Bomb Seeds Detonation Time! - 420 Magazine Sponsor Grow & Review - Indoor UDWC LED

Re: Bomb Seeds Detonation Time! - 420 Magazine Sponsor Grow & Review - Indoor UDWC L

Lets see how they respond

They responded by going BOOM & growing about an inch in the dark. Obviously, they were nute locked with calcium deprivation. Ppm has risen with the Cal-mag addition to 446 (+21) along with a slight pH increase. Now hopefully the ppm will start a downward trend finally.

Pennywise is right IMO. As soon as you filter with any RO you’re getting rid of almost all good stuff(and bad). I would recommend using it normally at least through veg. In flower you can reduce some, but I still use it. Depends on many variables and what nutes you’re using, but it’s needed, as you can see. Another reason why I love DWC. The new growth on your plants are all looking vibrant. The calmag use will show quickly. Good catch for sure.

I’ve been looking through this site. There’s some decent information in here:

Symptom Checker - Identify Marijuana Plant Problems

I will have a look at that.

I am not using RO so I wrongly thought that Cal-mag would not be a big issue. I filter the city water with a 2 stage filter to get rid of rocks & chloramines. So now i know.

great info so far from everyone, love this journal. have you or anyone here ever used hydrated lime instead of calmag ? wouldnt it be much more cost effective ? a 6kg bag here is only like $16, and you use only about a tsp per gallon so it would last quite some time.

No, I haven't. I did try vinegar rather than pH down in my test run. I found that you have to use a lot, which raised the ppm & it didn't seem to stay as stable as the phosphoric acid.

Good to hear they turned the corner for you. .

Yes, it is. :thanks:

Maybe i missed it but i was curious on what nutrient line and supplements you were using ?

Water: Humic acid (powdered) - a freebie from my hydro store
Roots: Canazym
Nutes: Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect Trio: Micro, Grow, Bloom
Cal-Mag: CalMag+ General Organics

I am following the modified version of the 1-2-3 Nute Schedule from: Nutrient Recipes, Formulas, Guidelines, Implementations and Thoughts

I should point out that the modified version of 1-2-3 is detailed in the Editorial Comments in that post.

Great thanks I mostly wanted to know what brand nutes you were using. I wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts on them at the end. I hear good things about the AN line so your first hand experience would be great into to me.

I used to use that version of Calmag. I loved it. The only reason I stopped was I wanted a clear res. It works really well though.

I'm gonna use regular tap water with chlorine removed, if ppm is over 150-200 there's probably enough cal in the water and I'll use hydrated lime if needed. The plants use more mag then cal so I'm gonna be using Epsom salts for that.

Now that the nutes aren't blocked, they seem to be doing the job. I will post pics later.

The humic acid is black & the CalMag+ is as well (maybe humic acid in it?). So I don't have a clear rez.

That is what I am doing. Just know that most municipalities are using chloramines now & they stay in solution even after sitting out for 24 hours. They must be filtered. And the filtering seems to have reduced the calcium despite a final filtered ppm of 230. I thought more ca would be left which is why I didn't add cal-mag to start. And that led to nute lock because of ca deficiency. Lesson learned.

Day 10

day10b1.jpg

day10i.jpg

(the variegation on the Ice cotyledon is a suspected water burn when she was an infant)

The cousins are looking much plumper this morning. Nutes were started less than 24 hours ago but they must have been hungry. Both have roots that are easily hitting the water which is riding about 1 ¼" below the net pot bottom. Temps, EC, PPMs are all stable — no real change yet so they are just sipping. Minor fluctuation on pH which rose to 6.3 from 6.1. I will adjust down slightly and allow it to rise slowly to use the nutes over a pH range as many suggest.

You may have noted that aside from the AN trio, I decided to add 2 additives to the water. The Canazym is for root health - in the absence of HydroGuard - which is hard to find up here. It seems only online vendors have it through grey market sources for some reason.

The Super Hu-Max proves the power of free samples. My hydro store gave me a 20g jar of this house brand a month ago. It is powdered humic acid and it is a key component of soil. A black crystalline powder or liquid it aids in nute uptake. AN's Grandma Enggy, General Hydroponics' Diamond Nectar and Diamond Black are all humic acid additives. The net told me that it was very beneficial so I figured: Why not?

Ian
Golden Nectar wasn't a very positive experience. With other humic/Fulvic acid additives the plants show results pretty quick if they haven't seen it yet. I really like Fulpower from Bioag. Apparently Fulvic acid and humic acid are so closely related that the state of California sees them as the same thing. So i heard I'm presenty using Fulvex from Botanicare... not completely sure how to feel about it yet, but it seems ok.

I don't use too much organic stuff. Its kind of playing with fire in a DWC. This is one of the reasons I never used Black Diamond.

Re: Bomb Seeds Detonation Time! - 420 Magazine Sponsor Grow & Review - Indoor UDWC L

The humic acid is black & the CalMag+ is as well (maybe humic acid in it?). So I don't have a clear rez.

Ian
If you go with a liquid humic its usually clear gold. I recommend the stuff. It's cheap, and makes everything a little easier in my book. I'm trying to streamline my additives. But I think Fulvic/humic acid will stay in the rotation.

If you were to make you res. clear, there are a ton of clear calmags out there also. I'd say most are transparent.

When I started I was using your calmg, both Subculture (powder) additives from GH, and Floralicious. All thick and heavy opaque additives. It all worked, but I wanted those bad ass white roots you see on YouTube.

Yes I should have stated chloramines as well. instead of filtering though just do the same as wine makers do and use campden tablets, 1 tablet is good for 20 gal of water and it removes both and you don't filter anything else out.
