Brandon420's Living Soil 2022 Second Run

Here are some updated pictures of things going on at the Airstrip. Haven't been able to update, been overwhelmed with work. Just got through my state inspection and some planting, things are moving along nicely.

Congratulations on the inspection - big day. Also, thanks for making the effort here to share and help us out. :thumb:

Welcome, @Mycelium Farmer ! :welcome:

Nice to see another Jadam practitioner.

1Would love your take on our open source experiment BUD rot and Mold vs Microbes . If you don't already spray with microbes to prevent mold and bud rot maybe you could try it on a few plants and add to our collective knowledge.

Great looking grow you have! :thumb: I'll be tagging along.

I've never seen anyone complete the cycle by feeding buds buds. That is cool. I wish I were outside working in a garden.
Gotta be nice work if you can get it. I think I might want to be buried there.lol

Just caught up here. Impressive. Your setup is much like my grower Yoda’s in Oregon. His stuff all comes from Dark Heart Nurseries(his buddy is owner). He also uses soil generations old and amends as required. But what really blows my mind about everything I just read is that you are doing this with THREE PEOPLE?!?!?!?! That either makes you my hero or a crazy person, both work for me. I’m a wheelchair grower and I thought I worked hard. Very impressive. Thanks for sharing this.

@Mycelium Farmer , I take it from your screen name that you are doing something to actively cultivate mycelium. If so, can you share what you are doing and also why and how you use it?

I make my own leaf mold for use as a base ingredient for my grow mix and I have what I think is a very thick layer of mycelium covering the top of one of my leaf mold barrels. It's probably 3-4 inches thick, nicely white and not delicate at all as I can grab a handful and pull/bend it back against the rest. I'm not even sure it is mycelium but if it is and can be a useful additive somehow in the garden I'd like to use it.

Leaf mold is among the greatest additives in the garden ! that sounds like a healthy happy batch, I'm jealous.
I use leaf mold to start all my Jadam fertilizer barrels, in compost teas, in soil mixes, and its great for making your own soil cubes for clones/seed starts.
I guess you could say currently... other than some piles of leafs and wood chips in a few spots.. not doing too much active mycelium cultivation... just using a lot of what nature has to offer.
But there are many great ways to use nature to actively cultivate beneficial cultures.
I'm looking forward to cultivating a King Stropharia the start of next year. Its also referred to as the garden giant.. supposedly delicious giant mushrooms that form a symbiotic relationship with cannabis to help them feed and drink.. potential to increase yield by huge numbers.
I would suggest... if leaf mold is calling your name.. make a few 5 gallon buckets of Jadam fertilizers out of what is available for you to forage. Blackberry vines are great this time of year... makes a great fertilizer for budding plants.

Hell yeah, looking good bro!

I just added links to all three of your journals to your signature :high-five:

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us, I'll let some of the regulars know you are a personal friend of mine and ask them to subscribe and introduce you to everyone.
:ganjamon::green_heart::thanks:
I seen this post a little late.. Miss you man! smoke out sesh is coming soon..

I got a lot of crazy in me.. but it's not always 3 people. Currently its me and one other person full time, 2 people part time, and the land owner and consultants play their part in keeping the business going. But hands on deck taking care of plants on average this year... 3-4 people. I find years I ran crews of 8-14 people at a time there was too much chit chat and distraction, not enough motivation to work hard and finish early. Having a small crew gives us more motivation to get it done and personal responsibility to the plant... it's hard to hold someone accountable for a problem when there's 10 people involved.
Trim crews are separate set of people... I get extra help sometimes to harvest. Thanks for joining in! glad to have you on this adventure.

Sounds interesting! I'll check it out. I have sprayed compost teas foliar style before... I would love to jump in on this experiment. Thanks for tagging!

Dude that has to sting.
Just about every other commodity prices are skyrocketing while cannabis is going way down. Do you foresee a change in that trend?
That's a loaded question..
Breaking down the interstate commerce laws would be a temporary blessing for all small farmers in California... but ultimately after a few years of that I believe you either will need to be a mega farm or have a truly special product to survive... like any wine out of Napa valley will sell 5x value of a wine out of Southern California.
Would be cool to see the same thing happen with Organic Humboldt weed

Yea at the top of the same mountain.. different grow op and property.. few miles of mountain road to get there but maybe only 1 mile up mountain as the crow flies. Got the spot on the bottom with the creek, and the spot at the top with the view.

Really they both have the view though.

wow where do I begin I cant imagine running a operation like this My 4x4 grow tent Keeps me busy, what I would give to be 25 yrs younger and have weed legalized. I never thought I would enjoy growing it as much as I do smoking it. I appreciate you sharing this with us. it at least gives me something to dream about

I have been smoking weed since I was 15 I been growing got 6 months so for most of my life cannabis farms was something I never conceived I have so many question But Ill stick to 2 for now. and I ask something you already answered gimme a break I been smoking pot for almost 50 yrs. lol

How many people does it take to run a operation this big ?

I am guess regardless whether it is my tent up to your the size of your farm Nutrients are important how and what do you give your crops ? is it fed and watered thru a irrigation system ?

awesome pics and info thanks for sharing it

Hi Savvage, thanks for joining.

It only takes a handful of people... but can easily run 15 people when the prices were good.
I make a lot of Jadam fertilizers, and use a mix of fish, kelp, neem, rock dust as my main dry amend base... gypsum too.. oyster shell the first year or two of the soil. This 2nd harvest on half the beds I'm trying some pre-mix made by roots organic, called terp n tea... a dry amend for bloom.
I'm really happy about it, they have a great mix.
This year has been all hand water, but I have the irrigation for sprayers and automation... I just like being more in tune with the plants needs rather than relying on total automation.

And sorry may I ask the relationship the other plantz in your garden have with the cannabis? Are they pest/predator decoyz ? Or do they live symbiotically like one plant depletez a certain nutrient from the soil while the other replaces it?

So just very curious how you manage such awesome plantz at such a huge scale.... I know an army of handz helpz 😆
The new trend for the beds last year is I got a lot of purslane popping up.. I think from the truck loads of manure I picked up north.
I don't mind it, seems to help the soil retain water. It is partly in the succulent family. It's also a great add in for salads... I've been considering taking totes full down to the farmers market.
I've been trying to run clover crops but have issues with germination. Other beds I top with alfalfa and wood chips made of the farm.

Ok, thanks. I was more wondering, if mycelium is indeed what I have, can I harvest it in some way and maybe topdress my pots or add a chunk to my grow mix, or something else?

Or maybe it doesn't work that way, don't know.

updates on the current plants... and planting a few new gush mintz to fill the whole first greenhouse with just gushmintz. Wasn't happy with the outcome or the genetics in the bed, so cut them down to replace with the gush mintz.
If you click on the pictures, they usually have descriptions.
