Hi Jay,Hey Canna...great set up...did you just put them in 12/12?...if so, I would raise the screen...if its been a couple weeks, looks perfect
Hi Jay,
no they are still on 18/6. I've been wondering when to go to 12/12, but I think I'll give them a few days. Not sure why I would need to raise the screen? Can you expound on that? I'm so new at this....LOL
I have found its best let them grow into the screen and then tuck the branches to fill it out ....they will stretch a lot when you switch to 12/12...raising the screen will allow you to manipulate your branches more to gain more bud sites...it will also help control your height better which I think you mentioned was a concern
everything looks great...nice work
Thanks PeeJay! I did some tucking when I put them in there, but I was pulling them back up through the next square. I'll go through tomorrow and start doing as you described above. You guys are great!!Nice work, Canna! I don't think there is a problem with the screen level. You need to be able to water all around the plant, and clean out underneath if necessary. It shouldn't be hard in your case because the girls are lined up single file. With two rows of plants the watering and cleaning out becomes more of an issue.
As Jay says, start tucking the tops under the screen. You are going to grow sideways instead of up for a while. Let the tops grow up for a few days and then tuck them down under the screen. The top will grow up vertically through the next hole in the grid. Nodes lower down on the stem will also grow up into the screen. You'll end up with something like this:
I'm on the 7th day of 12/12 and still doing some minor tucking, but the screen is pretty full. Each one of those tops is going to become a cola. The colas will not be light-blocked by leaves above them. I should end up with a low sea of buds.
Check out Dutch Dragons plant of the month winner. It is one of the finer examples I've seen.
Okay, that's what I thought you were referring to. I can't really lift the screen right now, but I know I should have put them under the screen a lot sooner than this. I'll know better next time. When I get this first grow down...there will be lots of lessons learned in my school books.
Thanks PeeJay! I did some tucking when I put them in there, but I was pulling them back up through the next square. I'll go through tomorrow and start doing as you described above. You guys are great!!
Oh, and Peejay..did you remove the large lower fan leaves when you started tucking? I'm sure the plants need them, but wasn't sure how long. There are some very large fan leaves toward the bottoms that aren't going to get much light. Whaddya think?
Will do Techman, and thank you!Nice design and great re-use of products. If you think your lights can handle it, give them time to fill in the screen weaving in/out as they grow all the way to the edges. The longer you veg the better off you will be when you flowering. Other than that, A big Thumbs Up!
I've seen others do exactly what you described...so I say "If it works, leave it the heck alone!"That's what I do. Of course, I'm a noob and may be doing it wrong....
I found them at Walgreens exactly where you said!CVS and Walgreens have them in the tobacco section behind the registers. Training and quickie cleaning of the one hitter, win win!
Good luck.
Thanks Rain! If I could nominate me, I would too. Cuz' I'm about as rookie as you get....but I can read, so that's a big plus.Wow Canna, that is looking amazing! I missed a lot in a short time! I love the little mutt, I am glad you let her live
I don't think the ph being at 7 is an issue, since the soil has elements which naturally buffer things. I have heard of people testing runoff, but it sounds like a pain to catch it. On that note, be sure that water does not 'sit' in the trays, that is the only detail I would worry about. Everything is looking phenomenal. If there was an award for Rookie of the year, I would nominate you for sure I can't wait to see how things develop! +reps for such great work.
