Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Transplant looks solid and so do your teenagers. Looked like your timing was right on, and the roots were a healthy white. When transplanting I always make sure that the soil is slightly moist. A lot of people also add some root growth hormone. I think it probably just speeds things up a bit, but is not a must. It is a lot of work transplanting isn't it? I don't know how people transplant from really big pot to giant pot. Maybe I need to start lifting weights! I threw some reps at ya for the solid work transplanting. At this point I would add a small fan to gently add some airflow. This will strengthen the stems and help prevent PM and fresh air to the plants. At first you can have the fan aimed indirectly, like at a wall on the lowest setting, or even up at the light. You can also put it on a timer so that the fan goes for 5 min every hour or so.

Hey Rain thanks for the reps, even though it wouldn't let ya. LOL
I do have a fan in there, but it wasn't on a timer. That's a good idea. ;-)
It did take me two hours to get the transplanting all done, yes it is work. But I should have much healthier plants now and I won't have transplanting to worry about now. I hope they don't outgrow those buckets! I have some deeper buckets but not enough for the number of plants I have right now. I am sure I won't have 9 female plants in the end.....but hey...one can always hope!
The way the roots were looking, I don't think I really need a growth hormone.
Let's see how things roll from here.:)

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

looking good, they wasnt to root bound in the cups so they wasnt suffering,

now the wrinkled plant may well be white widow, most strains even f1 seeds will always have at least 2 pheno types and more, so you could plant 10 white widow seeds and end up with 3 totally different plants, for example say you grew gdp, you might have 1 plant with the purple pheno type and another that dont turn purple so that would be 2 pheno types, most if not all strains have at least 2 pheno types,

im in the middle of producing 2 new strains that im going to work with over several generations to perfect, the one is gdp cheese, its ken estes gdp cross with purple cheese, now ive got 6 growing in veg stage and i can clearly see 3 different pheno types, one looks like a solid indica plant and the others have bigger and thinner leaves, so ill clearly need to work with the best pheno type and keep it in clone form to keep back crossing with while i try and produce a stable strain,
so even thought it is white widow it might just be a different pheno type in that batch of seeds, it also looks like its not a stable cross to me as it has genetic issues, some strains you get this from time to time, over a year ago i grew blue mystic and had major problems with deformed leaves and it died at the 4th node, on searching the net i found at least 15 other growers with the same problems, some on this site and some on other sites,

anways that batch of seeds was all from the same breeder, we all bought from 3 different seed banks and all of us was having the same problem and all our plants looked the same so clearly their was a problem with that batch of seeds, it could of been the breeder crossed a bad cross that produced the weaker mutant genetic or it could of been the way the seeds where stored, most plants will sort themselves out after the 4th or 5th node, but this blue m didnt sort itself out it just stopped growing then died, all of us had this problem, so the seed banks pulled that batch of seeds from sale, ive bought more blue mystic now so will be giving it another try as it sounds like a nice strain.

so dont worry about it not looking like white widow, unless the seeds got mixed up at source it should still be white widow, just a different pheno type.

everything looks good though,

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Came back to make good on the reps delivery. I think the hormone just speeds things up a bit, I have not worried about it either. Eventually I want to give a grow 100% effort and chance at being close to optimal. I think I will buy one of DocBud's kits come spring.

Yeah, I've been looking at that kit myself. Maybe next year here too.
Eventually I want to get a perpetual grow in order. But I need to get that first grow down to make sure everything will be good to go. The winter temps will tell me a lot in that basement, I don't want to invest a lot of time and money and then find out it's going to be too cold down there and I would have to heat it. That would be big bucks to heat. I'm hoping the lighting will take care of any heat they will need. It certainly never falls below 50 down there, but we've had some pretty harsh winters here the last two years, not to mention some incredibly damaging storms this summer. I've been saying it more often.... "The last person out of Michigan, please turn off the lights!"

Thanks for stopping back, I'm heading over to your journal to see what new critters you've captured on the cam. LOL

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Thanks DonPaulP,
They weren't too bad on root when I transplanted but you should have seen them before they went into the larger cups. Poor kids. LOL

You are doing very interesting things, I would love to have the time to experiment with creating new strains and all that cross pollination stuff. I envy you.
I guess I'll have to wait awhile on the nodes with the mutant, although I think it's kind of cute the way it is. LOL
I definitely need to study up on the different leaf types and grow patterns for different strains. So much to learn. but so much fun. Interesting reading will always stay with you. However, I believe in the old saying "Tell me I'll listen....but SHOW me and I will understand". That is why I love this site so much, the pictures and step by step guides that people engage in is what does it for all of us.
I'll be heading to your journal tonight too. :) Thanks for all you do.

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

I will add some pictures in the morning, the only thing really happening is flowers growing. They are popping out all over. It is super fun to watch! You are going to just love it. Wow I wish I had a basement, I would turn that thing into some Dr. Frankenstein lab. We would have all kinds of mutants . I bet if you set up some kind of HID light the basement will be perfect in the winter. We might be moving to a place with an extra room and/or basement. I can't wait for that. I hate moving so much, but at least having that extra room and it just being me and my gf will be great. I have not seen anything else quite like Doc's kit, he gets tricomes all the way on the tips of big fan leaves, you can't even see the tops of the leaves on some...it is hard to argue with that type of result. But exactly like you said the environment has to be really good, or it won't work anyway. At least not well. Keep up the great work. I always enjoy your pictures! I personally think that the mutation may have been cause by the seed popping out of its shell funny, or sticking at a node when the leaves came out. The plant that I LST'd had very odd leaves for a long time. I think I told you this before. My memory is not so good. I don't know if I thought it before, or actually wrote it. I have too much tetrahydocannabinol in my system to look back!

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Does anyone have a formula for adding PH down and up to water in some way? My new water PH is at 8.9 and I tried to drop it with PH down but there is no guide on the bottle to tell you how much to add to achieve a certain PH level. I had to guess and I wound up dropping it down to 2.9! Thanks if you can help there.

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

When I was using PH down I would only add like 1/8 tsp per gallon maybe it was less I dont remember exactly but it all depends on what PH you are starting at so it differs for each person. You dont need much though I know that and also its not advised to use up after using down or down after up so if you over shoot its best to dump and redo it.

Thanks Cas, I know now that I added too much PH down. I wasn't even going to attempt to try to take it back up, so thanks for confirming that. :-) I'll start with a new batch tonight and go about 1/8th tsp. at a time until it's right.
Have a great day!

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Hi canna, If possible use a syringe to add the PH up/down, you can get them from your local pharmacy, or you can get one in boxes of children's liquid advil/tylonol. Much easier to apply and more accurate. A little PH up/down goes a long way, start by adding just a few ml. then add more if necessary.

Keep up the good work young Padawan.........The "green force" is growing stronger inside you:thumb:
I will keep "the force" strong and healthy sir!

Great Idea, another way I can re-use old items. I have some syringes left over from when I used to have horses. I will dig those out. Thanks!:thanks:
