Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Ohhhhh I am so jealous of your wardrobe idea for drying buds. I need something like that myself still. My girlfriend is gonna get so mad if I use her walk in closet for drying nugs.

Plants are looking great! :thumb:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Everything in your grow is looking "tits" Canna.........The wrinkling is pretty normal for seelings, at least in my personal expierence.
They will grow out of it as the roots expand and branch out.
Keep on keeping on.................:thumb: + reps

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

i agree with all the above comments, king is spot on with it been algae, this is caused by the light shining on a wet or damp surface, so its not a problem as it will die as the pot dries out but will appear again but as long as its not over watered then it wont turn into a problem,

now the problem plant should turn out ok, ive had plants like this and by the 3rd set of true leaves their back to normal, it could be any number of reasons why its started growing like that, it could be that it wasnt planted deep enough and the seed shell came off to early as i got the same problem when i remove a seed shell thats not falling off or if i dont plant them deep enough, so it should sort itself out and grow as normal.

everything thing looks good,

nice work

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Wow, I can't believe how much these leaves spread out between yesterday and today!
Here's 3 of the toddlers today:

And this pic is of half of the veggie room. I should have plenty of room for 9 plants here and can expand it if needed:

The thing standing up next to the plants is a fan, I had put a make shift stand for it out of wood pieces. It is blowing against the wall across from the seedlings so they get a gentle breeze, not full force fan air.

I am so happy with how they are coming along, it's GROW TIME:yahoo:

Hi DonPaulP:
You could be right on with the seed not being planted deep enough, I do recall having to pull a seed pod off one of the leaves early on and thought that I may not have planted deep enough. These are good notes to keep for future grows for sure!
:thanks:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

no worries,

plants look great, have some reps,
their about to explode with growth, when the next set of leaves grow they will start growing like weeds,

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Hi Gang!
I will be checking the toddlers' root systems this Saturday to see if they are ready for transplanting. If they are, I'm wondering if I should start them in the pots with 1/4 strength nutes, or would you just give them water the first couple of days so they don't go into shock from the change?
Appreciate the advice! I'm using the 3 part General Hydroponics system. :battingeyelashes:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

your girls look good Canna, they growing very well. Its up to you if you wanna start nutes once you transplant, but maybe start on an 8th strength for the first feeding, then up to a fourth strength etc..just to err on the side of caution. Doesn't the soil already have some nutrients in it?

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

HI Stealthgrow!
Yes, it does. Here's a clip of information from their website:
"the incorporated nutrient package is not intended to provide season-long feeding. Plants will generally have a plentiful, balanced nutrient supply to sustain healthy growth for approximately 3-4 weeks (less if under "accelerated" culture). After establishment it's recommended to supplement with soluble, slow-release or additional organic fertilizers."

Looks to me like I should be good for a couple weeks on nutes? That would be nice. ;-):thanks:

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

you wont need to use nutrients strait away, if your transplanting into new soil then it should easily support the plant for the next 2 weeks, my plants will easily go 2 weeks in the smaller first size pots then when i transplant into the final bigger pots they can go another 2 sometimes 3 weeks without any signs of needing nutes,

so id transplant then water them in well and leave it at that until the roots have grown and started using the nutrients, if you transplant then give nutes it might be to much for the plants as their now in new compost/soil that already has enough nutes in it, if you did want to use nutes then id use less than 1/4 strength to begin with as the new soil should be ok for the 2 weeks after transplant

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Well POOH! Looks like I've got a problem. I checked on the plants tonight and found two with something going on with the leaves.
Here's the first, it has brown discolorations going on:
LeafProb2.jpg

Here's the second, it is starting to turn a whitish yellow color:
LeafProb11.jpg

Can anyone identify what could be causing this so I can fix them up?

My humidity is at 57% and the temp is at 75 F
The algae color has become quite prominent in the topsoil of one of the cups too. Although I am only watering every 3 days or so when it feels dry.

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

THanks Hijinks and Donpaul.p!
I just got to thinking when I first planted the seeds and thought I may have over watered, I dumped out the excess water and pushed down on the soil a bit to try to drain as much as I could. I wonder if I didn't take away the soil nutrients doing that in an unintended flush?
Whaddyathink?
Hijinks prompted that thought when he said yellowing leaves etc., because the second pic shows the leaf yellowing

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Hi Canna the setup is looking great, very tidy, it reminds me of a science lab. In order to multi-quote you click a button on the bottom right hand corner of any post. I has a "+ surrounded by a tiny gray caption. Click on the posts you want to respond to and you will see a blue check-mark. Then click 'Reply to Thread' in the bottom left hand corner. This should solve it for you. You can go to 'go advanced' and it will show you what it will look like before you post it to be sure you got it right. I hope this helps!

Your soil looks very wet to me. I am very green myself but I believe that if the roots stay wet for too long they become starved for oxygen, this can also lock out nutrients. I am sure others can add to this. The new growth looks good, so I think they will be okay. Transplanting them sooner may be a good idea if this is the case. It could negate whatever is going on with the plants. I hope this is helpful.

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

yep their clearly over watered, you see the leaves sort of wrinkling well this is a sign their over watered, plus the algae growing suggest that the soil is constanly wet or damp, when it dries out the algae dies so it say you have possibly over watered, do the pots drain ok when you water, what i do is let my pots dry out and you can then see the soil shrink away from the edges, then when its nearly dry i water well till their is run off, i let my pots sit in the dish for about an hour after watering and they then suck up the water they need, then i throw away the run off thats still in the dish so the plants can get oxygen to the roots,

so i dont think you got a problem, id say its just over watering by the looks of it, you should easily go 2 weeks in the small pots with no nutrients then when you transplant you should go another week or 2 before the plants need anything,

its a good idea to fill a pot the same size up with the same growing medium and leave it dry, then you have got something to compare the weight to, then you just lift the pots up and if its heavy it dont need watering, when their not far off the same weight you then know its time to water, over watering will drastically slow growth down, i did the same thing when i started growing, my plants didnt grow and i thought they needed more water so kept giving them more water, then someone told me to stop watering so i did, then the plants grew like crazy.

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

looks like both me and rainstacks posted comments at the same time, we both pretty much said the same thing, its all about the oxygen, the roots need oxygen as much as they need water, give them to much water and they cant get any oxygen, when they dont get oxygen the roots rot and thats when you get major problems as the plant cant get the water and nutrients it needs, so leaves wilt and start to die,

Re: Newest of Noobs..from set up to growing and harvesting

Hi guys, quick response here.
I had just watered them before I took the picture, so that's why it looks wet. But I certainly agree with the over watered theories! I'm guessing that's why I have the algae spreading in the one cup. When I watered tonight on most of them the water just went right through to the bottom and out the drain holes. I'm going to stop watering until I see the soil looks greyish like it did when it was straight from the bag. I will still plan on transplanting this weekend, that way they will get into some dryer soil. I was doing the lift the cup method, but can't quite get that down yet. I'll fill a separate cup with just non-watered soil to get a "feel" for it. :-)
Thanks a bunch!:thanks:
