CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013-14

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

Gratz on the Clone CannaMeds im sure the others will soon follow suit :thumb:

Thanks Cron! It's sort of like having a seed sprout or something, isn't it?

What is faster growth? A new seed or a clone? I'm thinking clone...

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

Watered and fed the DawgFather 1 lady. I bent down a couple of tops on the big DF2 lady with some wire. Things are getting crazy in the tent. In the next few days, the Blue Cheese is going in.

I also need to unbind some of the branches on Penny, like I did with the other two. They get big quickly.

Lots of single pistils everywhere, but they aren't really showing that they're flowering yet.

Life is good! I love growing...

Ya know, I was just thinking about this yesterday. My WW seed (Blanca) sprouted on January 10th. My most vigorous bubbler clone was put in dirt on 1/15 at about 2 inches of height and four nodes. The WW has overtaken the bubbler clone in growth, not in height, but definitely in width and side branching. My clones seem to grow straight up with no branching for a long time unless they're really bent over with LST.

Life is definitely good... especially with :bongrip:

Dresney, that's interesting feedback! There should be some testing done on this topic.

A seed from the same strain, and a cutting. The seed has to start dry at the same time you take the clone cutting. Compare them side by side for a month or two.

I would watch!!! I think that is a very good question....:high-five:

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

Hi guys, can I just interject here? A seed takes enormous energy to germinate, but once this hormonal system is stimulated every bit of the energy goes directly into development of roots and most energy going into the meristem. This has the energy to really press out true leaves, then sets, nodes, etc.

When you take a cutting, all the energy goes toward developing roots, even weakening the plant until this can occur. The plant not only uses all its energy to develop roots, but it also has to find an alternate way to transfer water up and down through the vascular system of the plant. This is why I would say take a cutting, then cutting it again under luke warm water to assure no air bubble gets trapped at the cut.

I would love to see a side by side under controlled circumstances. So much depends on how people cultivate and that is more of a determining factor than taking a sterile cutting into sterile mix, or a seed put into coir and germinated.

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

Last time I took some clones, I scraped the stem a bit with the razor, which I think helps allow water to get in. This time, I didn't do that. I just cut at a 45 degree angle, again, after the initial cut. Not sure how many will make it out of my 10 cuttings. Still only one has prominent roots poking out. I'll check again tonight. I'm optimistic though!

And Garden, you are right, it certainly depends on how people cultivate. There are so many factors. I just try to give them the best environment that I can, as I think we all do!

Hmm, Cannafan has a bunch of seeds. Maybe she should do a test? I certainly will at some point in the future, when I make some seeds. But that may be a while!

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

Spent some time inspecting the gals in the tent this evening. Penny is insanely bushy. I'm thinking I might need to defol her a little bit. I'm not huge on defol, but she just has so many giant fan leaves stuck inside, overlapping each other and new growth, future bud sites, etc.

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

Instead of removing foliage, have you tried to tuck the fan leaves under the others? I saw this method on Youtube and I have been doing it on my autos. They don't seem to mind very much. I don't think I'll use autos again. Not really all that necessary. It sounded like a good idea to get a fast harvest, but it is not working out that way. Sorry...tangent. HA

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

Ya know I started to get auto seeds at the beginning of all this and I am really sorta glad I didn't. I can't think of a single grower that has said they love them and would continue to grow with them. What I have read says they do not yield well and are quite temperamental. that's all I need is a PMS'ing plant.....:thedoubletake:

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

Yeah, autos don't interest me much. Although, I've heard they might be good for outdoor growers who want an early harvest.

Garden, yes, I tuck fan leaves all the time! I'm constantly re-layering and moving the leaf positions. It's definitely a good way let new shoots get more light.

If I did defol any, it wouldn't be more than a few select leaves per plant. I see some people go nuts with defol or lollypopping. I don't think that's such a good idea myself. All those leaves are a resource for the plant. They are energy collectors and mobile nutrient storage!

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

I do like the idea of removing lower leaves which do not get sun light at all, or if there are baby buds, I remove those too. My very first outdoor, in the ground grow will start soon. I have seeds germinating. Weather is going to start to change over next week with days in 70s and nights in mid to high 30s, not much more freezing, but some for sure. So, these seedlings will go into 4" containers and out into the greenhouse immediately. It doesn't get much below 60 at night in there and usually stays warmer. This way i will have time to top and train and do everything I want to do so I get plants which look nice and not all rangy. This IS my backyard. This is something I am greatly looking forward to. I may even video everything.

I was trying to find how-to videos on soil prep specifically for cannabis or actual practical videos showing beginning to end. Fertilization, etc...There are many videos of plants already growing, nothing much for people prepping the garden or doing chores and maintenance. I can show how I made my visual barrier, why I did it the way I did. Tips, tricks, garden ideas for cannabis. Lots of books explain this in great detail, but I can't see well any more (brain damage from encephalitis).

Someday I will do a test with two identical clones, with similar light and conditions, but one will get defol and small, lower buds, etc removed, and the other will be left to go naturally (both with LST ). I would like to see the end result, in terms of weight and size of main colas.

I would so love to see something like that from soil to chop...:bravo:

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

Quick midweek update:

Been busy the past couple of days, getting things ready for today. I had to mix up some soil and pick up a few things before I could start planting the clones.

I mixed up some new soil, which consists now of the following: ( I want to use up the soil that I have left, before I switch to roots, which I'll use later on when I transplant )
1 part Fox Farms Ocean Forest
1 part Fox Farms Happy Frog
perlite
vermiculite
organic worm castings
organic blood meal
organic Happy Frog fruit & flower fertilizer mix
Roots Oregonism XL Micorrhizae +
Dolomite Lime

The exact amounts for the amendments are unknown, because I only mixed up about 12 gallons of soil right now. I didn't add much blood meal, fertilizer or Dolomite. Really, I was just slightly amending this soil, but I didn't want to make it hot at all. I'll make it hotter as I move them up to bigger pots later on.

This is my own version of 'Super Soil' that I'm experimenting with. I substituted the Happy Frog ferts in place of bone meal, bat guano, etc. because it has most of that in there already in a prepared mix. I didn't add epsom salts, but I will add some of that later on and I can also mix some of that in with waterings

It will be interesting to me to see how this mixture does. The most important thing though is not to burn these babies.

On to a few pics:

4 of 10 cuttings were showing significant roots, so I potted them up tonight:

Two Pennywise and two Dawgfather Pheno 2 clones:

Here's what the tent looks like tonight. Day 8 or 9 of 12/12 I raised up the light about 4 inches a couple of days ago. I'm not sure if I mentioned that in my journal or not.

For comparison, here's what the gals looked like the very first day I put them in the tent, which was on Jan 25th:

That is all for tonight! I'll show a pic of the Blue Cheese clone tomorrow or so. I'll be putting it in the tent as soon as I plant the rest of the clones, which should be in the next day or two, or three lol.

Have a great weedk, everybody.

:Namaste:
