Babygirl’s Sour Livers DWC Hydro Grow Journal, November 2021

Well, they’re not in dirt, but they’re in a water in a light-tight environment!
I’m a dirty girl from waaaaaaaay back….

There’s not much I can’t strike in dirt.

I don’t like the look of those exposed roots. Gives me the heebie jeebies tbh. I look forward to watching a water grow from start to finish tho.

So this morning (24 hours after a 15 hour soak), 2/5 seeds (the two at the top) have the TEENIEST bit of a tail showing. For now, everyone’s going to stay all nestled in their paper towel beds to dream visions of bud sites to dance in their heads (well, at least until we have decent tails , and then into the rapid rooters they will go!).

Heya babygirl!
The top 2 seedlings were ready to plant at this point. It appears that they stalled when they sensed a delay. I would plant as soon as I saw this much. Keep them warm (no lower than 74F) and moist. I recommend perlite for starting seeds.

Question though - how the heck do you transfer from perlite to hydroton??

It’s very easy - you can do it two ways:

When she’s still pretty young (2 sets of true leaves), you can plug the hole in the cup (you do have a single hole about 1-1/2” above the bottom), add water until the perlite is loose and floating, grasp the stem, give her a little wiggle and tug, and she’ll slip right out. Then you can arrange the roots in the hydroton.

Or you can wait a little longer - when she has fully wrapped her roots in and around the perlite, and just slip her out of the cup. Ruffle up the roots a bit around the outside, place in hydroton.

Well THAT I can do!

So to give it a try:

Simply make a small hole (~3/8” is good) about 1-1/2” above the bottom of a solo cup.

Fill cup with (pre-rinsed) perlite.

Add water up to hole - I put cup in small container for spillage.

Put solo cup/container on seed mat set to 75F.

Scuff seed husk (a piece of sandpaper in a matchbox, for example).

Soak in water with a bit of hydrogen peroxide for 12-24 hours.

Position seed husk with pointy end up (this is the end that opens to let the radicle out) about 1/2” into warm moist perlite.

Stand back..

If you go with sliding her out of the cup - perlite and all - wait until you have to fertigate every 1-1/2 days to everyday.
Fertigate???

Sorry - it means providing fertilizer when you irrigate - so the nutrient solution that you water with
:hippy:
Oh, ok … what PPM do you suggest for seeds while they’re in the perlite/solo cup? Was thinking 200-ish?

For seeds, plain water is fine. They don’t have any way to process nutrients until they have some roots and leaves.

They’re heeeeere! Omg these things are so lightweight I think a stiff breeze could blow them away! Soooooo much nocer than my current concrete blurple block. Hubby got a KICK out of the stickers *lol*

Now … if only I had some damned seeds!!!

Set up time!!! That's exciting in itself!!

Yup - after dinner I’ma go play in my tent!

Cool- it won't be long now!
How far out are your seeds?
God only knows C … I ordered from Expert Seeds on Sunday and they said 3-4 WEEKS *facepalm* … ordered from Weed Seed Express on Monday and they're still processing payment even though it already cleared the bank *heads desk*

Like Tom Petty said, "The Waiting is the Hardest Part":cheesygrinsmiley:
Hopefully, they sail right through customs- I had an order that got
pinched, and the clock had to start over...

A few years back when I owned a Computer store we started selling E-Cigs, back when all you get were the pen type. Anyway I ordered 5k worth of product and got stuck in customs for a month... It was a pain. Mine arrived in Chicago just today, I'm assuming at customs. Like you, I'm praying they don't get delayed. Mine were from Killabeez in the UK shipped on the 29th of Oct.
