Since we have a cold front lingering here, the humidity has dropped in the house. I am double wet-toweling-with-water-pan just to keep it at 40% rh. Maybe Santa will bring me a humidifier. And a rosin press. Dry sieve screens. Dry ice bags. My list is growing . . .

Late Saturday night, I remembered that I had a table top cool air humidifier squirreled away in our crawl space storage area. A leftover from Shennie, our hated ditch pig ex-daughter-in-law from Beijing. Yeah, there's a long bizarre story there that took us on an adventure to attend the wedding in the middle of non-touristed China more than 10 years ago. It involved 5 hour drives through frozen fields and polluted towns, government dignitaries, panicked newlyweds, Xi'an warriors, a snowy Great Wall, black Audis and the threat of calling out the Red army.

Anyways, I can now address my low humidity. Being a strange Chinese make, it seems to like 82% or 62% when i fiddle with the controls. I will let it rest around 62% with a tent temperature of 77 with the exhaust fan on low. Water temp is a steady 70 — 71 degrees. EC and PPMs rising slightly as the water drops.

All is well.

You've piqued my interest lol your back story sounds crazy XD sounds stressful too so I won't ask you to recall it but an interesting tid bit .

Yes, they are both looking like they are very hardy strains. When I checked tonight, they both have 10" roots!

And I will admit that the MacGyver in me appeared again yesterday. The humidifier was not working well in the tent - it added heat and the humidity was erratic. The final straw happened when I put the jug in incorrectly and it leaked in my tent for the next several hours unnoticed. So I scrounged around and found an old vacuum cleaner hose. With only a little bit of personal blood loss, I attached it to the humidifier (now safely outside the tent) and ran the hose inside to test it. And it worked like a charm with a constant tent temp of 77 or so and 55 - 61% humidity.

Now I have to make it look pretty and put some sort of sump in the line (which filled with water eventually of course).

It only looks like it. This humidifier is cursed. Since it came from Shennie - the Chinese princess who lived with us for 17 long, long, long months - anything is possible. She probably bought it in a hutong for $3. Every once in awhile it will lock up & not spew. Maybe an airlock. I was going to plumb it with ABS but I will run it for a few more days before I commit.
