BrixNewb's First Grow & Beyond

Ok guys, back with another update. The clones haven't really done anything except bend over.

We have the usual suspect, Grapefruit Diesel and Pineapple Chunk. Yesterday I went through and did some thinning of the plants, just took a couple lower fans. I am making sure to let them get nice and dry before watering. Pineapple Chunk is still a squat little bush and Grapefruit Diesel is a lanky girl.

On 2/13 I decided to go ahead and plant the next two seeds so I can get the perpetual rolling. I planted Money Maker and Budzilla, both of which were freebies. Yesterday Budzilla made an appearance and is off to a good start. On the other side of the coin there has been no movement from Money Maker. I am going to give it a couple more days and if I don't see anything I will plant another bean.

Just fantastic looking girls BN, and great pictures. I really need to get myself a better camera.

Thanks bud, I am trying. As for the camera, definitely don't run out and buy a new one, this is a Canon Powershot that is at least 6 years old and fits in your pocket. Canon cameras have never let me down.

You ain't trying buddy, you're doing. :)

My daughter is going to bring me her old one that is likely a decade newer than the one I'm using. Unfortunately she keeps forgetting it every time she comes over. Was supposed to have it for all the pics in my second journal.

Damned kids these days. :)

I am sure we can all relate to being a bit forgetful. That camera will come through soon enough.

Well, it's time for another update with pictures. Today marks a week since I planted Money Maker and Budzilla. Money Maker is still nowhere in sight, so I went ahead and planted a Chocolope Kush seed. I am going to give Money Maker a bit more time before digging her up.

The big girls, Pineapple Chunk and Grapefruit Diesel both got a GE+Tea drench today. They were both very dry.

looking good Brix :thumb:

Thanks Sonic.

I decided to do a little investigation on Money Maker. I slowly rubbed away the soil on top of the seed until I reached the seed. It had cracked open, but no sign of a tap root. I pried the pod completely open and the inside was filled with gelatinous white goo. So R.I.P. Money Maker freebie from Bonza.

Thats a shame mate :rip: money maker

Had the same thing with one of my dark devil beans, disapointing but can't win them all

Wouldn't be so bad if they weren't 10-15 bones each.

Yeah, it's not cheap. I have actually made most of my purchases from Bonza and I wait until they are having some kind of crazy sale with good freebies. I have been really happy with the deals I have gotten and this was the first bean that turned out to be a dud and it was a freebie. So far my free seeds have been the best ones that I have grown.

Attack of the (Hopefully) Clones!

Ok guys, I have tried my hand at cloning. A few days ago I clipped two Grapefruit Diesel branches, took a razor to the end and got down to the good green stuff, then I put them into a cup with Roots! and RO water. I then put that cup into a dark cabinet. Today I am happy to report that one of them has knubby parts, so I think it's attempting to grow roots.

Then today I decided to try another method, using Rapid Rooters. I cut up some Solo cups, put a tiny amount of 1/4 Transplant water in them. Next I clipped my clones, took a razor to the bottom, clipped off the excess foliage, Clonex, and stuck them in Rapid Rooters. These guys got put into the veg tent. I may use a large Mason jar as a humidity dome. Haven't decided yet.

I do the same with the rapid rooters except I do not bother cutting the cups and I do not use a dome. The plugs keep enough moisture on the stems that it doesn't seem to be necessary.

I'm finding it is less about how you clone and more about what you clone. Certain plants and certain parts of a plant work much better than others.

Destress + water.
Destress is included in Doc's High Brix kit.

Yep. Kit foliars are mixed 1ml/oz so, I usually mix my "clone de-stress" at just under half-strength. I put 10-12 drops of de-stress from a pipet into a 1oz atomizer and refrigerate after use for a week or so. If it takes them longer than a week to push roots, I'll toss the week old stuff and mix a little more fresh. You can spray it right out of the fridge too, but I usually prefer to let mine warm slightly before I hit them with 36f liquid.
