Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & More!

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

I kind of winged it on this. But, what the hell. Let's give it a shot and see what we got!

I treated the plants at the pond and in the cove. These are the ones closest to the house at the pond area. They are getting increasingly yellow by the day, that could be from not enough moisture staying with them. You can see how dry the dirt is, and it's tough to keep moist. That area is a slope that gets worse every year. I won't attempt to plant there next year. Could be why the Rhododendron bush next to them has never really made it either. I allowed the honeysuckle to take over there to develop a root system to keep erosion down. And there is no stopping honeysuckle no matter how dry it gets here.

I dug a trench around each plant and loosened up the top 3 inches or so of soil. Then layered the pond weeds in them with the pond soil and liquor they came out with.
I buried that with a layer of sand and then topped them with some more pond weeds.

The same with the girls at the cove, who are actually looking better to me today.

Ya know, we could start a nutrient line... use part of your handle and part of mine.

Lets see.... CannaBeaver? BeaverFan? FannaBeaver?

Well, we could change it up a bit for the guys....."FannaBeaver".

Seriously folks, this really IS a grow journal. I promise!

Gotta have fun.

{{{YAWN}}} Coffee...NOW!

Today is compost pile day. I have to keep busy today while I wait for results of Mom's surgery. Best way to do that is keep my hands in grimy slimy weeds? LOL

I did a little looking into whether the compost needs to be in the Sun and it was 50/50 yes and no. So, it will be partial sun/shade.
I won't be throwing any food items on it, I don't want it constantly dug into by critters and dragged around the lawn. This will be earthy stuff only that I can just toss and flip around as I get pond weeds and leaves and wood chips.

Hope everyone has a great day! I'll fly some updates as I get them. I need to do a sex check on the other White Kush Bomb today, hoping for another female. :)

:circle-of-love:

Well, I will be adding eggshells and coffee grounds..things like that. But no fruity stuff. Any disagrees on that?

Auto Fast n Vast x Master Kush is really picking up speed on flowers compared to the rest of the girls outside. Loving this!
I need to come up with a name for this home grown strain too.

And there was leaf chewing damage overnight.....

Katy did it!!

katydid1.jpg

I've been waiting for the Katydid damages to start, I just didn't expect one that big right in my face so early in the morning. LOL

Seriously though, they do some major damage if left uncontrolled.

Pretty sure this is a leaf chewer too. I just have to find it's name. There were small holes on a couple of leaves he was roaming on.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Yepper, makes sense. That black and yellow beetle is a "spotted cucumber beetle". There are cucumbers growing very near the outdoor girls, with major leaf damages on them.
Time for a spray of DE on them, see if it helps.

This fall and winter I am adding a special beverage for the girls on the menu.

Coming soon will be Pond Weed Tea! A special blend of several pond weed varieties, including but not limited to: Eurasian Milfoil, Duckweed, Pondweed, and Coontail.

Packed with rich natural nutrients, this fertilizing pond weed tea blend should promote health and vigor for all the girls.

It is being brewed in the natural pond liquor and soil remnants from where it came. No chemicals or additives/preservatives, just years of natural fish poo...and the droppings of the occasional snapping turtle, among other water critters. Oh, and we cannot forget the waterfowl contributors to the liquor blend.

Start with the container. This was a bin I was going to use years ago for a first grow doing hydro. That's why the holes are in the lid:

Find a saturated area of weeds, wasn't hard to do at this particular end of the pond:

Gather the weeds and add pond water:

Stir, brew...stir...brew... during the coming couple of months. I will leave it covered. And it's supposed to get stinky after a few weeks. From what I've read this needs to brew a few months. But I'm going to try some after a few weeks and see how it does.

That's gonna be so slimy and stinky! Better get some nose clips so you don't smell it. Lol!! Our compost tea smells so terrible. Lol

I was expecting the stinky. :thanks: So, the tote is going in the barn until it's ready. It supposedly gets real stinky for awhile and then settles down to an earthy smell. We'll see on that. I know fish emulsion teas are pretty stanky too.

Mosquito breeding ground? Around here it would have to have some dunks.

pond_weed_tea_2.jpg

Good point. If I don't cover standing water out here within at least two days, I do have mosquito breeding automatically. So, this will stay covered and in the barn for sure. I brought in a bucket of rainwater I had left for a few days outside without being covered, and put it in the flower room, covered it. A few days later I went to use it and when I opened it a hoard of mosquito's flew out. Won't do that again. Rain water comes in right away now.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

The Custard Cream clone outside with the yellowing leaves got a treatment today. I'm trying the Sierra Natural Science Perfect Mix Grow formula. That one contained the most percentage of Nitrogen. I also added some CalMag to the water.

Now what will happen? It will rain today and wash it all out.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

The compost pile has been created. This worked out quite well, it's where I dump my grass clippings and leaves. It's close to the wood pile, so I can throw wood chips/sawdust in on occasion. It's also where I dump the plant stumps after harvesting.
I did throw in some tomatoes and some mutant cucumbers cut up, and some coffee grounds. It will be nice to have a place to dump scraps now. (no meats) I have a whole pail full of eggshells that are headed out there later.
I just need to find my pitchfork. It's not fun tossing that pile with a rake.

This pile kind of blends in, hard to tell it's there. LOL

This an area where it will get sun in the mornings, then shade during the warmer afternoon.

I have a tarp set aside to cover this during the winter too.

Re: Cannafan's Perpetual Grow - Where Everything Changes - Autos - Photos - Seeds & M

Last work for the day, I treated all the girls with more DE today. This stuff must be working, I did find a dried carcass of a leaf hopper on a plant yesterday.
The leaf hoppers last year were my main enemy in the critter war, second were the worms.

I found a description of what DE does to bugs that I thought was funny. Read the last line:

Diatomaceous Earth (often referred to as "DE") is an off white talc-like powder that is the fossilized remains of marine phytoplankton. When sprinkled on a bug that has an exoskeleton (such as bed bugs, ants or fleas) it compromises their waxy coating so that their innards turn into teeny tiny bug jerky.

Well that explains my cowboy beetle problem.. Jerky offerings...
