Carmen's Winter Autos With ViparSpectra XS1500 Pro!

Truly remarkable Shed. This could well be a POTM candidate!
Thanks Carmen! I'll have to keep it green in flower though. ;)
Ok I am going to copy paste my reply here now.
Me too:

I think it still qualifies as a SWICK. The only thing you are doing differently is that you have removed the layer of fabric between the perlite and the soil.
I'm not so sure because the bottom roots are actually growing in nutrient filled perlite, just like hempy.
Perhaps this variation is a technological improvement on the SWICK method, advanced to produce monster plants? Where are your nutes though? I think yours are in the res. I wonder what the growth would look like with plain water in the res.
My nutes would be in the res and (via capillary action) the soil. I have no idea what my style would look like in LOS given the number of roots down there. I would guess the perlite will be solid roots when I pull this apart.

I am rethinking my swicky pads though. I do those because I find the perlite messy on my table. It scratches the surface when I move them. I'm sure you are right about perlite becoming solid root material. I think that's the secret to your giant 5KC. I didn't ever read up about hempy so I don't know about that yet.

Found Carmen using @ViparSpectra lights and I too run the new KS series. I run the KS3000 320w & KS2500. Both in a 3x3x6'. Pulling up a chair, you like the Pro 1500 so far? SSgrower
Hi SS :) Nice to have you join us, thank you. I am very impressed with the @ViparSpectra XS1500 Pro so far. The build is solid and sexy and it glides up and down super smoothly when adjusted for height. I love having the dial to adjust the light intensity. My Gelato loved the light immediately but the Parmesan was a little light shy to start. Now that she has her roots in the perlite she is loving life and light.

How are you finding the KS series lights? I don't see a journal link in your sig.?

Love seedling porn! nice looking run, what media? SS
Thanks! They are in a 50 % seedling mix with the craft soil I am using. I found in previous runs the soil was too hot for young plants and that created issues. Last run I semi-botched by using contaminated soil (grubs) but I learnt that mixing my soil down with used soil helped prevent leaf issues. I bought decent stuff for this grow. Fresh soil and bonsai seedling mix.

Congrats on the baby! :cheer:

Hempy is passive hydro (no moving water) where the plants grow in nothing but perlite. There is a short res at the bottom and the rest of the roots are fed because the perlite wicks the nutes up toward the plant.

Most hempy folks pH their nutes because it's hydro (an unbuffered medium).
Thank you for the congrats!

Ok I see what you mean then. That's interesting. I've always wondered if that could work. I tend to agree with you that your style is a hybrid. Are you going to give it a name? I was thinking SHWICK :cheesygrinsmiley:

Quite a lot has happened in the last few days. I have up-potted the Parmesan, lowered that light and turned it up to 50 %. I moved the sprout under this light and kept it much further away from the light. I lowered the light over the Gelato 1 too. My replacement cell phone does not have a sensor for Photone app to use, so I am going by feel now, rather than by measuring PPFD.

Thanks for keeping me company and for all comments and suggestions.
