Day 53 @ 12/12

Sorry I have not had much time lately to do updates. The pics below were taken on day 53. I have switched up the nutes somewhat adding Overdrive. I have stopped using Bud Factor X, Rhino Skin, and Bud Candy.

They are fattening up but they still seem way behind for day 53.

Grow Notes.
9 and 8-10 week strain. We are currently on week 7. PPM and PH are right where they should be. Everything is going great except I am still disappointed with the performance of the lights. Do these plants look 1-3 weeks from harvest?

Bux, as for being behind. I would just sit tight for now. Until it's past or in it's window and looks like it's not finished.

How long has it been since you let HGL know there was an issue with the lights and aero?

Apart from the aforementioned known issues showing in the leaves/foliage, looks pretty good there Bux. Personally I don't like seeing any unevenness in the height of canopies at all, but that's because of my preference for ScroG; I'm a big fan of redistributing auxins as uniformly as possible (like Slimm's current) in lieu of trying to go for larger central colas. But yeah, maybe a bit smaller than I'd expect if it was HPS at this point...

Plants will tend to finish up on their own time frame, regardless of what the seed package says or our own expectations. Almost all your pistils are still white, I'm sure your trichomes are still largely clear or cloudy with little or no amber too, right?

Best to keep feeding them until they turn the corner and let them do their thing, otherwise you'll just do your plants and yourself a disservice. People always seem to chop 'em early for some reason...

Hope you've got something else stashed away to tide you over until then!

Regards,

-TL

Hey TL, welcome abord. I had a Cal def due to PH lockout for a few days and thats the aftermath. That was a few weeks ago. The problem has been fixed but I have been keeping an eye on everything just in case. I wish I could have kept them more even but the carnival is a short strain and was always behind the WW. Thats actually why I crammed a 2nd light in there. I wanted to be able to adjust the light to keep them both under best possible conditions. I took some clones of each of these and have two growing in the exact same hydro system under HPS so I can compare them further. They look like they are going to go long but it seems that a lot of LEDs have this effect. They are mostly clear and cloudy. So far no amber. I have a large stash so I wont be chopping them until they are finished.

The more of the LED grows I watch, the more I'm convinced that the technology just isn't there. I believe that, at this point, the best use for these lights would be as supplementary side lighting. Unfortunately, the cost is way out of line for something of limited benefit...Think of how many cfl/tube flouros you could buy for the same money.

Warbux, you've done a great job with what you have to work with, but I firmly believe that the technology is letting you down. Eventually, some smart person is going to figure this out, but they haven't got it yet.

+rep for your efforts

It's hard to get an accurate comparison. Ultimately you have to look at the wet yield in grams/watt and then compare the wet yield to the total cost of the lighting. From what I'v seen, the most economical and effective grows seem to be using 600w MH/HPS or T5 8x54w fixtures. These LED lights are just way too expensive IMHO for what you get and if you were able to buy enough to fully replicate the yield of a 600w HPS - you'd be looking at alot of heat being generated.

Hey War, sorry I didn't catch it but do you have a problem with your light other then the results so far?

Yea I have a light that blinks.

Hey Southern. I agree totally. It is painfully obvious that these lights are the limiting factor in my grow. Had I went with CFLs I could have gotten the same or better results for half the price. I will be using HPS in my real flower room with the two LEDs I am keeping for veg.

I couldnt agree more. Two of these lights were sold to me as out performing a 600w HPS and its clearly not the case. Its not a total loss. These lights seem to veg as well or better then an MH with much less heat. Obviously anyone in there right mind wouldnt buy these things just to veg with because of cost but anyone who already has them can at least find a use for them.

Yeah I just purchased a Sun Blaze 48 4' x 8 bulb - T5 HO fixture complete with 6500k bulbs for $203 inc shipping. Sure it'll cost me anoth $18 for a set of 3000k bulbs, but for that price I would take a light like that any day over any of the LED stuff out there.
