BrixNewb's First Grow & Beyond

Damn dude.......it doesn't get any easier with the bottles. If anything it is harder to keep a plant healthy. There is probably just one thing that you haven't figured out that is causing your issues. Are you battling mites?? How's the quality of your produce? That's what really matters. Are you unhappy with that?

Good luck!:passitleft:
If you want simplicity, go with Osmocote+. My first grow was a OC+ grow. Mix or topdress and water when needed. Done. I got a bottle on sale for $5-6. There is a in-depth topic here about OC+. Doc bud was a part of. That's how I learned about HB. Return that other stuff that will be more work than the kit.

Tead has tried to get me on the hempy/OC train, I don't think it's what I want.

Well I guess I will see then. I know it's something I am doing or not doing that is causing the issue. My soil energy is always going flat. I know that I am not spraying De-Stress as often as I should and when I need to Rescue Drench I am always late with it. Despite that I always harvest 3+ ounces and the product is top notch. I have had mites in the past for different reasons, but right now I don't show any signs of mites. I am spraying De-Stress twice a week on anything that isn't looking 100%. I am not giving up on the kit, I actually just mixed another batch of soil to cook, I am just exploring another growing method at the same time. Actually have two clones, one will be bottle nutes and one in the kit, a side-by-side comparo.

I just read the last 4 pages. Here are my observations:

1. You're not actually following directions with drench schedule, especially Transplant. You may have corrected that as of two pages ago.
2. You're spraying way too often, especially when the plants aren't thriving.
3. You've harvest some really, really nice looking buds recently

I'd toss those two laggards out and move on. Every now and then I have to cull a plant that for whatever reason doesn't grow right.

Advanced Nutrients vs. Osmocote+......I actually did a comparison between the two years ago. OC+ was the clear, easy winner.

What kind of water are you using?
Are you using Promix or Sunshine?

I did OC+ in plain soil. Literally just tap water. Anyways sounds like your doing just fine with the kit. Just need to work out a few details. 3ozs from one plant in soil is on the high side, yield wise. Hi Brix is about quality. I on my first HB grow and I messed up a lot, All four of my plants hermied, and now are seedy. I will have the highest quality seedy weed around. Next grow won't be bagseeds.

Promix HP and RO water at around 8ppm.

1. Ok, as I understand it now it's alternating Growth and Transplant drench between one 1/4 Transplant water except for Cat and towards harvest, that's what I am up to now.

2. Got it.

3. My buds are consistently really nice, never had an issue with the buds, that's why I keep running the kit. I just wonder if I couldn't up my yield if I can keep the plants healthy throughout the life cycle.

I think I am doing fine with the kit, but I figured since I have everything I needed besides the nutes, it wouldn't hurt to toss a small amount of change towards an experiment and see how the AN works for me. I am actually able to do a side by side comparison with two clones, so I am excited to see how it turns out.

I have only had one plant hermie on me, that was Cookies Kush, which is known to hermie. Beyond that I did have one plant throw out a couple bananas right at harvest, but as per Doc this can happen and the bananas are usually not a problem.

I think the side by side will be fun. Just let me help you out on drench and folia r timing....

I am honestly all ears to any advice and always have been. Just kinda bums you out when you are that guy always looking for help and just can't seem to get it right. For ease I will be posting up in your thread and just keep this to journaling.

And yes, I think a side by side will be interesting. I have only ever grown with the kit so it will be interesting to see what the kit does versus bottled nutes. I have a hypothesis already formed, we will see if it is true or not.

BrixNewb,
High and good afternoon.
I seen this before. :)
So has Doc and Shiggity and...
I started my previous grow as a side by side.
It turned out a no contest in favor of Brix over coco/hydro.
Your mileage may vary.

Interesting. I appreciate you coming through with the info, I had missed that somehow. We will see how my experiment turns out.

Please let me help you with the drenches and timing so you can learn AND kick AN's ass at the same time!

I am always down for help, what do you need from me?

I posted up in the Doc Bud thread that the flush then Rescue Drenches are working nicely. Did that to all the veg plants that needed help. In bloom I have one plant that looks really rough, thinking flush then Rescue:

Yes....that's the way.

It is now a fact: everytime I see weird root issues these days it's always in a fabric pot.

The flushing and Rescue Drench is complete.

I have issues in veg when I use exclusively 1 gallon plastic pots, so I don't think I am part of the evidence against soft pots, I am just a lazy and unobservant grower. However, I have heard your observation and was actually looking into hard pots last night, not sure I can source what I want locally, but I found some online and am going to give them a go once I get a few bucks in the pocket.

So things are getting better in veg. A few have had to be Rescue Drenched, but others have not. Some are yellow due to mites, but I am pretty sure that we have them under control for now. Were never too bad.

Ok, it may not be you Brix. Take a breath and try to regain the bruised confidence. There's an obvious problem with something in the kit, and right now no one knows what it is. Here's my Malawi this morning.

And the other girls I have in the same soil and using the same methods showing no signs of whatever's going on.

Duggan and Gazoo show the same problem.

We have a mystery, and I'd bet my life it has nothing to do with our skills. You're better than this, and you know it.

My problem child is in a fabric pot too, but her roommates don't show this problem. This is similar to what happened to my Carn 3, and we never solved the mystery there either.

I wish I could blame the kit, but it's the same issues I have had since I started two years ago, I am thinking I am not scrutinizing the girls enough, being lazy and unobservant. No worries though. Your look completely different than any problems I have had. I am getting better and seeing my own progress though, so that's good. I will get it.

At this count, there are seven of us, including you, having the same problem. I really don't think it's you Brix.
