Bard's Second Grow: Outdoor, In-Ground, Dr. Seeds Fast Genetics

Awesome, not trying to hijack your journal, really love your process! Doing things for the first time is always exciting!!

I hear you - always something new to learn. No hijack at all - was a cool idea.

Sounds like a great idea - an Ontario outdoor group grope! :)

@MrSauga, cool idea about the 2x autos. I think that I am going to stick with "fast" photoperiods, but start the seeds indoors a bit earlier than I did this spring.

@Opar - yes, there are several Ontario growers that I know of, and probably a lot more that I haven't had the chance to meet yet. Off the top of my head, @Dutchman1990, @SQl2kGuy @Kingjoe83 @Homer Simpson and of course @MrSauga.

By the way, @Opar we have a comparative grow going on right now (indoors mostly, all based on Chemdog strains). Link to it is in my signature, if you would like to stop by to say hi.

It's a date for next spring!

I agree ... sounds like a great idea!!!

@Opar , @The Bard , @MrSauga ... let's start discussing a new thread called something like "Outdoor Ontario Grown Frost Rail Club 2020" ... or "Outdoor Ontario Grown Trichome Farmers Club 2020" ...

Maybe play on the "Ontario Grown" as OG ... which originally meant "Ocean Grown" ... "Outdoor OG Frost Rail Club 2020" ...

Maybe we can decide on a theme like ... "breeding a new Ontario strain" ... or maybe a "kush" theme because of OG Kush ... or a "comparative grow" ... maybe there is an "Ontario" strain already ...

Maybe do some Sponsored grows from Dr. Seeds ... True North Seed Bank ... ?

We can meet on 420 ... share samples ... etc ...

Maybe open it up to Canada ... not just Ontario ...

There is also another thread I saw about Ontario we can pull people from ...

I need to find @Old Salt 's notes on timing for the dual Canadian harvest ... I know I bookmarked it ...

Sure ... just shoot out ideas or PM somewhere?

So I guess you aren't interested? Just kidding - love the enthusiasm! :)

Nope no interest ... that's it for me ... not enthuiastic at all about getting 5 times the yield outdoors next year ... or trying to find a cool strain for Ontario ... :)

OMG ... British Columbia is kicking our butts in terms of popular strains ... let's hurry ... you can PM me ... or text ... 705-500-LMAO :)

I would love to join in on the outdoor fun but my license details that my grow remains inside. So for now I’m an indoor only grower! I’ll definitely tag along and see how the progress goes though!!

Sounds good Dutch. It is a long way off, so no worries. Hope you are doing well.

They wanted me to join The Ontario Forestry assoc. - this sounds like a lot more fun !!! Count me in!!!!
Hey Bard - I think our gals are pretty close to the same stage - what kind of timeline are you thinking??? One frost then cut?? Waddaya think??

Hey Green!

We'd be happy to have you join our version of the recreational forestry association - coming to a garden near you next spring. :)

I've got to take my loupe outside to check trichs. I'm thinking I'll do that on Sunday and maybe take a small sample (about the size of a pencil eraser) to check under the microscope. No night temps below 50F for the next 10 days so I have time, and I think they will need it. I'm going to look for all cloudy with a touch of amber on the C99s, and about 25% amber on the CMs.

I am guessing I will need to take part of each plant gradually, and leave what is left to ripen some more, until I run out of nice weather, or they are all taken down, whichever comes first.

How about you - what are your harvest plans and timing?

Hey Bard - I thought I had seen some amber but I just got my new 60x loupe with LED and I think I'm seeing mostly clear. Not practiced up much yet. I took one branch off Angie because I had picked off a few spots of bud rot so I finally decided not to risk anything and just take the branch, give it a good wash and hang it up to dry. See how it is, see if I lose much potency. I have two in the greenhouse, so I'm not worried about them and the others are now being tarped in each nite, so I think they will be OK as well - the forest dwellers look horrible so I'm just letting them go to see how bad they can get!!!
I'm hoping I can start cutting in a couple of weeks - weather looks good for the next little while.

Yup! Sounds like we are dealing with similar conditions and harvest timing. I am curious to see these gals under the 'scope! I'll post pictures here when I do. Thanks!

I have been taking a small sample to check my trichs for a while now and I find it much simpler to look at them on a table with a light on it than flopping in the breeze on the plant. And I toss the sample in a curing jar with other buds when I am done checking it so it doesn't go to waste.

The sun feels strong today... I can practically hear your buds fattening up from here @The Bard !!

It is a gorgeous day! We've had a really nice week weather-wise. Next week looks good too, just one day of rain in forecast, and nice temps.

Another nice day today, but rain is coming later this afternoon.

I was able to take the loupe out to take a look at the girls. The C99s are farther along, but still all clear. I'm guessing two weeks to go. The CM are further behind, by quite a bit. At least two, maybe three weeks to go for them. Wasn't even worth taking a sample to examine under the microscope - they are that far off.

Going to be a nail-biter to the finish line, but lowest temperature in the 10-day forecast is 51F, so at least that is promising.

I'm seeing a bit of cloudyness on some - I have pulled a branch from Angie already but I'm thinking I may take a small sample and hang it to dry on a weekly or bi weekly basis just so I can see if there is much difference in potency etc. and see if I notice an excited buzz vs couch lock.

It is a fun time when harvest is approaching! I'll be interested to hear how the effect changes for you as the trichs ripen.

Hey everyone,

Hope your weekend is going well!

Well, one of the four outdoor girls is down. I gave the axe to one of the Critical Mass plants today. It is DAY 164 from germination, DAY 115 since getting transplanted into the ground outdoors, and DAY 64 from first pistils. So about 9 weeks in flower. The one I harvested is definitely the under-performer of the group. Not her fault - she was at the end of the row, and got the least amount of sunlight because of shadows from the deck stairs. Next year I will shift the whole row down a couple of feet to address that problem.

Interestingly, even thought she was the smallest, her trichs were the farthest along. The buds were very fluffy and airy, not hard and dense, so it was a bit disappointing. However, lots of good frosting on the buds and sugar leaves. Her sister - the other Critical Mass - will come down in the not too distant future.

I think since the buds aren't great in terms of density, I will use this entire harvest to make CCO. All the material is in the fridge to start the drying process. I probably won't cure, just go straight to extraction once it is dry enough.

Here are some pictures:

Trichs: mostly cloudy with a nice bit of amber, which is what I wanted from this strain.

Tomorrow is supposed to be much nicer (today is very chilly and cloudy out), and so I'll check out the one remaining Critical Mass, as well as the two C99s to get a sense of how much longer they need to go. No frost in forecast for at least the next 10 days, so that is a good thing.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, everyone!

The buds were very fluffy and airy
Hey Bard - I have noticed the same thing with mine - don't know the origins of these seeds so didn't know what to expect. Of course, I've never grown before - so really didn't know what to expect!!
