Brightlight's Strain Fest: Organics & LED

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Awesome update brightlight! That Tahoe looks like it wants to reach out and slap somebody lol. Beautiful girls. Sorry about the ph issues but it looks like you've got them under control.

Now sensi star is on my list lol. I know I have a problem but I can live with this kind of problem lol. I just got my beans from Bonza so that's 3 successful purchases from them. Good place for single seeds.

Cherry OG sounds amazing too but your sensi star sounds like it is a personal favorite. That's good enough for me.

I love you came out of the closet on the fresh weed. I smoke as much as I can of fresh weed starting around week 6. I prefer it to cured weed 6 out of 7 times. I've found the odd specimen that actually improves with a cure, but for me there is just something about fresh buds.

Great update my friend:thumb:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

I hope Tahoe slaps me around. Being a heavier high, Tahoe isn't my favorite OG, but grew it often outdoors. Others seem to love it. I do respect its raw power. Of the ones I've grown Tahoe is one of the prettiest OG's...very sativa-ish in its narrow leave, tall stature & long branching laterals, some plants have lighter, bright green leaves.

I know you like some good indica so Sensi Star is surely worth a try. It's easily top 5 for me ever since 1st smoke it. I was looking at smaller seed breeder lines & saw one called Luther Dogman by Motarebel. Chem 4 & early Sensi Star male....wow got light headed thinking about it...2 of my top favorites. Cherry was best of grow if SS not included.

After seeing you & Carestaker talk about Bonza, I went to look too. Will keep it in mind for singles...so thanks.

Good to hear you love the fresh trichomes too....I seem to get a consensus that most 420 growers like it cured first. For me cure can add complexity, balance, flavor but for sheer raw power, I've always found that more in fresh uncured herb.

Good chatting w/ ya brother.:passitleft:

Hi Brother brightlight!

I wouldn't say she's the most potent, but she is a great compromise between potency and ease of use lol. The white is up there potency wise but I'm not reaching for her. I'm constantly reaching for the S n C. With that said I've just had my first sample of 7 week LCOG and that is easily my favorite of the grow. For me potency has to have soft edges for my affection lol.

I don't know how to explain it but I like weed that doesn't let you know its there, it just makes what ever your doing better lol. I would put this LCOG in that category. Such a wonderful taste and high. So smooth in every way. I actually had a big blast of marshmallow flavor of the vape hit. I'm as stoned as any of the weeds in this grow but I like this one the best.

Since I wouldn't have even grown this if it wasn't for you, I owe you a gigantic THANK YOU! :thanks:

S n C Is definitely a keeper and a great day time med that won't slow you down. 2nd favorite of the grow. I usually need a month to know if something is a keeper, but I hit the jackpot here. 2 keepers in one grow.

The white S1's are a different story. They are VERY potent but not fun for me. If I was still in high school I would love it lol. But now I'm unable to move after smoking her. A little parinoid and makes time go by so slow. I def prefer weeds that make time fly by. LCOG does that for me. The White s1 #2 (the frost monster) has an unbelievable grape smell and taste, which is not typical for this strain. I'm hoping the edges smooth out. #1 is just like a really good hash plant. Kind of bummed but now I see why everyone crosses their strains with her. She is extremely frosty and easy to grow with pure potency.

Great chatting with you too my friend! :circle-of-love::love::circle-of-love:

wow you've done it again brother :Namaste:

what an amazing garden & harvest.

looking forward to the rest of em :)

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

So that's another point for HSO I guess, I grew their Trainwreck and Green Crack, both were exceptional smoke. This Lost Coast sure sounds like a winner too :passitleft:

Great description of top level high doc....the kind that gets one completely engrossed in thoughts/activities & so smooth & comfortable you forget you're high. You're darn good at ID & labeling tastes/flavors...easier said than done. Thanks to your "mistake ordering" I've put the HSO LC OG on list....a Lost Coast comparison like current Green Crack is in the future.

wow you've done it again brother :Namaste:

Have a couple of MK Ultras in there too 420, not as photogenic as rest but some pics soon. Smallish but plentiful buds as often reviewed. Far less trichomes than tent mates but I've had a few like that end up as a good surprise.

So that's another point for HSO I guess, I grew their Trainwreck and Green Crack, both were exceptional smoke. This Lost Coast sure sounds like a winner too :passitleft:

So far so good for me on HSO....Green Crack here looking decent. Really liked their Dedoverde Haze. Can't complain about the EmDog just a bit heavy for me but others seem to love that type. Tried a Headband outside that turned into a great looking male...nice teaser but I have 1 more seed. The ongoing HSO promo program has given me a host of real interesting choices so I'll be goofing around w/ HSO for awhile. Seems most everyone liking on their strains.

Hi Conradino,

This LCOG is definitely a winner. It reminds me of other OGs but the flavor and smoothness of the smoke is unique IMHO. The only downside I can see is the yield may not be stellar. That's yet to be determined though. This thing has dense buds all the way down. Every bud even shaded buds are totally solid and viable. They are not big buds though so well see. I'll report back after its harvested with a final yield. :Namaste:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Hi Brightlight,

I got into coffee roasting and tasting about a decade ago and it's really helped me develope my ability to pick up on flavors. I'm definitely not as good as others. I tend to only pick up on 1 or 2 notes. I've seen other reports where folks can detect 5 or more flavors, I'd call BS, but I believe it's actually possible as I've seen it in the coffee community as well :)

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Well I live in a country where "taste culture" is very important, and it's carried on by wine sommellier associations, cause wine is one of these products that develops many different flavors some detectable after professional training. Cannabis is not really different, there are scents here that you'll find in wine, coffee or whisky owed to terpenes produced in flowering. This is gonna be exciting to see if cannabis scene follows this route.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

It's About That Time....
Adding a 2nd tent has led to the 2nd harvest in 2 months. Fresh trichomes & more strains are always a plus...less so on electricity costs running 2 tents & me getting a little worn out. All 6 plants will be cut right around listed breeder flowering days. In fact some buds appeared quite advanced & mature even before reaching listed maturity dates.

All plants grown again in organically amended coco, which has consistently produced top tier buds. But as mentioned my organic mixes have recently caused some pH related micronutrient deficiencies. My mixes generally run right around 6.5 or slightly higher where coco prefers the low 6's. At its worst I had to use some AN pH Down, which is hardly organic. I had good luck getting back to using fish fertilizer indoors despite the pungent stinky smell. The amino acids in fish fertilizer have an excellent chelating effect that quickly improves any micronutrient shortages. The amino acids also accelerate both veg & flower growth. I seem to have had more problems in this area with Santuary coco than I did with Royal Gold or Botanicare. After 5 indoor runs I'm less attached to full bore organic style growing & will continue "mostly organic" indoors in the future. Less soil mixing mainly. I'll find out how that shakes out as I go. I've never grown organically based on life style or philosophy....I just like mixing soil outdoors & the hard to match natural flavors & terpenes organic herb consistently produces. No big deal as I change a lot of things every single grow organic or not. The tinkering & experimentation is both fun & educational.

Enough talk & time for a few pictures.....

Tent at 56 days flowering
Note left & right rear plants. Left rear is an MK Ultra that has disappeared due to bending from bud weight. Right rear is Sour Kosher leaning over but visible. Green Cracks are front left & center. Tahoe is front right.

DNA Sour Kosher
A real beauty queen throughout flowering & photogenic as well. Harvested today at 62 days. Bud appearance is much more advanced than I like to let them go, but I waited until today for trichomes, which were still only ~65 cloudy although many clears were part opaque. Breeder days are listed at 63-67 days. Stickiest in tent & not even close. Not overpowering fragrance but clearly diesel type fuel & gas smell. Note the red & purple fans typical of most Sour Diesels. While I often grow SD's & SD crosses, this is only the 2nd Kosher strain for me, the 1st was Kosher Tangie, so I'm not knowledgeable nor conversant on it. Sour OG/Headband is a top favorite so am looking at this SK as being a similar cross & eager to try it. The sideways bud is how pic was taken...leaning over from weight.

Ya mon....looking good!! Bright....told ya about the MK, ...didn't i, eh ....didn't i.;) A word of caution with her...early is nicer than later! Very , very strong , i found , after growing it three separate times in the "kit".I wonder what pheno you have there, there's one that tastes outstanding! Cheers .:high-five:

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Wow brother light!

Those all look like they are A++. I'm drooling over here my friend. My favorite by looks is the sour kush. Followed very closely by the Tahoe. I'm waiting patiently for your smoke reports, they are some of the best here at:420:

Your mk-ultra has me intrigued. Very intrigued. I can't see it, but the fact that it has grown so much it has actually bent over! You have some wonderful skills my friend! :circle-of-love::circle-of-love:

Delicious buds. HSO and CC versions of GC look similar in the end, don't they?

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

I keep going back to look at that Tahoe. Holy Moly brightlight, that is one beautiful lady. Did her tip get light bleached or is that just a crusty trichome patch? Really looking forward to your smokem report my brother! :high-five:

I saw that too. Glare from the flash, or a hash tip ... ?

Mighty pretty produce!

Gorgeous update BL. :circle-of-love: That DNA SK is stunning. Congrats on your chop too! :Namaste:

I can't wait to see what the smoke test finds, but from a merely visual perspective, I would likely choose the CaliCon version in the Crack battle. The smoke tells all though, so I'm interesting in hearing your thoughts, when and if you are ready to share them. I'm guessing that HSO will make a good showing. I share your thoughts on nutrients, and I'll leave it at that. There's many ways to grow beautiful weed, and I very much appreciate your approach. It's really outstanding.

Ok...MK Ultra. I grew 2...one freebie seed from ~4 yrs. ago & one recently purchased. Both looked like OG type plants as duggan mentioned w/ one being quite tall. Smallish buds w/ low level visible trichomes that didn't even feel very sticky at harvest & hardly any fragrance. I had a pH related micronutrient problem during grow that I was able to fix, but the MKU's may have suffered more than the other strains. You'll see what I mean in pic w/ its mucked up leaves. Neither plant was photogenic, which is why I haven't taken nor posted pics. Finally took a picture, which is below. Good news is that it surprised me & ended up being some very good herb after trying a small lower bud. Small little bud that was air dried in grow room had surprisingly pungent dank smell. Shocked me after virtually no smell during grow. MKU's reputation as powerful, hypnotic high came through....a very enjoyable indica. Will add more details after it dries & I try it more.

I had expected the 2 GC's to look more alike than they did. I haven't tried the HSO yet, but did vape some real little CC buds that broke off during harvest. What I vaped were more like scraps so I was very pleased when it blasted me. The initial impact is one of those blunt force pounders....ripping high for 1st half hr after it hit. That "feature" is always a surprise but welcome & lots of fun. A sativa high for sure. I'll provide more comparison & details later. Here are 2 GC harvest pics....HSO followed by CC.

The "white top" could be a young leaf that gets completely covered in trichomes. I did see a flat leaf like portion in one pic. Yet when I look at it under magnification, I see white cylindrical tendril like growth covered w/ trichomes. The earlier Critical Hog has some tops that were all lighter...all of it, no green at all. I asked light mfr. botanists if it was bleaching but was told "no, it's inability for some plants to produce chlorophyll fast enough in flower". That looked totally different that what we talking about here. So IDK but at least it seems to be a good thing. Here are a couple of pics that I cropped to enlarge showing a little more detail....HSO GC followed by Tahoe.

Only the Tahoe is left....buds looked "well done" ~60 days, but opted to go longer as I've found Cali Connection OG's do that but are excellent when left to ~70 days. Others hanging in garage stinking up everything w/ the fragrance we all love.

re: Brightlight's Strain Fest - Organics & LED

Holy Moly brightlight!

Those pics show it much better. I see now those are trichome crust patches. How fun. I've never seen that type of concentrated trichomes before.

Call me a sucker for og but dang that Tahoe looks phenominal. I've heard it's really d!ck in the dirt type meds.

Thanks so much for the explanation on the mk-ultra. Sounds like a happy surprise.

I've actually collected so many beans that I'm at a crossroads what to pop next. Thought it was a no brainer for the WiFi, but you got me thinking the Tahoe might be fun last big tent run. How do you make up your mind? Coin flip lol?

I guess there is a down side to bean collecting lol.

Congrats on the harvest brother! :volcano-smiley::love:
