Brand Spankin New ViparSpectra KS5000 Grows Herbies Seeds Collection In LOS

Interesting mate thanks a lot, I did do a quick Google for "The Rev's soil" before I asked but clearly I was sleeping on the results.

Maybe a book to buy for xmas, I've fallen out of favour with reading books as a hobby this may be just the ticket :)
There it is. He keeps saying there's a new book coming but nothing yet.

Light spread and heat up and away! This light is 40 inches square and 1.6 inches tall. That's thin! A good attribute come flower time in sativaville when one gets out of hand tall.

The KS5000 may not fit in that tent. Look to a KS3000 for that space. 300 watts flowers well in a 3 x 3.

I like my bud with back!
That ain't no hack!
Give me a lil Mimosa
She'll taste sweet like she sposta!
Grown all east coasta!

Hey Weffalo, that's The Rev's amending recipe. He wrote True Living Organics a book about growing in LOS. I've been using it for a few years and am having a good time with it.
Hey @Big Sparks - hello - I’m about to start a sponsored Vpairsprctra grow in a 3x3 using the KS3000 he refers to, for what it’s worth.

Highya SO,

Love the Blueberry seedling! She's kicking into high gear! Go Chickie!

Seems that's all we can do is remember the good old days!! I'm very content now, just remember what I/We used to do! Well, We still can do what we need to, so there! Happy Smokin'
I've only grown auto blueberries before. This one will be fun!

I recommend grabbing the 2nd edition (the yellow one you’ve got pictured is the 2nd edition). The 1st edition is easily accessible online (wink wink), the 2nd one does not have an Ebook or a digital version. The 1st version will get you familiar with a lot of the methods and ideas behind it but he’s still pushing HPS lights and talking about LEDs just getting good. The 2nd edition is much more detailed with a lot of additional recipes and it’s more modern. I.e. TLO 1st edition was published in 2012 and TLO 2nd edition was published 2016.

There it is. He keeps saying there's a new book coming but nothing yet.

He’s been saying it for so long now that I gave up waiting for it and wound up asking my old lady to grab the second for Xmas. I feel like there’s a bunch of stuff I’m missing based on some of the suggestions you and Gee had that weren’t in mine. Plus I think Rev deserves the 25 bucks, he changed my outlook and style so Im not gonna be my normal “eff money” self 😂

There is more that isn't in the book. I like to read his articles in Skunk Mag on line. There's a bunch of it archived there! Well I find more that I didn't see in the book anyway.

That’s right! I always forget about the website.. I highly recommend the website as well.. you can get a ton of free info there, and most of it is much more current. It is a bit difficult to navigate on mobile, there’s not really an easy way to see all his stuff in one spot, but the desktop version may be better. Regardless, it’s another really good source for TLO/LOS

TODAY'S A NICE DAY TO TALK ABOUT SPREADING THE LIGHT ABOUT UPDATE

Good afternoon folks, what a day to grow! As i watch my little ones come to life I see they won't stay small long and I'm going to need good strong light for them soon. Here's the light footprint chart @ViparSpectra has for us.

Love those numbers! I'm just realizing PAR is PPFD
Here's a study that looks close to what I've been working with:

PPFD Measurements and What's Best for Your Plants

As we've mentioned, PAR is the type of energy plants use from light and PPF is a way to measure light efficiency or intensity. PPFD, or Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density, is a measurement of light density in a given area.

So let’s talk benchmarks and the best PPFD/PAR range for your plants! Between 200-400 PPFD: This is great for seedlings, clones, and mother plants. Between 400-600 PPFD: This is great for early to late stage vegging cycles. Between 600-900 PPFD: This is great for the flowering, fruiting, or budding stage of plants. Between 200 PPFD and 400 PPFD, plants growth rate potential crawls around 30 - 55% which is recommended for mother plants or young, weaker plants that need a light that's not super intense. If you were to double your PPFD from 400 to 800, the growth rate potential reaches about 85%. You would think that doubling the intensity would push the growth rate potential pass 100% but the truth is, there’s a loss of power in return the more intense your lights become. Once you surpass 1000 PPFD and go into Double Ended Grow Light territory, your plants stop becoming light-limited and start becoming carb limited. At that level of PPFD, increasing CO2 levels is highly recommended to take advantage of that intense light. But for most growers, CO2 is not necessary. So a common balance between performance and efficiency is in the 600-900 PPFD range. Keep in mind that these benchmarks we mentioned represents the potential growth rate on the lighting side and doesn’t factor in other environmental conditions or genetics for optimal growth.

Within those parameters I get a healthy plant. Valerie, is the KS5000 chart above taken at 12 inches height?

Highya SO,

I always wondered what the numbers were for lights and growing plants! Thank you, very informative! I hope that light does what you want!! Happy Smokin'

Since I got a budget PAR meter and information like this I've been happier with how they grow! I'm positive the light is going to tickle my fancy!

The height is 16", brightness is 100%.😀

Have to look that up myself. Interesting 🤔

What I have mine set as. But after first two weeks I raised it up 2-3 inches for stretch. . first week plant was reaching for light. In saying that. What my plant was showing 18 inches 100% was good..

There is or was a guy took like 8 lights I seen did a study on best lights. And from what all research. Cause that's what I do. It ranks like top 5 best lights made. Ones above it I never ever heard of. . See if I can find that .

Thanks! Very strong for 16 inches. That brightness and the height gives us the great distribution!

That's ok, I'm not really interested in comparing lights here please. I just want to make this one shine the best I can for folks to see.

Since I got a budget PAR meter and information like this I've been happier with how they grow! I'm positive the light is going to tickle my fancy!

For those interested in getting an average PPFD/DLI of their space there’s a couple options. There’s specific PAR and lux meters you can purchase online for an average of 15-30$.. These will give you a good idea of what light intensity you’re looking at. There’s a middle ground meter that’s priced at 150$ but I have no experience with those. The next step up from that is an Apogee meter. These meters will give you laser precision at a cost. Last time I checked the apogee meter was going for 499$.

Once upon a time phone apps were looked down on for these purposes. The phones weren’t powerful enough and the apps were cobbled together haphazardly. However an app called Photone has really stepped up its game.

If you have at least an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 equivalent it will be powerful enough and you can get the Photone app for free. If I remember correctly it comes standard with a Lux, PAR (ppfd), and DLI reading. You can unlock specific lights in the app for a couple bucks depending on your light type. I unlocked the full spectrum LED light meter for 5 bucks. The free version will let you take readings and while they were pretty similar to the readings I got when I paid for the LED add on there was a slight difference.

I used the app on my phone, and my wife’s iPhone 13 pro blah blah blah and both registered my light intensity at the same reading my handheld lux meter did. I have a buddy with an apogee meter and had him come check my light to see how accurate my app was. My app was 10 ppfd off what his meter said which is not bad at all. I’m not a light max grower. If I can get my light to an average intensity I am happy with that. However if you’re looking to really dial in your grow to peak efficiency you’re going to want that extra 10 ppfd meter ability.

If you’re just looking for a quick average of your grow though and have a somewhat recent phone, Photone is a great app for that.

Well aren't you just in time! My budget meter has an intermittent connection at the light collector and I need to do something besides hold the wire in a special way to make it work. I have the Photone app and haven't opened it up and bought in yet.

I like knowing where I am in strength for the stages of growth and to save money in a normal grow. :) This is a special grow and I'm not so cost conscious as I want to show off the light right now, but that's coming. Anyway, I see folks using it and with your side by side look with the apogee, I'll be giving it more time soon. Thanks!

YES WE HAVE PLANTS GROWING UPDATE!

Hello and merry holiday week to you all! Looking in on them today I found one appearing to be growing as healthy as any of them but off to the side. My watering and walking away not checking left a hole next to the plant:eek: that I refilled with soil and buckered up with a small container. They look to have taken a good rooting!
Did I show you the soil I mixed the other day? I forget. Well I got down about a foot and took it's temperature and got +10 degrees from ambient! I'll take that as good cooking!
Update on the stress test. All systems go! My heart is in good order. Just some groovy beats left over from covid no doubt. My opinion. The heart specialist said he hasn't put covid and irregular heartbeats together. I told him it's about time he started wondering about that. Not that it matters, but folks should be informed if it is a fact.
