Carcass' $150 Low Budget Grow 2019

I’m glad you got your seedling sorted.
Thanks,420! -sterilizing all my "seedling stuff" seems to have fixed the problem-this time, anyway :)
I mean you should try germinating in hempy.
I may give it a try next time-I did the paper towel method for the last 4 and it worked well (except 2 seedlings dropped dead:straightface:)
I'll need to pick up some plain perlite next trip to Home Depot...I have a large bag of it already, but it's
Miracle Grow brand, which comes with time release nutes, so I'm not going to use that crap.
Once you see a pair of true leaves you can pluck the seedling from the perlite and place it where ever it needs to be.
That sounds good- do I do it just like a hempy bucket, except in a solo cup?

That’s exactly right, make a hempy bucket out of a solo cup. I’ve used the MG perlite before, just rinse the crap out of it. So far I’ve got 100% success rate in a hempy solo cup. The small rez in the bottom of the cup keeps the top layer of perlite in the perfect moisture level for germination.

i also scarify before I germinate. Have you ever considered giving that a try as well? Scarification is when you scuff up the outside of the seed before you plant it. I roll a strip of 800 grit sand paper into a tube and pop the seed in, using my thumb to block the bottom hole. I cap the tube with my index finger and I shake it back and forth for a good 5 minutes or so. My seeds have been coming up in exactly 3 days, always.

I hope everyone's having a good Memorial Day...
and since it's Monday it's time for a little update!

Here's the 22 day old Gelat.og auto- I topped it 9 days ago, and started the quadline training 4 days ago
@SeedsMan says to expect very little in the way of side branching, so I'm not sure how this is going to go,
but we'll know more in a few weeks....It's not quite flowering yet,but it will be within the next few days.

I've got a couple seedlings going too (finally)- the ChemDawg#4 (top) is 4 days old, and the
Alaskan Purple auto (bottom) is 3 days old...I wasn't going to grow another AP right away, but I killed all my CBD seeds, so I figured what the heck....
1590429514326.jpeg

A closer look at the ChemDawg- this one's a photoperiod plant, so it'll be going outside once it gets
a bit bigger..(that's a bit of dried membrane stuck on the cotyledon...)
1590429660288.jpeg

And the Alaskan Purple- doing fine-3 days old and taller than the 4 day old (by about 1/4":))

That's about all for the indoor girls- now on to the outside plant (96 day old clone)
1590430176096.jpeg

It started flowering as soon as I sat it outside on April 8th...but about 3 weeks ago,I suspected it was starting to re-veg...and sure enough, it is.
Pretty odd having it do this mid flower-the buds look pretty funny too- very few pistils now, just funny leaves growing where the pistils should be...

I've never seen one do this this far into flower, so it'll be interesting to watch what it does.

That's about it for today-
Thanks for looking!- I appreciate the support-:peace:
Have a great day everyone!

Thanks for the info, Chef- I didn't know you could wash the nutes out of the perlite, so I'll give it a try
next time.
i also scarify before I germinate.
I do that- I've got a pill bottle with sandpaper stuck inside it, and I shake the seeds around in there to rough them up a little.

plucking the seedling out of the perlite is easier than it sounds. You just pick up the cup and squeeze it gently, then pull on the seedling very softly as you sort of roll the cup back and forth in you hand. As long as you go slow, it’s easy.

nice update!! You babies are looking good. That outside girl maybe went out too early? I dunno.....

Coarse sand works well too.

Your garden is looking great - both indoor and out. :thumb:

I had a Trainwreck that did that to me last year. I put it outside on the first day of Spring and it started to flower immediately. By June it had reverted back to veg. Then I schlepped it in and out of the shed everyday until it went back into flower mode. I thought it was good to good by August so I left it outside full time again. Then it revegged again! It ended up being pretty good smoke after all that.

I really would like to try that with an auto, but not sure when to start. They seem so small and then "boom" they start flowering and then it's too late. I have a Monster Bruce Banner that's 24 days old, and am tempted to top it, but I'm nervous about that. What do you think?

That outside girl maybe went out too early? I dunno.....
She went from 19/5 inside to apx 13/11 outside, which did trigger flowering- now the outdoor light is apx
14/10, so she's having second thoughts...
Coarse sand works well too.
Thanks,Salt - I've got a 5 gallon bucket of clean coarse sand so I'll try that next run- my sandpaper bottle doesn't seem to do very much- the only self adhesive sandpaper I had was the fine stuff,so something rougher would be better...

Good Afternoon,Beez!
I usually top them around day 9 or 10- that way they're already recovered and branching out before flowering starts.
If that Bruce Banner isn't flowering yet you could try it, but it is a little late in the game...

You could try this- worked great on this low ryder-ended up only 11" tall, but yielded 3oz.
all the benefits of topping, without the recovery time

Thanks! Maybe I'll try a little LST on the 24 day old. I have a 7 day old Sweet CBD, maybe I could try it with that, but it just seems so tiny still.

I have a 7 day old Sweet CBD, maybe I could try it with that,
Only the real good growers will be ready by day 10 (Barney's Purple Punch auto was one)- I checked my scrawlings, and see that I topped the Gelat.og on day 14- I wait till the 4th node starts- then top it as soon as there's enough "node" there to chop off.
I'll usually shave node #1 off at the same time (quadline)- I figure there's no point in making the plant recover twice. Honestly, the plants don't seem to even notice.

Your outside plant started as a male houseplant,
Hi,Shed!
It does get confusing- the outside plant is a clone that I took from the mis-identified "male:rolleyes:" houseplant...
It was flowering when I cut the clone, so the clone revegged (indoors) as soon as it sprouted roots.
Then, when I moved it outdoors, it started flowering again (around april 4th).
Now,the days are getting longer, so it's revegging again.
Sort of bad planning on my part, but it'll be interesting to see what it does the third (and final) time it flowers...
I also pollinated her the first time she was flowering (at your suggestion,IIRC), so there's a few seeds in there somewhere...I just have to find them:cheesygrinsmiley:

Hi @carcass ! Newbie grower here and fan of your work.
Welcome, syenite, to 420, and to my little corner of it!
I try and keep it simple and easy, and,so far it seems to be working...glad to have you with us!

Hope you don't mind if I lurk around
Don't mind a bit!
Welcome to my journal, McRib! Great to have you with us!

Hi, Reave- good to see you!
Carcass that male you had in the yard was in just in a garden bed?
Yes, it was just planted in the dirt...more sand than dirt,actually...
I did use Mega Crop on it when it got a little older - it was raining off and on during it's younger days, so I didn't start feeding it regularly till it was about 2 feet tall.
I started with 8g mc /2 gallons water, and slowly upped it to 12g/2 gal till I had to chop it down.
I'd adjust the pH to apx 6.5, sometimes a little higher, sometimes a little lower...
and it got watered/fed every 3 days.
It finally got too big,so I had to trash it (didn't need a pound of pollen)
I did take a clone from it before it "died", and that flowered and gave me some pollen for use later on...

good to be back. I was being really busy with life. Talking on forms seemed to have very little appeal but I should be back now.

Gor my autos on the go. Got 3 skunk regs, one is showing male already so I’m thinking the other two are female. And I’m hoping to get inon the Seedsman comparison grow. Those payote chemovars look dope.

thanks for the info. I got a couple autos in the dirt. They are looking good. I think once Iadd the MC to my tap water it’s about in range. I’ll check it though. The soil should be really good. Has a ton of worms and I mixed in some pete and some top soil that had some light fertilizer in it.

will hold off on the MC till they are larger.

You allegedly don't have to pH your water when using Mega Crop, but old habits die hard...
Plus...I finally got a good ($$) pH tester ,and I'm going to use it whether I need to or not ;)

My fancy Apera is collecting dust. Lol
