Thank you so kindly SB! I feel humbled by your comment. I'm most certainly happy it helped someone. I'm still learning myself you know.

It feels good to be fairly close to on our feet again too. Taking care of my elderly mother (she's 77 tomorrow so everyone say HAPPY BIRTHDAY) with Alzheimer's has had it's toll on me and her to say the least. But I feel like it's the right thing to do, even if I don't do it well.

I quit work to take care of her. Lost seniority with the company I was with, and 3.5 yrs later ended back with the same company (though a different casino) literally within 72 hrs of being on the street, and losing all worldly possessions.

It's even harder now since I have to be gone 8-12 hrs a day and with nobody watching her (can't afford help). But we're hanging in there.

I would have never come here to 420mag either had it not been for caring for her. I don't indulge, and haven't in 35 years, since I was a teenager. This community has taught me a lot. And continues to do so. I can only hope I am able to pass a little bit on to help someone else in the journey.


**On defoliation, I'm learning too. I'll probably start bending any day now as the need arises and as I defoliate. These girls need lots and lots of room to grow. I held them back last grow. And tons of light. I'm about to go work on the setup now since my harvest is curing and see if I can get these girls into the RDWC config I want. If I get it right, I'll do a res change today into the rdwc and my tent with the T5-HO. Then I'll be ready for flower when it's time with just a light swap and proper nutrients.

Come along for the ride on this one and we'll learn some more on defoliation!

I too had to leave my life behind to take care of mom (details omitted to protect the innocent who was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer last year. She is still fighting though, feeling good enough to work even after a year of targeted gene therapy and her third round of chemo. I hope I have as much vitality and willpower.

It's nice to see there are so many members here who are caring for their folks.

Just a thought, but the Digital Greenhouse ballast at HTG supply has had a great number of good reviews also. I did a lot of reading before I purchased mine. It is a 600 watt digital, DIMABLE, and switchable (runs HPS and MH bulbs)
It was around $230.00 complete with cord and socket, reflector and ballast, 5 year waranty(3 year full and 2 year pro rated)
I'm pleased as can be with mine, although I've only had it a month.
I would think you could go with a 1k dimable, wich the have as well. They have the 100%, 75% and 50% setting.....Or you could try the 600.
The Eye Hortilux bulbs get high praise too....
Plants look great btw!

I love the hortilux bulbs, mine popped after 2 hours of use though but had a new one the next day. I went to my hydro shop. He called them and they told him to hand me a new bulb!

Well, I'm still undecided what I'm going to do on the lighting end. I could go HPS now before it gets major hot outside here, then switch back to LED on next grow during summer months. This could give me better comparison since I'll have a better plant spread and rdwc going now and next grow with same strain.

Or I could just stick with my LED and wait till fall to do a comparison. Would save me $$ now too.

As usual, I'm all over the place on this and finding it hard to decide.

** So today I went to try to put together the RDWC setup. Then I realized of the two different types of bulkhead fittings I have, I don't have enough of either one type to do full system, so I'll have to use two types of bulkhead fittings. But I also don't have the right size hole saw for one type so I have to go deal with that tomorrow and do everything then.

I'm kinda having a hard time figuring out exact lengths for the pvc pipping too. I'll get it, I just need to fit both styles of bulkheads first I think to get it right. Trying to make the right center to center area for optimal growth, light penetration, and spacing.

My 2 1000 watt lights generally up the temp in the tent anywhere from 6 to 10 degrees from what the temp is outside the tent. Not sure if this helps you any. Hopefully it does.

Yea, you have it set up well. My problem is I can't go putting holes in wall or ceiling to exhaust.

If it were me I would keep running the LED. I am shutting down soon because of the heat and won't restart until the 2nd week of September. I run HPS in flower, generally a 400 and it makes my room which is 3x5x6 pretty hot. I recorded 93 yesterday and humidity was 67%. I am going to put a heck of a fan that came from a furnace into the room and that baby will really suck the door shut.

Hey I made a mistake I just noticed.

ONE DROP per 2 gals water! I think I had stated the guy told me 2 drops per 2g.

Keep up the good work. You're already starting out better than I did. I had to go through hot water and root rot my first grow. Made it through it, but more importantly I learned a few lessons there. Hopefully it saves you from the same troubles.

yea, I may be too late in the year already to try it (HPS). I can't help but wonder. But hey, as I'm working on my recirc 4 bucket setup as we speak, maybe this will eliminate some of the crowding/shading issues from last grow.

I'm presently waiting on some pvc cement to cure, then a water test. If all goes well I'll move the plants with fresh nutes to about 1000ppm (.5 conv) or so into the tent under good recirc and the chiller plugged in. My replacement LED from GrowStealthLED should arrive Weds, so I'll just hang the T5 HO in tent for a day or so till it arrives.

I'm probably 1 or 2 weeks from going to flower. Kinda undecided. I know I wont harvest by the date I hoped for, but that's because last grow went 2-3 weeks longer than I hoped.

If I finish it all up with no leaks and not too tired I'll take pics and update later.

oh yes. Pain in the ass just barely leaking bastards. All the pvc is glued now too, so it's and even bigger pain. I'm tempted to do a Magyver fat ass silicone bead around the joints/sealing washers. Pretty cheasy, but probably flawless. Waiting for everything to dry out before I decide. It's a bit tougher for me too. Years ago I decided to grab a knife that was headed for my throat. Cut tendons in my fingers rather than my neck. But my grip is for shit now and this is one of those things that needs a good grip to seal.

Damn dude thats rough! Sorry your running into such issues. Probably the route I'd go though. Silicone is a wunnerful thing!

It really isnt a big deal. It's DIY RDWC. Thats why we mock shit up and test run it. find problems before they are problems. Just inconvenient.

Ouch, better your hand then your neck I think, but that sucks. Are you still thinking of trying HPS at all, or just going with the LED at this point?
