Bassman's 6th - RDWC - Hi-Defoliation Martian & Master Kush

Re: Bassman's 6th - Blue Planet Nutrients - RDWC - Hi-Defoliation Martian & Master Ku

Hey bass looking great cant wait for some sweet pics of the harvest!

Re: Bassman's 6th - Blue Planet Nutrients - RDWC - Hi-Defoliation Martian & Master Ku

Awesome job and thanks for the update Bass, can't wait to see your results! I had a question for you (like always lol), do you supercrop through the stretch? I'm just wondering cuz I've basically been following your recipe of defoliation and supercropping on my current grow. It's my first run at hydro and the plants are doing great! After 2 defoliations thru vegge these plants are releafing beasts lol!! They're 10 days into 12/12 and they're ~12" tall by about 22'-24" wide. Anyway, they're really starting to take off vertically now and was just curious if you tame this vertical growth during the stretch period with supercropping or do you just let them go? Thanks again Bass, and I understand if you can't answer right away, I know you've been busy...

I believe Bassman uses the first flowering defol as a way to arrest the stretch and help even out the canopy. In other words, if you have one or two plants that are stretching much more than the others, you can defol them, and they will stop stretching allowing the others to catch up a bit.

I'm not 100%sure if he continues to supercrop during stretch, but I think he said he will bend them for the first couple weeks of flowering.

12" tall by 22" wide sounds nice. Got pics?

Re: Bassman's 6th - Blue Planet Nutrients - RDWC - Hi-Defoliation Martian & Master Ku

Thanks for the response Hiker! I know I've read that he defoliates in vegge to slow down a plant that's growing faster than the rest, but wasn't sure about in flower. I thought he always waited until after the stretch (day 21 of flower) to defoliate again, which starts the process of getting more light to bud sights instead of controlling height and node spacing, at least that's how I've understood it. With these girls I have now there hasn't been a whole lot of vertical growth until now, so I'd like to continue bending when I have to but since they're flowering now I'm not sure if I should. Here's a couple pics:

The two on the right are the ones I'm referring to (sorry about the pic, my camera sucks under those lights)

Hey Danner. The plant look great. I would keep bending them for awhile. You can bend for at least the first couple weeks. If the stretch is getting to be too much, you can defoliate before the 21 day mark. I'm pretty sure Bassman said he defols during stretch to keep the canopy height even too.

Sorry for arriving so late - but count me in - I'm subbed !!

Cant wait to see what monsters you turn these into !!

Edit - must have been some good stuff i smoked tonight - just realised this isnt your kosher kush journal lol !

Re: Bassman's 6th - Blue Planet Nutrients - RDWC - Hi-Defoliation Martian & Master Ku

I still have pics to upload of the harvest. Was pretty shitty yield tbh. two mistakes, biggest being the two different strains and the insane height difference. Other being the light positioning. oh well. Kosher Kush grow started flip a few days ago. I'll do a journal on that maybe tomorrow.

So it's 4/20 today. Anyone notice the sales are kinda trashy this year? Seems like it to me. But tbh I don't really need any seed. I think (I hope) I'm in great position to keep Kosher Kush, Holy Grail Kush (just started), and Master Kush going full time in rotation.

Just thought I'd throw this out to anyone that's afraid of the N. Korea threats too. Be forewarned of their Air Force: https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/44810_449532628465641_1530987123_n.jpg

Have a great 4/20 all!

Happy 4/20 bass!

Re: Bassman's 6th - Blue Planet Nutrients - RDWC - Hi-Defoliation Martian & Master Ku

Finally have some time today to get to the results.

Everything is all cut and dry. I didn't weigh but my guesstimate based on avg per curing jar is around 16-18oz. But I also have an insane amount of trim and bud that wasnt worth trimming. Easily filled 6 one gallon freezer bags. All good stuff to treat mom with her Bhang drink.

Really super unhappy with the end results, but I can only blame myself after adding the Martian Kush in with the Master Kush seeds. It was a bad choice and costly to the entire grow because of the Martian Kush growth characteristics. I could probably make Martian work but to me it's not worth my time to learn it.

I even scrapped the five 2L hempy girls I had going as a fill in.

The quality of smoke for the Martian Kush, according to two friends I had try it both say it's ok. Like good mids, but not great.

The report on the Master Kush was excellent quality, and the best I've grown yet of the Master Kush! Good news on that at least! But I've grown it a bit now and know what to expect for the most part.

Now for lessons learned:

1. Move my hood off center! With a big ass raptor hood and a 1k watt hps, if the light is centered, I'm actually putting plants "behind" the bulb's area of light penetration. When looking up into the hood the receptacle is a good foot deeper into the hood and the bulb doesnt produce any light for 2-3 inches from that. As a result that side of the tent is getting tons less direct light and living off a lot of reflective less penetrative light. FIXED!

2. Don't run my 685 watts of LED in the same room the tent is in! I threw 7 two liter hempy girls into flower about half way through the flowering period of this grow in a closet under my 685w LED. I had some fans to move air around but the heat was insane and as a result the tent saw temps as high as 92f. Once I harvested the tent and moved my Kosher Kush in, I scrapped the 2 L hempy's (all but 2 of Master Kush) and turned off the led. Tent temps went back down to 81-82f max. Perfect for my Kosher Kush. I just don't have a way to keep the temps down with the LED going in the same room.

3. I already knew this, but dont mix strains I am not familiar with or have great confidence in having similar growth characteristics! The tude does mention the Martian Kush stretches a lot. But I didn't expect over 3x and it really hurt the Master Kush yield.

I mentioned early on the Martian's were foxtailing like hell. There's some good solid bud there but that which didnt get perfect light foxtailed skinny ass bud. Pics below of a cpl dried bud show the worst of it.

All of these lessons learned also help to make a good case for why defoliation works well. Areas of great light resulted in great bud. Not shading out one plant through another is even more important than the leaves shading each other out. I lost out on a ton of light penetration this grow and made it worse with high temps slowing the shit out of them too.

Here's some pics from harvest day.
