Canadian Growers Group & Friends

Anyone got any good substitute for foxfarm ocean forest. Next year i plan on using 4 50 gallon pots next year. In ontario at the moment a bag of fox farm ocean forest is roughly 26 bucks plus tax at my local hydro shop.

I plan on doing organic next year and am wondering if i could be adding in some triple mix to save a little money rather than filling the whole 50 gallon pots with ocean forest. Maybe a 2:1 ratio between ocean forest and a triple mix blend

If anyone has any cheaper Canadian brands that have similar growing mediums that would be great.

Hope everyone is having a good end to the outdoor grow season

50 gallon pot is super big why not just put in the ground..

im using 7 gallon puts with HP pro mix... and gh ferts.. only benefit of a 50 gallon maybe u can go another
day maybe 2 with out watering .. and plant will be bigger.. hope u use a smart pot..

107 liters hp pro mix is only 45 dollars or so .. i would try 20 gallons before you try 50 gallons..

here is what a 7 gallon can do with nursing ....

I use promix organic potting soil. The batch of vegetable & herb mix wasn't as good as usual this year. I'm going to use the moisture control mix next year. My buddy had had good results with it for the last few years.
I'm in Ontario as well, and it's about $13 for a 25 litre bag, $30 for a 112 litre bale at a big box store.
Yea

i have almost always had them in ground next year is little hairy because i dont know my living situation as our lease might be up around august-September. So i figured my as well have them in pots and able to transport if it comes to that.

My plan was originally to dig new holes i wanted to have bigger holes currently there 3ft diameter 3 feet deep. I want to make my in ground holes 4 diameter by 18 inches deep. Since i would be doing to no till method you are able to reuse soil so i wouldnt worry about buying whole batch of new soil the next year and just top it up instead

The organic potting mix is a peat base with some nutrients added. Those nutrients are gone in about a month, so they don't interfere with feeding. I use it in 7 gallon pots, so just under one bag per pot.
I goofed earlier, it's 28 litres per bag. I get the bales now because they're half the price per litre compared to the bags.

On my indoor grow I make my own supper soil mix with promix HP it works. My out door went straight in the ground nothing added.

Promix HP with the addition of some homemade supper soil in the bottom of the pot for my indoor plants. Straight in the ground for my out door plant....

Ok chungo sounds good your indoor sounds very similar to other super-soils im assuming your adding in a variety of dry amendments?

-3 here last night. Nothing outdoors ......... i don't put myself through it anymore:). Got my arse just about run off from Fiona but taking it easy today. No more problem with mold, I figure a bud got wet when i had to move them. Buds are high maintenance and dainty things. Critical Orange Punch. 2 Electric Sky leds. V1 300 watts. 1 200 watt Spider Farmer added for flowering. Canna coco and salts, EC 1.2. Just starting to leach and should make for great rozin.

mix it dude, FF ocean forest blows arse for drainage so mix it with wood chips and head to your local composite site early in season and get free fertilizer for pots. in fact leave ff out of it ;).
last time i use ff ocean forest i mix 50/50 with pro-mix and it worked very well and drained very nice indoor for me.
* important to go early to composite site to get good soil before everyone else does.

or put them in ground and youtube 'back to eden gardening with mark' and do what this guy is doing but with a little less religion involved. you can't get any more organic and cheaper than this.

what i have done

-i have grown 2 years in same soil in 35g and 45g pots, i used stepwell super soil and pro mix and did 50/50 it cost me just under 300$ to fill 4 pots
- this year i did another 2x35g and 2x45g, 8 bags of Miracle-Gro on sale cost just under $180 . did clones and it was pain at first with time release fert but once plants were big they didn't care.
** i would not mix ff ocean forest with Miracle-Gro because they both suck for drainage, so double sucky.

I wouldn't mix the woodchips in to the mix. Use them as a mulch maybe but they'll steal too much nitrogen from the rest of the mix in the first season or two if you mix them in.

No I have a Method layering perlite.
Bill284 Method.
I grow huge root systems that support massive buds.
In my Heavens Shores thread.
I have 20 pictorials explaining everything.
It's a matter of layering perlite, Bokashi, frass & @DYNOMYCO
Easy to do and work really well.

Stay safe
