Hey everybody! I’m sorry I disappeared for awhile! Had a lot going on but think I’m getting to a point where I can keep more caught up!
These pics are from what I harvested back at the end of May and early April
Let’s just say I had my largest harvest yet on each plant! Looking at it I wasn’t sure but after weighing it I was very excited ..especially since I was taking the summer off from growing.
These pics are from what I did outside..I was planning on just doing one simple tomato plant on the back patio and the crazy in me as my hubby calls it took over and I took what was once just grass and dug out a 16wx12d foot area 2” deep for a small garden with pebble rocks. I built a privacy wall , then built a standing planter (once had doors and bird cage but storm blew it over because my forgetful self forgot to take off the side fabric shade and it was attached to something else so yeah down it went with the 60 mile an hour wind and broke off half of the plant of the 2 jalapeño plants on the right)
, got a double sided turnable composter then decided to build a mini greenhouse for it (thinking of winter) , didn’t have the greenhouse quite fortified yet and had a storm come thru and the the plastic off the top off but also took half of my big beautiful banana pepper plant that I apparently didn’t have staked well enough
, broke a tomato plant in two places but I took the trick from the pot plants and fixed them
I put up the fabric shade because the plants were drooping terribly and the tomato leaves were curling up once the temps got just above 90* .( Feels like heat has been well over 100 lately) Hubby dug the post holes and I upgraded to 4x4’s and concrete because my first attempt at just using 2x4’s with drainage rock and not being able to dig deep enough didn’t quite hold up, but the new setup has taken a licken and keeps on ticken.
I have since these photos were taken fortified the plastic on the greenhouse (but it’s not pretty yet) and since day one it has been staked into the ground using 4ft rebar with a hook that was beat thru some holes that I drilled on the bottom 2x4’s (has held up so far fingers crossed)… It seemed like daily until recently that I was adding something or on the few days off in between that I needed I would find or think of something else to add
I have never grown anything outside other than some petunias ever so I’ve learned a lot and continue to learn something new everyday! It’s also been a completely organic grow and I’ve been using compost/worm casting teas. I found a completely organic fert off a channel I’ve been watching MIgardner on YouTube and these plants (tomatoes and peppers) have done very well with it.Don’t know if I can say the name of it on here tho.
this next photo is on the left 2 jalapeño peppers 2 just to the right are indeterminate Jet Star Tomatoes and to the right of that an indeterminate chocolate sprinkles cherry tomato
min this one is what’s left of my banana pepper and just to the right a hot habanero pepper
This one is what my planter looked like prior to storm then directly after (June 21st)
Sorry for the long windedness! It’s been awhile and a lot has been goin on
Looking forward to being back on here, getting back in touch with everyone and seeing all y’all’s awesome gardens again!
I won’t be growing anything inside until the temps get in the 80’s so maybe in a month’ish
but will be on here keeping up with y’all in the meantime!
Missed ya around here,lady.
Really glad to see you posting once again.
Missed you too!
