CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013-14

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

What do you do when you get bored on a Tues? Well, I take some pics and do a little update...

The green color in these pics is filtered a bit, in order to counter act the pinks from the light. The color isn't true to what they would look like under daylight.

My plan was to put some tomato cages on these, but they have gotten so big, so fast, that I may have missed the window. Seems like I'll be going with plan B...

This Dawgfather has really grown a lot. It's much wider now than it was just a few days ago. I think she's trying to catch up to Penny...

The other Dawgfather is growing, but she's still a bit behind the others. I'm really wanting to see her have a growth spurt before I flip to 12.

Penny is definitely the biggest still, and she's taller by a few inches, even with me tying her back as much as possible. What I want though, is for her to spread out more, like the DF is doing.

The clones are growing fast. I'll need to transplant them fairly soon. The two dudes are growing like crazy and will be cut back severely tomorrow.

I am looking forward to cloning the girls. Although, I'm worried that they will get big too quickly and be ready to flower before the flowering tent is available... ( My mind is already dreaming of having two flowering tents. lol. Easy, tiger. )

I hope your day is going well and if you're growing, I hope your garden is green and healthy. :)

Very clean set up well done.

So, I have these extra Blue Cheese clones that I need to do something with. I think I'm going to play around with them and do an experiment.

Three of them are getting pretty tall already, and they haven't been transplanted yet. I am going to put them all into one pot and sort of graft them ( pseudo graft I guess ) together and see if I can turn them into a larger plant with three main stalks. The goal will be to keep the pot and plant count down, and to see if I can make these clones appear to be one plant.

This is just an experiment. I would probably be throwing these away anyway, as I don't feel it's worth it to try and drive all over town to find a dispensary that would take them. ( my normal dispensary doesn't need them right now )

Pics to come...

Ah, what the hell. I decided to put all five into one 5 gallon pot.

Tomorrow I'll start up some tea for the whole gang ( compost, super soil, worm castings, micorrhizae & molasses )

The males got cut way back tonight and juiced. Good stuff! There is still some good growth on them though. I'll either keep vegging them or take cuttings for a couple of male clones, just in cased I do decide to collect pollen in the future.

RED ALERT

AHH. Well, some potentially bad news tonight, but I'm not sure.

This is a bit embarrassing, but for the sake of a honest journal, I must report everything that goes on. I really should have had those remaining males out of there a couple of weeks ago. Lesson learned.

I was inspecting the Penny male and found that a couple of male flowers on it developed quickly and it looks like they opened. I pulled them out of the closet and the room. I cut off the branches with the bananas on them and flicked them over some black plastic and there wasn't anything. Now, I don't know if that means no pollen yet, or if all the pollen was already released?

I don't know what this means for the rest of the garden. I also don't know when exactly this happened, but I'm guessing over the past couple of days. Hopefully after I moved the fan out of the closet. The girls haven't started flowering yet, so maybe I'll be safe. I immediately did some vacuuming in there, but I don't know what else I can do.

Does anyone have any suggestions or comments, based on experience?

Re: CannabisMeds' CBD Grow - Pennywise - Dawgfather - Rawdawg - Soil - LED + CFL 2013

any of them flowering females yet? white pistils?
If yes there is a possibility some pollen may have gotten on them
the pollen from these flowers travel far and wide very easily
the last afghan kush skunk I grew was lucky to be almost done the ogk had some
very immature seeds from the male gdp I had in there for too long lol
oh well live and learn
I doubt itll cause a lot of seeds tho especially if the plant is really early in flower
if anything maybe on the nodes of the stem where the single calyx's are

Cronic, thanks for your thoughts.

Yeah, there are only a few female pre-flowers, as they aren't in flower yet.

Also, I read that once a male flower opens, it takes a few days before the pollen forms and releases? Not sure if this is true. I've never flowered a male or collected pollen.

I did see bananas on a herm once, but they didn't pollinate the female at the time. Maybe I got lucky and not much, if any, pollen was released.

I captured the two opened male flowers in a plastic baggy and I've kinda smushed them around a bit in there and I see no yellow dust at all, zip. So either there isn't any yet, or it magically dropped it all.

once the flower open the pollen can drop and it falls off very very easily
so make sure no wind no fans when you move males out with open flowers

Well, sounds like a plastic bag over the plant might be handy in this situation.

Have a great Thursday, Cronic! :thumb:

Well, from what I've read on the internet ( and if it's on the internet, it must be true, right? ) is that pollen can stay viable for a week to two weeks. ( unless it's stored properly, frozen, etc. )

That's good. I think that by the time I'm showing pistils, any pollen that did get out should be 'dead'. Phew. I shouldn't have any accidental seeds this time.

you can neutralize it by wetting it also :thumb:

from my experience the first flowers that open don't have as much pollen as the upper later flowers but as the flower opens the pollen floats away. any pistils that are hit with pollen turn brown buy the next day
