start growing with the system. If you send e-mail to contact them, I don't think they understand what ORGANIC SOIL is! Or don't come into contact with many people that grow this way.

Everyone wants to grow the "easy" way...with chem ferts...

For me this is the easy way with organics and the AP system. All I need to do it fill the reservoir and walk away. That's like 1x a month! Of course I'm in the flower room daily.. trying to find something I "need" to do. Basically it's looking for signs of pests and telling them how pretty they look!

Ok so another pic update ...

Ladies in flower are coming along nicely.. I was worried the buds were smallish but they are coming down the back stretch (a few of them) at 60 days in flower. I have 2 Chemdawg clones that will be finished first and they are @ ~60 days in flower. So maybe a week or 2 left.

I'm letting them go and bulking up.. I have a few male plants in VEG (another part of the house) that I sit in the flower room for a day or so... let the plant Pheromones mix it up. The ladies really really respond to this.

So today I did some Nettle tea like 5 tbs added to 3+ gal of water. Also I added in some Gypsum (2 tbs) and some EM-1 (1 cap full) and 3 tbs of Ful-power. Gave all the ladies and girls (ahem... and the gents) some of the mix. The AP ladies got about a pint each ... just a little to give the mycos a boost.

Chemdawg the Purps.. now Chemdawg the Orange Purps clone! Nothing but underside of leaves. Very very nice. Sticky and starting to get some nice faintly gassy smell!

Another Chemdawg clone... at least that's what the label says... I think I mixed up here! Leaves are fat and BIG ... looks more Indica to me... she's smallish too at around 30" and no stretch to speak of YET. @ 20 days in flower.

Enjoying those Chem pics bb. Real nice gardening. Wonder what male HSO hit its Chem with to produce a purple pheno? Chems aren't purple strains & usually tend towards the mid greens w/ gold. Maybe some SD in there, which would do it. Keep up the great work brother.
:Namaste:

Thanks there BL.. I think the color comes from the lighting... pretty sure. I've got another clone from the Purple Chemdawg for the spring run and she looks just like they are supposed to look. Short and Green and covered with trichomes. From all the clones from the first purple Chemdawg, they all look a little different. Which is weird.

I've always cloned and got exact replicas almost every time.. not with this one. Maybe the genetics are not stable ... someone somewhere took a short cut or 2 is my guess. Regardless tho I've not been disappointed. Usually an unstable strain, we get runts and crappy plants in the mix. I've managed several mothers with this strain and it's been the best for cloning for me.

I've been growing a lot of the Chemdawg relatives lately. I'm trying a bunch to see if I like one or 2 over the others. So far I'm digging the Chemdawg a lot.

TBH - I think its the lights that change the color not the genetics. Of course the genetics are there but without a specific like they stay all green. I've been testing this out. Everything the same in the soil.. heck I even re-used the pot/soil changed the light and the color changed.

These that look purple growing, after dry and cure they are green.

I'm good and growing purps... I should try some of Estes seeds.

This is another of the clones from the purp plant - she's classic Chemdawg... short stout and bright green and sparkles and twin clone of this 2nd one below this has more color:

Lets see what I can do with Al Capone.

This one's been in the flower room for 2 weeks and more that doubled in size and STILL no flowers. She's going to be a big one. I've got several more coming along. We will be having a Chemdawg x Al Capone party here .. I've got some males and some Chem girls in VEG.

Thanks everybody... I like to take pics of the pretty ones!! :thumb:

I've got a few large males in another place far far away from these and they are ugly... trying to look like girls all the way to balls dropping and popping. I'm going to try to save some pollen from Al Capone and see what can be done with the Chemdawg.

Al Capone is:

El Diablo OG x Wifi 2 X Wonkstar (La Ultra x Chem 4 Alien OG)

Al the Al Capone plants are heavily leaning Indica.. HUGE leaves and large plants. Getting too large for indoors. If they don't start flowering soon I'm going to have to get out the bailing wire.

There's going to be some big flowers from this one.. time to thin her down and take clones.

Amazing lookn ladies as per usual bo:thumb: very nice with the purple are u noticing is the purple devlopment more strain specific or is there certain things we can do 2 affect it and bring out the purple trait in any strain like adjusting the temps to lower at there dark time?? Or different types of light used/added?? Or anything else 2 tht effect?? Or is it just ur getting a strain tht produces a purple phenotype??

Hi Bob! Thank you for your comment on my girls, I will subscribe here and start reading! Cheers! :Namaste:

Hey there Tomula.. welcome to my corner of 420Mag. This is my perpetual grow so there's a CRAP ton of info I gleaned over the years of organic farming and tried to post most of what I know to share and pass along.

Keep the tradition alive!

I learned most all of what I know from the folks that came before me and this is my humble attempt at passing along what I've been taught and what I've learned along the way.

I'm pretty much old school with an open mind and love in my heart - doesn't always show, but I'm living and learning.

My farming technique is LITFA... lazy at heart, love soil building. Let the flowers and worms do the work. I'm just hear for the ride.

Hope you enjoy. :Namaste:

Ok so another sorta update. Been pretty quiet here coming down the stretch for the fall crop.

I've focused on growing out some Chemdawg that went purple from the spring run. The buds were sooo tasty and heavy hitting I'm glad I kept a clone that I turned into a mother and she donated a bunch of ladies that we have going now.

Chemdawg organic clone from Chemdawg purple from spring time run. Oh and I'm running AutoPot XL system with 8 pots and a XL 60gal reservoir. All I have to do is make soil, plant with plants ... everything else takes care of itself. I just have to be sure there's no pests.. and there's always pests.

I just harvested the first clone the other day, she's on the hook now. This is her waiving good bye to y'all:

DSCN195710.JPG

Close up.... her mom was completely purple after dry, cure and trim - buds were bright green as expected.

DSCN1956_2_.JPG

Here's a family picture of the ladies before harvesting the other day. There are many plants in different stages of growth. The big green plant is another Chemdawg from seed and the large green plant in the back corner .. hard to see is Al Capone.

Family Picture:

20161205_174229.jpg

I've got a bunch of the Al Capone clones going now. This plant is going to be HUGE. She took her sweet time flowering... like 10 days after switch to 12/12 but the wait is paying off.

Al Capone is: (El Diablo x WiFi 2) x Wonk$tar (La Confidential x MK Ultra) x (Chem4 Alien OG)

She seems to grow similar to Chemdawg... but much larger plant... well lets go with the average ChemD plant. They usually are shorter and stout, the big green girl in the middle is a ChemD and she's of course HUGE (for indoors).

The other plants with large colas are about ready to harvest - There's some Mandala California Dream. No matter what I do they always go yellow... I guess its gold...the buds are green and rust when ready and always sweet tasty goodness.

Cali Dream organic: Yellowing happens.. some strains do it and some do not. All these plants same soil same everything .... even tried more N foiler and watering in... just prolongs the inevitable. All good, I'm not smoking the fan leaves, the buds stay green and sticky and taste fantastic.

Next up for the winter round is "The Future"

Working on reg seedlings right now and following up with some Auto plants to fill in. Auto Mazar in the dome and 6 of 6 seedling popping.

I'm trying to feel the holiday cheer... something about mass consumption that has me blue... We are going to hang some holiday lights, maybe that will brighten my spirits and someone else's too! Snow will get me going ... let it snow let it snow let it snow and lets go X-country skiing FTW.
