Cherries DubeLee In A S.I.P. - An LOS Grow

THREE WEEKS IN UPDATE

It's a good morning here. Stormy times today coming in later and it's calm as the sun comes up through the trees. My snowblower needs a shear pin replaced and I'm ready for what Mother Nature brings. All that and my Cherries DubeLee in SIP hasn't a clue. She'll be snug as a bug tucked away getting her regular daily dose of love. One way or another.

She's 21 days past flip in these pics and I pollinate on that day normally. Yesterday was a stoner day apparently. I remembered right to when I didn't so I'll have to play Otter Canna Seed tonight instead. What a Homer :D!
I'm getting a kick out of the crown she's developing!
Then there's down below. I looked in to see how things were going and found some off looking old leaves that when I touched, fell off.
Before
After
My target for tonight. A smallish shoot from a branch. Not so small on this plant though.
And a top main bud. Still small but getting the message.
Have a great week!
I think your snowblower is trying to tell you something.
She doesn't want to do it anymore.
I think we all need a good warm spell.
The snow is 5' tall beside the greenhouse, I should get a pic.
I retired my snowblower, can't push it in the frozen snow!!
Stay warm my friend.
Garden is Amazing. :bravo:
Take care.

Highya SO,

She's looking great! Huge momma! Seriously happy!! Curious - what's those leaves all gnarled and yellow at the bottom? I didn't expect that. Good luck with your pollen chucking. I'm guessing you'll fix the sheer pin today. More snow tomorrow. Happy Smokin'
I didn't expect any spent leaves either. Can't judge a book by the cover got us! She had a long strange start that I may have stumbled a moment and missed something? Most or all of my tent grows lose some lower leaves for no apparent reason. This one is exceptionally leafy still. More than my normal grows.
Oh yeah I'm on the pin! Broke two the other day. The ground wasn't frozen enough and my plow guy gouged up some of my driveway and it bungs up the blower. It's frozen now!

Yeah it is! It's plugging for retirement! She's getting her wish this year but don't tell her until after these last few runs.

OLD TO NEW UPDATE

Here's the mother of this plant on the same day of flower. She's @Dope-Seeds gift of Black Skulls Wedding Cake. A plant that grew three nodes instead of two. She did well in a pot.

And here's my female Chunky Cherry Thai at day 16 from flip for a look at the CCT cultivar. I grew a male for pollen for the resulting seeds for this Cherries DubeLee. I remember she had the shortest pistols.

I bought a pack of 20 no-name shear pins online about 15yrs ago, still have a couple left. A machine shop friend said the ones the mfg sell are a ripoff and I think he's on to something. :) Worst thing I ever gobbled up with my machine was a garden hose; that took a long time to get unwound after a lot of cutting. Second was a rubbermaid trash can cover. Had to burn it out with a torch! The smell was great.

I think anyone pollenating plants to make their own strains and seeds is on another level. :adore: Someday maybe....

Oh man! I've heard the hose story before! You're not alone. For me I was going along minding my own business when the machine started to make grinding noises and shook like you wouldn't believe! At a moment it stopped shaking and most of a brick came flying out the chute! That machine I was convinced it was ok to use bolts instead of pins. Hehe, nope!
Thanks for the compliment but you're ready when you feel like it. All you need is a spare room away from the plant to pollinate and a male. That's for chucking pollen, to be a breeder is another thing altogether. This is just hit or miss fun.
Could be that the top is dense the plant said fuck it to those lower leaves!

Can't wait to see the pistils start to curl in on the pollinated puffs... :reading420magazine:
I'm all in on that!

OMG a brick? That's crazy! My last snow blowing story. At my old house a neighbor decided to do me a favor and clear my driveway while I was at work, but he didn't see the used 6-pack of Mobil 1 oil covered in snow! What a mess....

Well it looks like you hit the bullseye with your Cherries Dubelee!

NIce neighbor! I can feel the regret!

POLLEN APPLIED UPDATE

Good Tuesday everyone! Just a dustin of snow today. It'll be a nice workout to remove some or it.

But to the point, the DubeLee du Cherry got pollen painted with the tiniest watercolor paintbrush you can imagine. For you who haven't yet done it, On the 21'st day of flower all fans in the room go off, a mask for breath goes on, all right before light out. Choose the recipient bud, mark it with a tie and cover it with a bag. Spray all the rest of the buds with water. Remove bag, carefully paint the pistols with some pollen and gently bag the branch holding it for 2 days, then remove the bag then respray pollinated buds. Done for ~5 weeks but for taking the bag off and spraying the area and bag. Remove bag from the room.

Congrats you chucker!

2 days? Maybe that's why my first attempt at pollination didn't work...I thought it was a few hours.
I've given over night with success but I read up to 3 or 4 days for pollen to reach the bullseye once applied recently. That would be the internal process. Sorry for no docs on that. My most productive chucks have been 48 hour baggers follower by a good spray if memory serves. I'll go 36 probably.
A couple hours may do it but if there's issues the 24 to 48 is my comfort zone.

Yeah it's a quick process. I leave them overnight before spraying with water. Longer won't hurt them any.
Thanks Lerugged! There's so little real solid information and so much bro science in this area it's hard to know the bullseye of the situation. I'm thinking it best to err on the more time side for me. I had a low seed count last time and I'm sorting my missteps out. One thing I did different was waiting less than 24 hours. I went back to the thing that worked for me. If that indeed was the reason, we'll never really know. I just know they were light with that time.
Awesome fun. Congrats on the pollenation Otter. Nail biting stuff waiting until seeds are ripe
Pure fun Carmen! I'm learning these will be f2 seeds and they come with their own special and maybe odd charachecter. I found this from Dutch Passion:

The difference between F1 and F2 cannabis seeds

F1 cannabis seeds are produced when two parents are crossed. When you see F1 cannabis seeds for sale you would normally expect them to show the closest qualities to the original strains. When the F1 cannabis seeds are grown and subsequently crossed the resulting seeds are known as F2 cannabis seeds.

The subject of F1 and F2 cannabis genetics can be a complicated subject, with questions such as ‘is F1 better than F2 cannabis?’ Whether you get better results with F1 vs F2 cannabis seeds will depend on the individual phenotypes being grown, as well your definition of the word ‘better’. It is perhaps safest to say that F1 cannabis seeds are more likely to show results closer to the original parents compared to F2 seeds.

Super interesting @StoneOtter - So the painted plant will produce your F2 seeds right? And you just pollinate one branch that will pollinate the rest? Wil you seperate the seeds and buds at the end and smoke them or do they get made into tincture/edibles?

I've never seen this process before so I'm very curious and excited to see it play out :)

First time I've read about the refractometer as well, super interesting and another tool I need to add to my collection?

Hey Weff, only the bud I touched with pollen will make seeds if I did it right and no pollen blows around to the rest of the buds. Hence the water spray, to kill any unwanted pollen. The whole rest of the plant will be seedless.

The refractometer I think, I'll be able to see if or how much a plant likes an input or not with it someday.
