Bluter's Happy Home For Hilarious Hempsters

They're really starting to stack bluter, looking good!

they're not quite running the way i like.
they're very wide open, and i normally go in to flower with more leaf structure, even on sativas.

Remember, once you back off the MC, you're losing the N. That might make the yellowing worse!

i've been adding a little extra calmag which should keep n up. i'm probably going another half gram. i'll literally be at the ceiling. i'm running the BE about max too.

decisions made....
maybe all bad ideas

six beans to start
3 NL
2 LSD
1 Tangie

max i can swing for the spaces if i go 5L buckets. overstuffed.
i want them all to pop too lol

match book scarify and wet paper towel

used ro water in a spray bottle with a little calmag.

plated them all up for the home slice incubator..

officially dropped...

home style incubator in action.

Bluter, I have a lot of catching up to do. Do you turn that volume up to 11 when sprouting? Love the nursery. Cheers

the amp with the plates combined make for a very effective and cheap heating pad.
i learned how to do it that way as a teenager.

things are building right along.

we mighta hit plateau on the nutes. they don't seem to be asking or pulling from elsewhere. it pulled from the lowers but halted about 3 - 4 days ago.

full

we expected it to go just a touch deeper. most of those fans aren't supporting a branch, so they're the first to go if the plant pulls.

it's pretty much good up top.

full

i'm thinking they are gonna go long. it's ok, i've got some auto seeds coming right behind. still a wk or more from delivery. maybe we can roll them right behind.

for now everyone is pretty happy where we're at now.

full

things are filling in nicely. they are all a bit sparse yet, but stuff is moving quicker now.

i need to get a few jars filled back up on this run.

Hey Bluter,

@Jon is going to try a hempy bucket but doing it with a 70/30 coco/perlite mix. I know the original grower "Hempy" himself switched over from perlite to coco and I was surprised that none of the hempy growers I've seen here like you and @FelipeBlu ever made the switch.

Any reason you prefer the straight perlite to the coco?

climate. if you face both hot and dry conditions adding some vermiculite or coco will help retain some moisture longer.

cost. $120 buys 3+ yrs worth of media. coco can't get near to that.

method. coco and hempy are so close, if i was to run coco i'd just get cloth bags and do a true coco grow. coco in a hard side won't do near as well as a cloth bucket.

everyone is bulking it up a bit.

we're about mid flower now moving in to the second half. the earlier pistils have turned.

full

they're still pushing a bunch of new ones all the time. although that has started to slow. we figure we have two wks to go before we're in a finish window at all. probably a month or so away from harvest.

full

they are eating like crazy. i've taken the nutes to the top of where i wanted to go. we're at 12g/8L of MC with 2.5g/8L of BE and 8ml of calmag. it works out to 5.67g/gal MC and 1.2g/gal BE with 4ml/gal of calmag. i have a theoretical 1.5 grams of room left to head up in BE, but i probably won't touch it.

we're feeding every second day and the amount of runoff indicates they are dry. there still is a fair bit of media not locked up at the top, which would suggest there is still room for roots to go if needed.

full

a couple have started pulling from the fans again. that one is doing it the hardest. we slowed it a bit when we went from feeding every third to every other day. the buckets are a bit too big to go to daily feeds, i want to ensure the dry cycle gets in. from here i'll lean in to the booster and calmag a bit harder.

the buds keep stacking decent. the main tops aren't the largest, but they are some of the nicest looking i've had. the bud itself is super dark. it's not easy to pic up in the pics with all the white and red pistils.

full

not the best lighting to pick it up in. my camera flash washes it out if i turn the light off. half my pics look too hot, the others too bright lol

the cages have been doing a good job. we put a few ties in to help support. no one is flopping over and the plants are easy to move and maintain.

the drawback is anything below the top hoop is not gonna get the chance to make much. if i ran one less plant the remaining 4 could probably each produce better in the space. overall production will be about the same though. 5 plants is the max i can run.

full

i'm not gonna whine about what we've got so far though. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Interesting. Is the dry cycle something you do routinely in hempy or is it based on what you see from this plant?

it's almost the same as in soil. i don't like to feed until i know the plant has used the majority of the res up. i shorten the length between feedings depending on plant needs. it's the same as you will see in coco.

Ah, ok. I thought waiting a few days early on was simply because there was still water in the reservoir, so no use adding more when there's some available. I guess I missed the idea of letting them dry a bit. I figured in straight perlite there was a very narrow window befoe the dryness started damaging things.

Maybe that's part of my struggles with hempy in the past. Never really letting them dry out at all to help build roots.

it depends. i never let them go more than three days no matter the development stage, or whether the res is dry.
the frequent feedings pull oxygen to the roots and keeps the ph in check. some of it will also depend on your container size, and if the hole is placed properly.

unlike soil types you can put hempy on a schedule by development and follow a 3-2-1 rule. it works for 2L to 5L buckets. the backbone of hempy grows.

feed every third day in seedling - hempy cup.
feed every third day after up pot to 2L or 5L from early through mid veg
feed every second day mid veg to second wk of flower
feed every day in flower

I've never heard that one.

it just makes it simple. i 'taught' hempy growing to a seniors group once. the smaller footprint, with no messy soil, and lack of expensive hydro equipment make it appealing to older folk on a fixed income.

Thanks mate. Pretty happy with them for a first attempt. They're half gallon approximately. 2 litre.

i thought they were paint cans and assumed they were a gallon as that's the standard here. 2L is a great hempy size.

They're 2L paint kettles. Seem to do the job nicely. I've got 2.5L ones for my next grow. They were black on the images online but when I collected them they turned out to be white. A little annoying but I'll just have to spray them or wrap them in something I guess. Where would you recommend placing the drain holes on those? I put them approx. 2" up on the 2L ones and that gives a reservoir of about 600ml.

they'll do great. i've been placing the drain hole at 2 1/4" for every bucket size. 2 to 2 1/2" was cited everywhere and i just shot for the compromise.
