Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

I not sure which journal it is in but BigIrishDoode does some breeding you could chat with him. I am also interested in the breeding and just started reading a book called The Cannabis Breeders Bible. Im a 9th grade drop out with a GED and was never really into Biology in school so its a little overwhelming to me lol but you could look into that also
Thanks Cas. I looked into that very book today, one for sale on Amazon and one on ebay that is an E-book. I don't have the money to spare right now. Let me know what you think of the book in general, whether it is or isn't useful if ya could. :-)

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

looks good so far make sure you have drainage in your pot of choice so that water cant sit in the bottom of it and when watering just wait until the top 1" or so is dried out unless the plant gives u a visual indicator that it is in need of water. But by not over watering you make the roots go in search of water giving you more and stronger roots. The better your roots are the better your above ground will be.

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Hi everyone.
Nothing significantly different going on. One more toddler popped her head today, so she's under the light now. I have the 25w CFL's about 2" away from the plants, from what I've been reading that's good? I have the timer set for 18/6 light schedule as suggested here. They did get some green on today, so all is well in "grassland" this evening.
I will post some pics once the leaves open up and give an update. :ciao:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

hello my friend, welcome to 420 mag,

great start to your journal, looks like its going to turn into a very nice grow,

you mention breeding, well what do you need to know, their is plenty of breeding info in my journal or feel free to ask any questions you like here and ill do my best to answer, im not an expert so i can only tell you what i know from my own experience, ive produced regular seeds and femenised seeds,
at the minute im working with a cross i made, im trying to make a stable ken estes gdp cross with purple cheese auto,
i crossed a male gdp with a purple cheese auto, 1/4 of the seeds will turn out auto, so ill grow out the seeds and pick out the autos and cross them so that will give me a gdp cheese auto to work with, then its a case of growing them out and picking the best pheno types so i can then make it stable and consistent but it takes time as you have to back cross and pick out the pheno types you want,

most the seeds will be none auto so that will be gdp cheese, again ill need to work with the pheno types and cross them to produce a stable strain, but its a lot of work and you have to do some back crossing to ensure you keep the genetics your after.

but if your just after a load of seeds pick the best female and best male you can find, if you cross the same strain then the seeds will the same as you started with as long as you pick the best fem and male from that batch of seeds,

if you wanted to cross a strain then again you need to pick the best female and best male from another strain, crossing strains is the easy part, making it work and turn into a top strain is something else,

then theirs fem seeds, theirs a few methods to produce fem seeds, the chemical option and the rodirization metho, unsure of spelling but thats the method i use and it works and produces femenised seeds.

so it really depends on what you want to do, if you just want to produce seeds from a strain you like then just grow out a male and female and cross them with each other, just be careful with pollen is pollen from a male gets everywhere so you could turn a room of fem plants into a room of seeded plants very quick if your not careful with what your doing,

but it can be done, it can be controlled, i produce seeds on my lower buds on the plants im crossing so the rest of the plant is seed free, ive got thousands of seeds and a few friends are trying the strains ive crossed as im pretty impressed with the results plus theirs a few strains ive not had time to grow out yet so getting others to grow them allows me to see the progress and the end results,

at the minute im collecting pollen from a kc45 auto male as its a huge male for an auto so good genetics for an auto cross, so this will be used to produce a big yielding auto, but it will take a while to get the strain where i want it to but once im happy and the strain is stable then that gives me as many seeds as i want for future grows,

but if this is your first grow id get used to growing first and learn how plants react to differnet situations, then work with a strain you have grown a few times so you know the plant is a nice plant and the end results are good, the last thing you want to do is cross a good strain with a bad male and produce seeds that produce poor plants, getting it right pays off but getting it wrong is very easy.

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

While I'm thinking on it, do any of you guys know of a thread or journal here dedicated to breeding seeds and seed harvesting? I am very interested in that process and would love to see some detailed processes and pics.

I was going to agree with Cascadian and also add in DonPaul, but I see he just posted, lol. There's also a journal by Granny420 that goes into femenized seeds using safe colloidal silver.

p.s. Congrats on the germination, you gotta be psyched :)

Yeah, BID has some damned good entries and he always makes sure the pics are clear.

hello my friend, welcome to 420 mag,

Hey Don, was just about to recommend she read your journal, lol... how'd your day go today? :Namaste:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Hey all you helpful people! Thanks very much for the suggestions and information. I'll be checking out the journals for those you mentioned.
Donpaul.p: What a wealth of knowledge you have there! Welcome to my grow, nothing exciting going on yet....but I'm sure it will get there. :-) I will definitely check out your journal (s) to read through them. I don't plan on doing any of my own right now, but as soon as I get the grow down, I do want to take a stab at creating my own strain. I like to start reading up and understanding things before I get into them.:thanks:
Thanks again and have a great day everyone!
Btw, all but two of the nine toddlers are up and running so far. :thumb:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

I never gave up on that one seed that wouldn't pop.
I had to induce labor last night on her. She decided to come out!
LateBaby.jpg

I used a piece of fine sandpaper and very carefully roughed the very edge of the seed pod. Then soaked in water in the dark overnight. Now I have 100% germination! Gotta luv dat. :high-five:

Off topic:
I keep getting stopped by Google getting to this site stating it has malware or malicious software reported. Can't get in until I click on the google warning message and choose proceed anyway.
Any of you guys know who I contact at 420 magazine to let them know of the problem? I have looked at all of the tabs up top here and can't locate where to contact.
Thanks!

EDIT: Never mind...found the link to "contact us". :-)

Awesome. That was getting rather irritating. LOL

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Okay then, the last two toddlers are up and under the light. Yey! I'm only waiting now on planting the seed that popped a couple days ago.
I never thought I would have all ten to work with............holy smokes...where am I going to put ten plants??
Keep some in veg...while others are in flower? Hmmmmm
I added some soil around the growing seedlings stem to help keep them strong and not too stretchy.

Some of my posts will be for my later reference only, so don't feel like you have to respond guys.:)

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Im also a first time grower:) just outdoor, i just found out one of my plants was female!:)
just saying this because i looked for first time growers once i started my first and maybe it help you too!:peace:
sub`d:popcorn:
:welcome: Glad to have you, and congrats on finding the first official "female". :thumb:

I don't get home for about 3 hours yet, so won't be able to answer a PM until then. I'm still at work (SHHHHH...don't tell the boss!):;):

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

ok cool no worries, ill still be going through the journals,

once i got caught up ill drop you a pm, possibly be in 2 or 3 hours as ive got a long list of subbed journals to catch up on,

so no rush,

dont worry we wont tell the boss but make sure you delete cookies and history so he cant check what your doing, its pretty easy on a network to catch people out so try and cover your tracks,
