BrixNewb's First Grow & Beyond

WTF? Really? Bummer...

hmmm..his journal is locked. he may be away and asked to locked? anyone know?

Indeed, Atrain has moved on to other pastures I have been informed and references to him have been removed it seems. It's a shame to lose such valuable resources. I guess it's the same everywhere you go, you won't always agree with management.

Dark Devil met her demise today. I checked trichomes and she was about 10% amber, so I took her down. She was very small, I expect less than an ounce out of here. No pictures as of now, but once she is dry I will get some pics of the harvest as well as a final weight.

I am feeling daring and think I will plant another auto in a 5 gallon pot, this time Wipeout Express from Heavyweight Seeds. I will use it to try and hone my watering skills and see what I can get. I will also be planting Budzilla and Chocolope Kush, both photo strains. The planting happens in 4 days once my soil is finished cooking. Exciting times.

Grapefruit Diesel just has a perfect structure in my eyes. Some may not be a fan of the node spacing, but I think she is a gorgeous plant with great structure. I have noticed some yellowing on the leaves and believe she may be ready for another Rescue Drench, so I think I am going to give that a go here within the next few days.

Pineapple Chunk is a funky one. She is very short, node spacing is super tight. She also grew out at about a 45 degree angle, so her trunk is a bit curved. She is a short little bush unlike her friend Grapefruit D.

Thanks for the info on "he who must not be named". :shhh:

Man...did you hear the wheels on my forum mobile screeching to a stop? I read this and there was this huge red flag that popped up blocking my view. So, you think a "2nd rescue drench" on such a small plant is necessary?

I mean, I can see where it may be a good idea under certain conditions (yours may very well be one of them too), but a second rescue of such a young plant would lead me to believe something isn't right.

Looking pretty lush there Brix :thumb:
I have a couple more purple kush that I tried to top but with tight nodes and my shaky hands I think it is more like a FIM. I'm going to leave the third PK alone and compare.

I hope that DD is good smoke at least, mine is still a midget at 43 days if that makes you feel any better....

Thanks man. I am really interested in Purple Kush, so I will be keeping an eye on your grow, although I may not be posting in your thread often. Seems like you have the purple mixed with Kush which everybody loves, what's not to like? I will let you know how the DD smokes once it's dried out. Keep 'em, growing brother!

Thanks PITA, just chugging along man. Glad to have you.

You make a very valid point, maybe I will hold off for now. The reason I feel it may be needed is because I didn't amend or cook the soil they are in after my last harvest. The newer growth looks alright at this time, but some of the older growth that is hard to see is faded yellowish in the middle. But I will hold off and see if the new growth fades or not. Thanks for that Govt.

Ya, ditto. :hmmmm:

Are those one gallon nursery pots? Those only hold 3/4 gallon. They're more ready for a bigger pot than they are for more stuff dumped into that little bit of soil.

Yes sir, one gallon pots. I try and get them rootbound before upcanning. I go from one gallons to seven gallon softies. I have heard your words that they don't need another drench, I will put down the drencher pronto. :thanks:

And Graytail strikes again!

Yesterday I opened the tent and noticed that Grapefruit Diesel was a droopy girl. She was a bit dry, so I figured that she just wanted water. I watered her, and 8 hours later, she was perky again. Well this morning I wake up and both Grapefruit Diesel and Pineapple Chunk are droopy. That got my wheels spinning. They aren't but around 7 inches tall each (in one gallon pots), could they already be rootbound? I pulled both plants out of their pots and the roots were swirled around the bottom a good bit, but not so much the sides. I did try to bottom water this run, so perhaps top watering for a while is in order.

You guys think they could grow a bit more in the current containers or should I upcan them? If I upcan I am thinking that 2.5 or 3 gallon pots are in order to have room for other sprouts in the tent.

Hey BN.......I can tell ya from experience that only going to a 2 gallon probably won't be enough......the would fill that extra soil up in no time......wait for some more in put but 3's or bigger imo.........but other than that......that's what we ar going for....not much foliage but tons of roots.....:high-five:

Edit: example.....I had a Jack herer that I moved from a 3G air pot into 7g and bloomed(dumb idea).....she was root bound in a couple weeks.......

Thanks Nate. I started cooking my soil on the 15th of last month and was waiting for it to be ready, but I went ahead and transplanted. I have some 5 gallon soft pots, went ahead and put them in there, that will still allow me room for a couple one gallon pots in the small tent.

Nate's right. You won't regret it. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Wow, they're real shorties, too - woulda fooled me.

You should be alright with the soil as long as it had three weeks cooking. I've done it myself.

Oh, and yeah, too much bottom water. :cheesygrinsmiley:

They are real shorties. I was surprised that they were droopy from being rootbound, because they aren't very tall at all. If memory serves me right last round they were twice this tall before they were rootbound, but I also wasn't doing as much bottom watering. In the future I am going to only bottom water on drenches.

Would you suggest maybe poking holes in the bottom of those pots to help with water sitting on the bottom? I always tip them to drain off the excess and they still ended up with all the roots on the bottom.

Happy Valentine's Day 420 Magazine!

Brix, you can try a wick...a rope buried from 1/2 way down the side of the pot and exit the bottom...will help drain the PWT(perched water table)

Its easier to install when filling the pot with soil.

That's definitely an interesting one, but I think I am going to try not bottom watering and see where that gets me.

I got Pineapple Chunk and Grapefruit Diesel upcanned into 5 gallon soft pots for now. I may flower them out in those containers and see if it impacts my yield versus my first grow. I can fit two 5 gallon soft pots and four 1 gallon soft pots in the veg tent, no more. It looks as though I have some funk on the leaves, but as of right now I am chalking it up to dirt from the transplant getting on the leaves.

Hey BN, I have found that just a pint of water down the top slowly, saturates a one gallon pot perfect, with little to no run off.....if I don't dunk and soak my 1 gallon veg plants that's what I do.....to add to it.....I spray the top layer of soil to get it moist then do the watering, this helps the water go down through pot evenly........:high-five:

I was using red Solo cups about half to 2/3s full. I will definitely be spraying before watering, really appreciate the tips.

Them girls are looking pretty healthy :thumb:

Thanks mb, I always say the camera makes them look better than they are, but they are indeed doing alright.
