Babygirl’s Sour Livers DWC Hydro Grow Journal, November 2021

Well, since my sweet win covered the WHOLE price on those two lights (not just $100!), I decided to spend the money I was going to have to put towards them on some new seeds just in case these ones don't go anywhere. I ordered Lemon Haze autos from @Expert Seedbank and will be getting the Mimosa Lemon autos for free.
t!
Anyone have any experience with this seed bank?
No but a friend passed some mimosa my way this summer and I really enjoy it!

Ok @Krissi1982 - you broke my arm … I placed an order with @Weed Seeds Express (in addition to the ones I ordered from @Expert Seedbank ). Since none of my Double Grapes seem to be doing anything, I’ll drop whoever’s beans get here first and start a clean journal which will hopefully be featuring my new @Mars Hydro TS600’s!

Hmmm … almost 48 hors now on the towels and the top left seed does not show much growth of the tail and the top right one looks like it drew back on top of itself; no change on the other 3. Paper towels are wet, not drenched or dripping and its about 78F and 62% RH between the towels and plates.

Duds or give it more time?

Could they have dried out too much? 62% humidity seems low. I pitch directly in plugs with a humidity dome and it stays over 90% through sprouting. I set my germination temp at 74f.

BTW, congrats on the new lights.

Dunno - that 62% wasnt real accurate Im sure; the paper towels were still REALLY damp, but not dripping.

Personally, even though I kept all my seeds sealed in the fridge I think they just may be too old

Seeds can keep for up to 4 years in a cool dry place, longer in some cases. How long did you have them?

3 1/2 years now … and still no change on anything :(. And they were stored in their capped vials and then in their zip-sealed foil packs

Yeah that is kinda on the edge, Do you have more? You may want to try the peroxide soak method on them. It works for new seeds but, have heard it can work for older seeds too. Did you notice a musty smell when you opened them? I found some I had stashed years (over 20) and they had that musty smell. I didn't keep them in the best conditions. At the time I stashed them I didn't know what I know now. Any way I was looking up ways to sprout them and the peroxide method came up.

I ordered fresh seeds; waiting for thwm and my new Mars Hydro 600’s to get here. I’ll probably try the peroxide method for the new seeds (gotta read up on that).

Nope, no musty smell at all from the fridge seeds … oh well, que sara sara.

To be honest, for me with ALL plants going from seed to strong seedling is always the hardest part - its just not a stage I’m good with.

I'm telling you...

12-14 hour max soak next time, paper plate and towel spray down with water cover and stick in a cabinet. Don't touch them for 12 hours then check on them..spray every 12 hours until germ. You got this when these seeds come!!

BTW I forget who but someone on here had 20 year old seeds that were kept in a vinyl record that popped....

Yes I read that, Very Cool read but, the issue with mine were musty mold. It kills seeds of any kind. After posting I decided to see if I still had them and I did. LOL I just dropped some in a peroxide mix to see if any pop.

Will do... not expecting any to pop but, why not try not loosing anything by trying. There are many methods it is just one. I used a paper towel for years and still think it is good method for newer seeds. It was this last grow I tried the peroxide method on new seeds and they all popped in less than 24hrs. I lost two when I put them in dirt tough. I'm thinking the mix, water to peroxide, may have been a little strong.

Maybe a 3:1 instead of 2:1 ratio?

I used a dropper and added 5 drops peroxide per 10ml of water... not sure what that ratio is. I was using very fresh seeds too and that may have played a factor.

Yeah, I’ll do the hydrogen peroxide soak first next time. I’ll read up on that more.

I soak mine for 12hrs, at that point they sink. Then they go into the rapid rooters and kept warm. I use a 3ml dropper to keep the rapid rooters moist, and a heat mat to keep the proper temperature. And a small LED light or T5 on 24/7 above them.

I try to avoid using a dome at all.

Since switching to this, I've had my best success.
Using paper towels I found the odd time the tail would snag in the paper towel, and then there's the risk of damaging it when transplanting the seed.
I also add a touch of hydroguard or Orca to the rapid rooter mixture (that i use with the 3ml dropper) to inoculate the roots right away.

The worst I get is Helmut heads, and that just takes a bit of patience and tweezers to fix.

Everyone has their own methods, it's about finding what gives you repeatable success.

Hey @Rexer ! Thanks much! For the soak, do you use just just water or an H202 mix? If the latter, what ratio? And do you use that same solution + hydroguard for watering the rapid rooters using the 3ml dropper?

Hi Cjsbabygirl,
H202 falls into the sterile side of things. I tend to run the opposite side and use beneficial microbes and fungi wherever whenever possible.

I just keep a 1L bottle of RO with a touch of nutes and hydroguard /Orca (keep below 100PPM). Ph 5.8

Soon as roots poke out the bottom their ready for transplant. I move them quickly as I can, as I grow Autos and I found its best to get them into their buckets asap.

Rereading that reminded me, stick a few hydroton pebbles under the rapid rooters, it helps, trust me.

IntheShed recently shared his H202 soak method.
