BrixNewb's First Grow & Beyond

I have a suggestion for the Blue Dream ...

It might be wise to open that fat cola a bit, to keep any sneaky rot from starting. Something like a pencil is easy to poke in there and pull the bigger side buds out a bit so they don't fit so tightly against the rest of the cola. You'll also probably see pale leaves on the insides - it's nice to get both light and air in there.

:Namaste:

:bravo:

Thanks for that GT. I opened her up a bit and she looked good at the top. She is sitting right in front of the tower fan so hopefully that keeps any rot at bay. The other plants aren't as thick so they are fine.

So a while back there were some discussion about the trichomes on High Brix plants not going amber and subsequently how to tell when to chop. A few mentioned plucking tester buds and I decided to give that a go. Both Blue Dream and Jack Herer are getting close, so about a week ago I chopped some lower Blue Dream buds and let them dry a few days and had my tester go to work. Said it was decent but I didn't get enough material to do a full test. So today was the first full test of Blue Dream and off of nonwashed, noncured, semidried bud it's already the best produce so far, beating out both Blueberry Headband and Dusted Bud Genetics Pliny Lights x Cali Dreamin. So when I got home I got her washed and chopped, another 5-7 days and she should be in jars.

So that would make it new personal best! :slide: Ya gotta love personal bests!

They sure look tasty to me from here! Grats!

It absolutely is a new personal best for me, although I want to get a couple other testers feedback. Looking like the yield might also be another personal best, time will tell.

The Blue Dream I run kicks the shit out of everything else. Its a very commercially "boring" strain that ppl think they dont want, but mine always comes out yielding, the gooeyest, and with a real nice berry smell. I always end up smoking more of the Master Kush it seems, I love that shit, but the BD is special. Its also just straight powerful 50/50 medicine.

Yeah BK, it was on the shorter end of plants I have grown but it is on the higher end of the yield I have gotten from other plants. I have only grown with DBHB and I will say that my buds are always consistently pretty damn frosty. I have already had a good friend tell me he is not interested in Blue Dream since he has had it so much, but I have a feeling if I give him a sample of High Brix Blue Dream and don't tell him what it is he will change his tune real quick.

Thanks, weight isn't in yet and I want to get some more people to test it out before I mark it down in the record books.

Today I put a 3/4" layer of foam insulation down in both tents thanks to the advice of Shiggityflip. Hopefully that will bring up soil energy as it seems to fall off after a while. Fingers crossed. If that issue gets fixed it would really bring my veg game up which is really the only big issue I have right now.

The flower tent got a watering today, both Blueberry Headband and Jack Herer. Jack Herer hasn't thrown any new bananas and is toward the end of her life. Have some tester buds that are ready for a smoke session tomorrow and we will go from there. Blueberry Headband just got her first water after Cat Drench and is really stacking the frost.

The bloom tent has an empty spot, but I just transplanted two plants from one gallon pots to 5 gallon soft pots, one about 3 days ago and 1 today, so I want to let them lay down some roots before throwing them in flower although they are about the right height for flip. I did some trimming hoping to stunt them a bit, maybe it will work, maybe not.

Well, no pictures tonight, but a bit of a tale and some progress!

Yesterday I was able to travel with my companion to visit fellow 420 Magazine member Tead. He was kind enough to invite me to his city and roll out the welcome mat. We had a great time talking shop, life, and partaking in some local fare. We talked most of the day and into the night before we had to depart. It was a wonderful event, and hopefully not the last time a couple 420 Magazine members get together to share our love for the plant.

I have suffered in veg for a while. I just couldn't seem to get things in line. I believe that I have narrowed it down to allowing my plants to get way too dry before I watered them again and not transplanting soon enough, the transplanting part I am not 100% sure of, but I am erring on the side of caution these days. So far with watering, I look for the droopy leaves and it seems to be working like a charm. My veg girls are happy, green, and praying like never before!

Beyond that the bloom tent has some empty space in it that I will fill once my largest veg girl gets a bit bigger. I defoliated her tonight but she is only 12 inches tall, I prefer they be a bit taller before the flip. In the bloom tent I have 2 Dusted Bud Genetics girls and a Blueberry Headband girl. They are coming along.

Jack Herer got the chop tonight. She wasn't doing much, probably could have gone longer, but I needed the flower, so down she came.

It was awesome to talk shop for a day. That just never ever happens in my little corner of the world. Special and rare indeed. Thanks for stopping by and consider that welcome mat a permanent feature.

I'll take a moment to toss out a little smoke/bud report on the BD.
Beautiful bud. Incredible snow on it. The fat structure and deep color really show that it was grown well.
The smell is really unusual IMHO. Kind of vaguely 'sweaty' smell with some sort of sweet fruit mixed in. Crazy smell. It's so unusual that it makes me wonder if there are some special flushing needs in a HB grow.
Burns really well. Gave me a touch of coughing here and there... but that hardly broke my heart. I've always enjoyed the quick effect that one gets when coughing up a good hit.
For me, the effect is a nice balance between the 'couch-lock' and 'energetic' highs sending my mind on interesting journeys while keeping my body relaxed and mellow.
I think the best words I can use to sum up my impression of the strain are these.... I'm certain that my next seed order will include BD.

Never happens here either, I simply spout off all the latest to the missus about what's happening and about once or twice a week she has a look at what the girls are doing, so it was definitely a thrill! Glad you had us over and I am sure that there will be more stops in the future for sure.

Thanks for the smoke report, but I think you give me a bit too much credit. The kit allows even the newbies to grow great produce without too much thought. Glad you liked the strain, I don't think we need to worry about a seed order though, I am sure a couple of clones could find their way out there with little trouble. I will toss another Blue Dream bean down in a week or two. Get some clones out there in time to take advantage of the good weather so you can grow her out yourself before the heat returns.

Indeed, if I remember right I fed a day or two before chop and this bud was maybe a week from the chop, so perhaps a bit more cure would do the trick.

Anyone ever compared an HB with a flush period at the end of a grow vs. the unflushed twin?

I've always been one to kick every tire possible and color outside any lines available.

Sounds like I need to plant another Blue Dream seed, take two clones, then grow them out side by side, flushing one and not the other, then let you do the blind taste test.

Things are going good. I have a Blueberry Headband in the flower tent. She is really tall and I think the bud structure suffered for it. She is foxtailing with buds that are spread out. Resin is super thick and smell is amazing, so she should be a great smoke like her mother.

Veg has a Cookies Kush going as well as a GDP about ready for the flip. I will get some pictures sometime, but all is well.

Whassup Brixnewb?
I run HSO beans and loved them.
However this run, I ran some dynasty beans and they walked all over my hso beans in terms of weight and growth vigor.
You rocking it bro!

Stage man, glad you came through! I have been watching you since before you tried the Brix, so glad to have you man. I actually chose most of my strains based on what others were growing on the 420mag and just tried a bit of this and that. So far the HSO and Dusted Bud Genetics have proven to be head and shoulders above the rest. I still have quite a bundle of seeds to go through and try, but HSO and Dusted Bud will be staples of the perpetual from now on.

Trust me, ever since I saw ShiggityFlip growing the Pineapple Fields and loving it, I had them on the list. Problem is I probably have 100 if not 200 beans to go through before I can justify buying any more. What a problem to have.
